It could also be my insulator. it is no longer flat from over-tightening it one time. I'll get pix later.
It is still isolating the + from - but the + deck (with the airhole) sits a bit off. like 175 deg instead of 180

paintmaster_zps39b734a1.png

and there is almost never a scortch mark on the cotton, just white/brownish (color of juice).

I'm certain i'll get it goin.

Bronze, thank you for covering questions directed to me. It's been a busy weekend, and I haven't been around much.

The twisted 32 performs equivalent to a 28, I believe and is working just fine. I'm using a HHV NET in one and a MOV NET in the other. The MOV one is starting to lag in performance and may need to be de-gunked by the end of the day. I'm going to try regular coils around the S shaped 2mm ekowool, following VD's method, with the twisted next.

See y'all later!

No problem Dust. You've pinch hit for me plenty of times.

I've boiled coils with wicks in them before and I can see how that would clean the crap out of them such that you'll get some good hits when put it back in use. But if there is something structurally wrong (like coils pinching wicks) then I have to believe the dry hit problem will return in short order.

My insulator is a hair rotated as well. I un-rotated it back in position and seems to be fine for the moment. I suspect it will re-rotate itself such that I will have to re-unrotate it again. Within a couple weeks I'm certain I will be re-re-re-re-re-re-un-un-un-un-rotating it again. :)

Grab the metal terminal block with some needle nose and tighten the pos post from the 510 connection with a flathead. That will stop that from spinning

I just thought I'd put this in here. Pbusardo just did a video on some juices and at the 15:30ish mark, he takes his Russian apart and puts in new cotton. I do mine the very same way except I rinse and brush the coil after dry burning and blow out the air channel (I didn't get as good a flavor when I didn't rinse it)

Anyway... for anyone interested

I do mine about the same way, except I don't unroll the whole cotton ball to make one wick. :)

i get the best results from my kfl's using 28awg 10 wraps hollow 2mm eko from litecigusa....(1.1-1.3ohm) wrapped around a plain nail....small.
the ithaka is a beast......i was stupid in buying pre-joined coils at 1.2 and 1.5 ohms so resistance is a bit too low for my sweet spot, in the excitement of vapeporn i forgot the basics of dual coils....lol....still a hell of an atty....
my favorite- full size kayfun 3.1.....really hard to beat that vape and stability

well phil must of looked at my video where I unroll my balls, then cut into 4 strips, lol, except I used a scissors. anyways, his wick looks great, nice and dense and fluffy, and they go straight down. I have always heard not to block off the channels? how can this be done? the only way would be to take something pointy and jam the cotton into the slots, if one doesn't do this, then you shouldn't ever worry about it, with cotton, blocking off the channels is almost a non issue.

I actually changed my wick today (new flavor) and my first build had the cotton just reaching the deck going straight down. Today, I placed the tail along the deck. Honestly I haven't noticed a difference one way or the other. In the end, for me at least, it's easier to just have it running straight down to the deck. It's added time and cotton that's useless having the longer tails. Just my 2 cents.

I do think it depends on the power your running. when I use my mech with 26g at 20 or so watts the kayfun wicks better when the tails are all up and in the slots. when I run the lite on the provari it doesn't seem to be as picky

I'll have to throw it on my vamo and see if I see a difference then. Been too happy on mechs lately to use the vamo.

ok, this thread is long enough not to read it from the beginning (although I'm thinking of printing it out for the WC library)...

Anyway, I've had a KL (on a mech) for over a month now and have made several different coil/wick combinations. I've tried everything from 3.0ohms down to sub 0.5. And although there is an infinite amount of wire/wick combinations to try, I've ultimately settled for a single 28ga A-1 kanthal, 10 wrap, 1/16th diameter, with a rolled cotton navy nest (loose fit) wick @ about 1.3ohms.

If anyone has a better setup, shout out. Not that there is anything wrong with this setup (quite the contrary), I just enjoy trying different combos and am afraid I've maxed out.

...and go

How do you thread your ekowool through your 28g coil, assuming you're setting up a microcoil around the small nail first. Still trying to figure out a way to do it. Also, how is the 2mm giving you enough of juice to run at low ohms?

I'm back to a duel wire or parallel wire 32 gauge wrapped around a 1.5mm allen key at about 1.4 ohms. Hard to beat.

Another arrangement I like is a vertical mounted coil with the wick wrapped around the outside of the coil. If you haven't tried it yet, then I'd suggest it for a great rainy day project. Something like this: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-systems/479743-rocket-tank-kayfun-clone.html

I do the same. I don't tear the cotton; I use scissors and cut strips. I think we all were under the impression, back when we started working with these things, that the cotton had to be kept well away from the channels. It's not true. There's more harm in using too little cotton, than using too much. I just feed a piece through the coil, big enough that I feel some resistance going through the coil, screw the chimney on, clip off the cotton a couple millimeters above the top of the chimney, and gently poke the cotton down toward the ledges, using a little screwdriver.

How many wraps of that 32 on 1.5mm allen???

I'm gonna check out that vertical while I wait...

Oops. I don't count, it's about 3/16th of an inch long. I'll wrap one and count them lol. :vapor:

I do wrap very tight spaced and also pulse and pinch them together after install.

Edit: 8 wraps (16 coils) should put you in the 1.4 to 1.5 range.
