Ainako, I hear you. No one likes paying a lot for a PV (myself included). However there are times when cost is justified. Sure all it they really are, are boxes (or tubes) that hold a power source. But if you look at self feeding mods (specifically bottom feed systems), there is a lot more that goes into them than you would think. You cannot buy an off the shelf bottom feed atomizer (battery) connector as of today, which means each one has to be made. This takes time and material.

I cannot speak for the Reo, but our box has quite a few handmade components, here are some of them:

1. Atomizer connectors: we use standard connectors that we modify to allow them to function as bottom feed systems (disassemble, modify and reassemble).

2. Grommets are reamed and poly coated, by hand.

3. Boxes are cut from rough stock and crafted painted/poly by us.

4. The master on/off is a custom made enclosure that has a brass contact plate attached (we make these as well)

5. Brass rails for electrical continuity, custom made for each box (cut then ground then soldering of spring and wiring).

6. The feed button is also a custom button made by hand from standard parts.

Some might wonder why we didn't just use off the shelf components, and while we would of loved to, most of what we wanted was either not available in the specs we wanted or was much too costly and would have driven the cost of each box up. So we ended up buying off the shelf items (or raw material) where applicable and then modifying them to our specs.

As you can see there is quite a bit of work (not including development, testing nor final assembly) that goes into each box. We wanted to make things modular so that each component can be repaired or replaced without major damage to the enclosure or individual components this includes both switches, brass rails, atomizer connector and feed system, we can even replace the box ends if needed, without damage to the main enclosure if needed.

I hope it isn't as expensive as the Reos box. Just saying. On another note, I think a single tone of the darkest wood would look diabetically sweet.

As for the wood, how about Mohogany, Zebra Maple, Hickory???
Woods of that type..
I use to be a Kitchen and Bath Designer with a small company here in SC and learned a lot about Hand Crafted Cabinets and Woods..
I personally would like to get one and Please put me on a list as I will gt one to celebrate that I HAVE NO MORE CS TO PAY!.
I personally like Knotted Hickory and to be just clear coated ora light cherry stain on it.. As long as it doesn't turn out red..

Stubear62,

As you probably already know some of those hardwoods have grain that compromise their strength. We actually made about 5 prototype boxes out of zebra wood and was not happy with the strength. The grain in it caused it to be not as tough as we would like and it would chip fairly easily (for a hardwood).

One of our goals is to keep the boxes pretty small, so the wood strength must be up to the task. I am sure we could do the boxes out of any wood, however the dimensions would increase to add needed strength. We will have a list up of woods that we have tested and feel are up to the task for custom box orders.

Its funny that you mentioned Hickory, because we were looking at that today as well, will keep you posted on our test results for it (10 ft drop test :D).

The boxes that we are going to offer as our standard boxes have been dropped many many times and has yet to fail. The poly coat in conjunction with the wood itself is proving to be very durable.

In the land of no hills and red dirt
<sees wife's purse on kitchen table with Kaji sitting on top>
<looks around>
<reaches towards purse>
<wife sticks head around corner, shoots me a dirty look>
(Damn it, how does she always know?)
<slowly takes hand away from purse>

I haven't received a ransom note or a list of demands yet, so I guess it's going well.
