Hi all. Just setup my first kayfun lite + (2nd batch). I used 28 guage with 9 loops. Came out to 2.0 ohms. The question I have is what does the diameter of the coil have to do with vape quality? The reason ask is I have no idea the size drill bit I used when wrapping but it looked somewhat large. Not really sure though. No burnt hits and no leaking so I guess it was fine. Just wondering.

Thanks guys/gals

What KTMRider said.

I didn't have much luck with smaller (micro) coils in the Kayfun. I'd stick with what you're using.

I'd recommend grabbing a cheap set of drill bits at your local hardware store, or if they sell them in singles, grab 3/32" - 5/64" - 7/64".....
I've been using 28g wrapped 6 times on a 7/64" bit, which comes out to 1.4-1.5 ohms every single time. I run that at 10 watts, and it's awesome.
That's where my Kayfun really seems to shine.

I'm similar to HB. Mine are 5/64ths, 10-wrap, 28 ga, 1.5ohms. You can also get a microdriver set and wrap coils around the shafts. They have diameters that cover the range you would need and they double as screwdrivers you can use on your Kayfun for building and refilling. You can probably pick one up at your Lowes or HD. Get the ones that show the shaft diameters. You want 2.0mm 2.4 mm etc...

Day 2: and the leaks begin. I was hoping I'd get lucky and not have any leaking issues, but not so much. After some period of time it starts to slowly leak from the bottom air hole. When I screw down the top cap and look inside it looks like that top o-ring is getting pinched on one side. Hopefully just a bad o-ring and I can pick one up from somewhere. Maybe a local hobby shop? Maybe I'll look online for a "replacement kit" for it (with o-rings, screws and center pin). Any suggestions?

If it's not a bad Oring, it might be this: one time I dropped my mod and KFL with it. This resulted in a leak from the side. What had happened was the jolt made the connection get cross threaded (not sure of wording). I disassembled, inspected Orings, lubricated Orings and reassembled. One time I also had a light leak because I didn't have the chimneys tight enough (not forced with great strength just finger tightened). All my issues have been user error...

Let us know what you discover. This thread and the preceeding one has been invaluable

I'm definitely sure it's user error :) The o-ring itself looks fine but it pinches on one side when the top is screwed on. What did you lubricate the o-rings with? I may give that a try. I've also read that I can use the rubber caps from the Kanger coils in place of the top o-ring but I'm not sure how well that would work. Im very thankful for this thread and hope to stop the leak soon. Right now it's not leaking. I did a complete rebuild of the coils and wick and refilled it.

One of the lessons that got drilled in my head from the Forum is to lubricate orings with a tad of Vaseline or E-liquid. (I use e because it is handy). Helps keep them "youthful." The other lesson is of course to have a back-up for your back-up.

Hmmm...bulging oring. Haven't experienced that. Did it come that way? I know that one cause could be over-tightening or perhaps it is just bulging because it came bad. Sorry, but I don't know about Kanger orings....

Did you get a Tobeco? Maybe someone who has one might be able to shed more light.

Yeah it came that way. I'm just tightening the top down all the way. Should I not tighten it that much? What should I have as a backup? A complete backup KFL or the o-rings/replacement parts? I also learned something important today. After building the coil and dry firing it don't reach over the top to unscrew it. That coil is REALLY hot a few seconds after dry firing it. Burned my finger!

I didn't get the Tobeco but I've heard good things about it. I figured I would start on the cheap with the KFL from FT ($15).

I use mineral oil on the large diameter threads/orings. Base, tank segments, top cap, drip tip. Not the internal threads/o-rings on chimney or tin man hat. A light film applied with a q-tip.
I'll give that a try. I have some mineral oil somewhere that I use for coating my wooden cutting board (cooking, etc).

Thanks!

Sorry for the delay to your response. Yes, it's always good to have some extra parts. Having a back-up just means that you ought to have a second PV and a second atomizer (doesn't matter what kind. We just don't want to be stuck without it in the event we have to fiddle with something or we have a malfunction. Store selling smokes are on every corner but Vape shops are more rare).

I'm not familiar with the KFL from FT. Does the oring look bulgy (mishappen) when it's not being tightened down? If so it might need to be replacing.

I just want to say thanks to everyone that has helped me.

On the evening on 01/22 I had one lonely cancer stick sitting inside it’s pack. For whatever reason I had an urge to smoke, not vape, but smoke. So I took this lonely vehicle for pure evil and sparked it. I did not know cigarettes tasted like..... well you know... horrible, to keep it nice.

I have not smoked since, I know it is too early to tell, I did not set a date to quit or could not guarantee that I will stay off the smokes (at this time it is too early to tell), but I have not had a cigarette nor a craving for one since then! I know it may not seem like much time, but for me it is historical!

I do not want to sound like an infomercial, but the reason I am sharing this is that before buying the kayfun lite plus, as you may all know I was skeptical and little disappointed with my previous setup.

For anyone trying to quit smoking looking to move up to something better than replacement atomizer coil tanks, I highly recommend the kayfun lite plus.

Reasons: Adjustable/consistent draw

Kayfun’s are more precise in the delivery of both flavor and nicotine

Once you set it right, you can forget it until you need to refill or rebuild

Maintenance cost is cheaper than pre made coils that are or could be filled
or made with substandard materials

Superior build quality

The price is equivalent to less two cartons of cigarettes depending where you
buy yours

I might have missed other features and I will add that a lot of descriptions are subjective, but the most
important feature is that it comes with friendly support from this awesome kayfun community!

I am a marlboro red smoker and had my reservations, but this seems to have worked for me so far.

I know all of this may sound redundant to some, I am just trying to catch they eye of anyone in my shoes trying to switch to a kayfun or just replacing cigarettes with one.

Again, I would like to thank all of you for your help! I am just taking it a vape at a time...

Such a beautiful story!!!! I'm bawling!
Ok not really, but man...I am so proud of you!!!!!!!!!
As you said, there's been no official decision to drop cigarettes yet...but it sounds like you've pretty much got your other foot in the door now...
So...WELCOME TO THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!!!
Give it about a month...what a difference you'll feel!
For me:
My sense of smell returned (never knew it left). My sense of taste was amplified (never knew it muted). My clothes don't stink. My truck doesn't stink. My home doesn't stink. In fact, the only thing that stinks is...I never realized how bad I smelled!!!
Exciting things are happening for MKID!!!
Some of these old codgers may have forgotten what it was like to take that final leap, but I'll never forget the last time I tried to light up...
It had been almost two years of vaping consistently, and I had had few tee many martoonis...I asked my friend for a smoke...and damn near had an orgasm from the muscle memory of putting the cigarette in my lips, and using that trusty ol' Zippo to light it. Damn that felt good!!!
But then I took a drag...oh lawd that was the most disgusting taste I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing.
NEVER AGAIN!
Congrats MKID!!!!! May not feel like it, but that's a big step!

Great story MKID. It took me a long time to quit smoking like 45 years. I tried the patch and even smoked with the patch on, then came the gum and ended up hooked on the gum so much I paid more for the gum then cigarettes so back to cigarettes I went. Finally someone told me about a ecig store and I went in and came out with two ego batteries and two Evods, coils, and juice. It's funny how you can't remember what you had for breakfast the day before, but never forget the time or date you quit smoking. My day was July 9, 2013. It didn't take me long to figure out how the cost of good atty's and mods were a bargain compared to the cost of cigarettes. I can't afford failures so I made sure I had the best vape possible and several backups just to make sure. I'm weak when it comes to smoking, but thank god I have not had one since the day I quit. You are doing great and it will get better with each passing day.

Bravo MKID and thanks for putting your story into words. Lots of similarities for sure. Your excitement is infectious. I was a 40 year smoker and loved most everything about it, except for the smell. My turning point came when I was facing a significant surgery and the stats were presented to me regarding healing success with smokers and non-smokers. There was that moment of willingness I had never had. I knew that I would be laid up physically for a long time and needed supplies that I could count on (cigs are much more assessable to buy than Vape gear in my area). Did a ton of research here and on the Internet. Scooped up some reliable supplies and haven't looked back. About a year into my vaping career, I found the Kayfun Lite Plus and haven't felt a need to buy another "out and about" atomizer (except to buy a second one☺️).

Pretty quickly, you will be lending a hand to someone else. Welcome aboard!

Way to be, MKID!!!

I had no intention of quitting. I smoked for 38 years and liked smoking. It stunk, I stunk, people I smoked with stunk; I didn't care. I woke up coughing every night; I didn't care.

My wife, who had been smoking longer than I, got talked into trying vape. When it (a 510T kit) came in the mail, I tasted it, and it was mine immediately. She had to order another kit for herself. (OK, well I let her share mine until her's came.)

On the same day, I signed up on ecf. Next day was my last cig. My wife took 2 days longer to quit. No problems! Love it!

That story sounds familiar. We never cared how we smelled or what anyone thought about the smell. Vaping was my last chance to finally quit and it worked. My wife never smoked a day in her life so I became the outcast when every public place went smokeless.
