I've read about using #6 machine screw to build the coil. Seems like a good idea. But will that method work for the Kanger PT2? And what size silica wick would you slide into the coil? I've seen videos of ppl using 3mm. And if I used 3mm wick, would I still need a top wick or two of same 3mm wick on top of the coil?

I don't bother with wrapping my coils around anything besides my wick, unless I am going to throw some cotton in it. To answer your question though, the minor diameter of #6 screw threads is about .098, and it would definitely work. You would have some issues getting 3 mm silica through there cleanly though as 3 mm = .118" Silica is pliable, but you would probably end up with a mess. I usually keep my wick diameter at 1.5 mm. That has been working great in all of my Protank heads. And, no, if you were to go with 3mm, the "flavor" wicks would not be necessary.

I"ve done just fine with using a small ss wire to hold the wick while I wrap it. I use premade wire with no/low resistance ends so the rubber piece does not burn on the bottom. I do what ever wrap uses up the resistance part of it. This premade wire costs like 3-5 dollars for 50. They come in 3 resistance levels. I got it at Discount vapors.

I use 2 mm ecowool for my PT coils, and 32 ga kanthal wire. Cut about an inch of ecowool (its a braided tube-like silica robe), and stick a thick sewing needle through the center of the tube, lengthwise. Then wrap the coil and seat it in the coil cup, attach the grommet and pin correctly, trim wires, remove the needle, and test the ohms. I generally use an extra 2 mm regular silica wick on top of it ("flavor" wick). This cuts down the overly generous airflow usual to the PT, and also helps insulate the coil from the air-post. I get 2.3-2.5 ohms with 6 wraps. The sweing pin keeps it stiff for wrapping, and also allows the wick to not be choked inside the coil. Works really really well for me.
