Someone here suggested removing the silicone seal over the head next to the wicks for better flavor and wicking. I took mine out and the flavor and vapor soared. The only drawback is that once the juice gets really low, there's some gurgling that occurs, probably because air gets to the wicks when you tilt to vape once the juice level is down . Other than that, it makes a huge difference in wicking performance and flavor. I refill when the juice gets to 20% or so.

I put mine back in last night to see if my experience was just coincidental. Within 10 minutes, the wick starvation taste was back. I removed it again and flavor returned. Mine's back out now, probably for good.

I have a Kanger Protank that I've been having issues with lately in regard to taste. I'm wondering if it's the menthol liquid I have, as another user pointed out that they had an awful taste in their device (forget what it was, but it wasn't a Protank) and it was the menthol liquid they have. Unfortunately I believe both of my Protank heads are cooked, but ironically I bought an Evod from a local shop today, so I'll put that head which is working beautifully in the Evod into the Protank in the morning and do some comparison. If the Evod head is compatible with the Protank as everybody says, this just might be a solid win.

On top of that, I'm questioning the likely obvious silicone seal you speak of. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I'm curious if you could confirm the silicone seal as being this guy here in the picture?

Again, I'm 99% certain this is what you mean, but I'd rather ask and be positive instead of wonder...

Thanks for the insight!

I really want to like the Protank. When I compare it with the Vivi Nova, the VN wins out. So does a carto. I'm hoping that some after release design changes will change my mind. It also may be that with the muting of flavor I need to move to juices that just blew my head off in a carto with the irritation and heavy throat hit. Still, the coolness of the bottom coil vape turns me off somehow. Cranking the voltage just produces a burning effect on the flavor.

When I hear people talking about vaping 2.5 ohm coils at 5v and higher I have to wonder if they have a different expectation of flavor and throat hit than I. Every atomizer I've cranked turns from flavor to hot and burning when I crank above 4.2v. That may be just typical of 100% PG and that's what I vape daily.

Protanks work great but do not have the capability of placing a drip tip on them. I like to have different tips on all my tanks so I can easily tell them apart. My Protanks look like an army of clones, and it's easy to mix them up. Also, they don't produce as warm a vape as the ViviNovas. Plus, they cost more. They are both equally easy to rebuild. On the other hand, Protanks are glass and do not give the occasional "dry hit" like Vivis do if you don't religiously "roll" them to keep the wicks soaked. So, in the end it's a win lose situation for both. It just depends on what YOU want from your tank. I have many of both and have learned to live/work with their strengths and weaknesses.

I have been using vivi novas for a long time. I just bought a protank at an area B&M shop yesterday. I am not very impressed. I have read the vape is airy and cool, which it is. But its very airy and very cool. So cool I can't even feel the vapor in my mouth. Another downside to the protank its loud on my vamo. It sounds like a tea kettle when I vape (not as loud as one, just same sound). My viva nova do not make a sound at all. I have ordered evod heads to try as I read this will help with airy vape, and someone had mentioned using teflon tape (which I need more instruction on it anyone out there has done this). Maybe then I could like the protank. I wish they would just make a pyrex vivi nova already!

Have tried vivi nova's, regular and mini, and kanger protank, T3's and Evods. Prefer Evod above all else. New T3's are changing to an Evod like bottom coil where only the head is replaced and less expensive. I have half a dozen or more of each type and frequently search for the best vape. I also use carto's, carto tanks, atomizers, etc. Over time, the flavors, vapor, etc. all degrade until the coils/heads are replaced. Evod gives me the best combination of draw and flavor of all the products you have mentioned. Maybe the new T3's will do the same and save refilling time(s). My 2 cents...

I haven't used my ProTank enough to have a solid opinion on it, but part of the reason for that is because I don't like the weight of it. I'm kind of surprised I've never heard anyone else mention that. I think I need to make a concerted effort to use it to develop a better opinion.

I have the original version of the ViVi Nova still going strong and operating flawlessly and leak free for over a year now. Personally I like the ritual of tipping it back to wet the coils between every few drags.

I do agree with others that it's hard to compare these two clearos as they are so different. Do yourself a favor and get one of each. (and an E-vod while you're at it!)

I just got my first ProTank, and I like it. I haven't used it enough to determine if it will move the VN out of the #1 position for me, but I doubt it for three reasons:

1. As orson said, it's heavy. When I'm on the go, a VN mini on top of a Twist is light, small and very pocketable. The ProTank on top of the Provari is really heavy.

2. It is much louder than the VN. The tea kettle sound alcari described is right on. I don't care when I'm home, but I'd rather have a quiet vape when others are around.

3. The fixed metal drip tip. I don't use fancy drip tips, but I prefer plastic to metal.

It is good looking, though, and vapes really well. I don't find it to be too airy at all, and mine is bone stock.

I have tried the Vivi Nova Mini, but I didn't like it that much and I fried it when I tried to wash it out to change flavors. I got the protank last week and LOVED it the few days I had it. Then the bottom 510 threading broke off and no it won't make contact with any of my batteries. I have searched high and low for a replacement base, but no one can keep them in stock because of this problem. discountvapers.com had them for 10 minutes last night. lol. He says he should be getting more tomorrow. I don't want to have to buy a whole new tank. I say that the protank is the best, and I find that I really like bottom coils, but just be wary of the base.

My trial and assessment of the Protank is beginning to be a little more positive. I've found that with a new 2.5 ohm head and some Dekang RY4 juice the flavor is good at 4v. The first head went a little South after a few days in spite of a couple of washes and dry burns. This head is producing thick clouds of vapor with 100% PG RY4 and the flavor is great. I'm even sensing a hint of warmth from the vapor at that level.

I think my first impression was tainted by the massive one piece stainless drip tip. That thing is so huge that its mass makes it stay cold even with vapor warmth passing through it. It's a little difficult for a plastic tip user to take. I occasionally use SS drip tips on my other tanks and cartos and don't sense the cold feel from the smaller mass.

That said, I'm liking it more. A SmokTek carto even seems to have a hard pull after vaping the Protank. It's what you become accustomed to sometimes.

Still, Vivi Nova is tied for number one with the SmokTek carto. The Protank is gaining and is running a wide second at this point, but a good vape in spite of all its idiosyncrasies.
