I mean if nicotine in tobacco plants and other nightshade plants is so deadly and addictive how do they cross pollunate? Wouldnt the nicotine kill anything that tried to cross pollunate it?
Did you read the scientific paper that I quoted twice? I even put a link to it. You might check it out. Nicotine is a bitter alkaloid that is used to help cross pollunation of the plants. Nicotine doesnt kill hummingbirds so how could it kill humans? All it does is taste bitter and cause the hummingbirds to bugger off and go somewhere else.
There is no tar in cigarettes. What is called tar is actually sugar that has been burned and crystalized. That is what people who smoke are addicted to. That is what is in cigarettes that causes so much addiction. Its the sugar you inhale into your lungs when you smoke.
So let's see....if this (one reference) is true, why not make patches and gums from sugar then instead of nicotine?
And they aren't addicted? Why do they keep going back?
Ha! We were typing at the same time Css.

Yes I did read it but at that point there was no link at the time and I was writing my response as you were posting it so apologies for that.
Your dont appear to be saying the same thing now as you did in the OP however
If your point is that burning sugar in cigarettes is bad for you then I'm not going to argue with that. It's the claim that sugar is what smokers are addicted too that I have an issue with.

The reason they use nicotine in patches and gum is because that is what they have told you that you are addicted to. Its to sell patches and gum. The reason that people go back to smoking is because they sugar they were getting. If nicotine was the only thing that was addictive then people would be addicted to the gum and patches and never go back to smoking because they wouldnt have to in order to get what they are craving.
No, not necessarily. Adult humans can eat honey....but honey can be deadly for infants. Who knows what animals (birds) can digest, inhale, or whatever, that might not be harmful to us. It's called nature. Every species has its own natural tolerances.

We know they contain nicotine and sugars, but we're not popping potatoes and tomatoes in our mouths every 20 minutes, are you?Are you addicted to potatoes and tomatoes?

Walsh, Richard, 1964-The impossibility of achieving mutual knowledge -- that is to say, a fully reciprocal understanding between two minds -- is a familiar philosophical problem. For knowledge to be mutual, not only must you know what the other knows, but the other must know that you know it; accordingly, you must know that the other knows that you know it, and the other in turn must know that you know that they know that you know. As this regress recedes, the likelihood of achieving each of its levels diminishes to the infinitesimal; and still there is no point of rest at which symmetry is achieved between what each knows of the other.
You know what you know and I know what I know, let's just call it even
Then how can nicotine be addictive? In fact I can tell you exactly what is in cigarettes that is addictive I can name you the exact chemical. Its called theobromine and its the main ingredient of cocoa. Its the same stuff in chocolate that can kill a dog if they eat too much of it and its the stuff in chocolate that makes chocolate so addictive.
Is it really that absurd? Have you ever listened to commercials advertising drugs? Have you listened to the side effects of those drugs? The list of side effects of all drugs is way longer than the list of benefits. In other words there is a better chance that drugs prescribed by your doctor will harm you rather than make you well. The motive is simple. Its money. How many billions of dollars is at stake?
