I use AW IMR 18350 700mAh (Touchwood & GG Stealth) and AW IMR 18650 2000mAH (ProVari & VMOD XL) 1000mAh eGo's
The Darwin is a "Black Box" mystery. Battery life on Mods I take out is usually an all day affair, rarely will I change a battery but I tote one around just in case. I will not be taking the Katana out and about so battery life is not even a minor thought for me. In fact I do not take anything out with the exception of the VMOD and eGo, I view them as disposable so they get abused :)

Blu, disguise your Blow Torch as a kitchen accessory

For batteries do most of you run 18650s? The other option is 18350s?
What is the battery life like? .... I chain vape and my GLV CR123s don't last very long.

Go with he 18650 then. The 18350 does give a great vape, don't get me wrong, but the 18650 will easily last through an entire tank (and about 3/4 of a second one), the 18350 will typically not get through an entire tank of juice. Of course I am talking AW IMR for both batteries so there may be differences with other batteries. I have only ever used AW's.

In the 18650 size, the imr is totally unnecessary. The away icr 3100 are double the capacity and still more than sufficient c rating for any coil you come up with.
I guess I need to learn much more about batteries..............
Vendor A says "we recommend ONLY AW IMR ....bla bla bla for use in the ......."
Vendor B says "we recommend ONLY AW IMR ....bla bla bla for use in the ......."
etc.....
POC recommends certain mAh type batteries..........

I purchased higher mAh AW IMR's from the lighthound store thinking that the higher mAh would last longer... and also keep with vendor recommendation........

so what's the real scoop when it comes to choosing the proper battery for the Katana and Katana mini:confused:

The AW 2900 MAH protected cells fit nicely in the 18650 tube, the 18650 AW IMR will fit but needs a spacer magnet to work properly. In the short tube the AW IMR 18350 works perfectly. I have not tried any other batteries in mine to verify if they work or not though :)

I thought these worked with a 18650? Where would one get a magnet spacer?

got it. Although I read that they will fit 18650 so I think it might be fine without it.

The AW 2900 MAH protected battery is an 18650 battery, it has a protection circuit inside. The magnetic spacers that I use are found at VaporKings.com. Here's the link.

One 5/16" x 1/32" neodymium disc magnet

In case anyone is wondering... I am not affiliated with the maker of the katana or vapor kings or any of the other vendors I mention for where I get items from. These are just the vendors I use to buy items from. I typically only share items that I have used myself so I know they work well for me and I feel confident recommending them to others. I post a number of things and where to get them and don't want the moderators to think I have any motives other than to help my fellow vapers here on ECF. :) I try to not post links for items I have not purchased or for vendors that I have not purchased from to avoid people possibly ordering things and not getting what they paid for or not getting what they were expecting. I am only mentioning this because I was looking back at posts and realized how many things I recommended to people and so I felt I should make my intentions clear on these things.

In short, if I own an item and someone asks about it, I give my honest opinion about it and if asked where it can be purchased I let then know where I got it from. Hopefully if others take my advice on things that I enjoy, they will be at least as happy with their purchases as I have been :)

is that battery considered as safe as the aw imr?

I think that really depends on the camp you are in. Some people have complete faith in the $2 circuit that is attached to the battery being a reliable failsafe. I personally think the IMR is safer because it is a safe chemistry battery, not a LiIon battery with an overload protection circuit attached that could fail under a number of circumstances. I used the AW 2900 MAH protected batteries for a while and never had anything go wrong with them, but I feel safer with the IMR than with the protected cell because as we all know there is an inherent failure rate with any electronic device and that would include a protection circuit.

In my Katana, I use ONLY AW IMR the 18650 with a magnetic spacer in the long tube and the 18350 with the shorter tube. Same thing in my Hybrid Mini, Provari and SSGGTS. In my GLV3 mini I use AW rcr-123 protected's because that is what came with it when I purchased it from Great Lakes Vapor. With all the Genisis mods I own, the GLV is only used when I know the going may get really rough because even though it uses chinese attys, it is tough as nails and I won't get as upset if it gets dinged up like I would if one of my other mods got damaged :)
