I do the same. I don't tear the cotton; I use scissors and cut strips. I think we all were under the impression, back when we started working with these things, that the cotton had to be kept well away from the channels. It's not true. There's more harm in using too little cotton, than using too much. I just feed a piece through the coil, big enough that I feel some resistance going through the coil, screw the chimney on, clip off the cotton a couple millimeters above the top of the chimney, and gently poke the cotton down toward the ledges, using a little screwdriver.

Whether the tails are laid across the deck or going straight down to the inlets.. I don't think it matters as long as the tails are right on top of those inlets to suck up the juice as it's pulled up the channels. I know you remember the tough time I had when I was under the impression that the tails had to be kept away from the inlets. :glare: No problems at all since I quit doing that. I think this is the biggest problem that people are having, not having the tails in the right place. I was so afraid of blocking the inlets but now I think it would be extremely difficult to actually block the inlets... you'd had to really pack the tails down there and even then I don't think it would do much blocking.

I also see a lot of advice on not choking off the wick. I don't think this is a big problem either, with micro coils anyway. when I feed my wick through, there is quite a bit of resistance, I put as much through it as I can. Now if I were hand wrapping silica and maybe wrapped it too tight.. that might be a problem but with micro coils, or any coil thats wrapped on something and then the wick is fed through.. not much chance of chocking it.

Did u also enlarge the hollow positive post? Or just the hole that goes thru the base

Just the hole on the side

Edit : might go up a size from 2mm, not sure. Vaping with 24awg kanthal microcoil + cotton 7 wraps (8?) Set at 0.395ohms (thanks to vapdivrr)

Jubiare, what would the benefit of going bigger off the side be, if you're not expanding the positive post hole? Wouldn't you be creating a funnel effect for the air to flow through?

anyone explain to me why the brass on the GG tarnishes so much darker than the poldiac or 69?
N3xQ27e.jpg

what does one use to polish it? i don't like using brasso because it eats away at the etching...

I finally got a Kayfun Lite after reading the thread from end to end. Thanks for a lot of good info that helped me decide to spend the money on this device. I started with the Blu ecigs about 15 months ago, then went to an Ego with Kanger T2's. Then moved to vv Ego with Mini Protank and then to a Protank2 with a Joyetech Evic. I was ready to get into rebuildables, so the Kayfun Lite was the next step.
I will say the Kayfun Lite was a BIG stepup. I love it, great vape, flavor, everything I was looking for.
This is the first time I have tried to build a coil and wick it. I used 28ga wire in building a coil that was .150 inches od with 9 wraps. It came out to 2 ohms and I wicked it with CVS organic cotton which I boiled. I placed the cotton wick straight down to the top of the juice slots. I placed the coil about 2mm above the air hole and at a 45 degree angle to the posts.
IT WORKED PERFECT THE FIRST TIME !!!!
Thanks to all the posters on the tread for all the info I used in this first rookie build.

Hey guys, just wanted to give a quick update on how my first weekend with the KFL went and ask a couple questions.

I had it working great Friday and Saturday night and took it to bed with me as I usually pass out vaping while watching some tv. In the morning I noticed all my juice was gone from inside the KFL, which was full the night before. My fiance had already stripped the bed to wash the sheets so I didn't get to see if it leaked out anywhere. I did notice that it was leaking very very slightly from the fill screw at the bottom. I replaced the screw with the spare it came with and the leaking has subsided a bit, but there's still a little juice slick there. Has anyone tried adding a tiny o-ring to that fill screw or tried anything else to address this?

Also, after looking at the two videos (page 436 on this thread) that were posted Friday night - one from VapeRev of a girl with a standard Kayfun using silica wick and the other from VapeDvvr using cotton on KFL, I noticed some slight differences in technique that I wanted to ask about. I like VapeDvvr's method of creating micro coils but I'm using silica, so here's where my question comes in:

He takes the cotton and folds down each side and pushing them into the channels of the deck, the screws the inner tube on. The girl screws the inner tube on first with the silica passing through the top and cuts the excess off the silica (leaving a 1/4"-1/3" of material). She then tucks the 4 ends in around the walls of the center tube. There's no way to push them into the channels of the deck that way. If you're using silica and a micro coil, would it be better to put the ends of the wick into the channels (like VapeDvvr does with cotton), then screw the inner tube down on them? I followed the girls method and every once in a while I get a dry hit, so I cover the air hole to take 1-2 pulls to prime it when that happens. I'd like to avoid having to do that if possible.

Oh and one last question - what voltage should I be using on a micro coil that's 1.7-1.8ohms? I normally vape 50/50 Rawr Caramel juice at 4.2v on a dual coil 1.5ohm cartomizer. With the KFN, I've been setting my Provari to 3.8v but wasn't sure if this was correct.

Thanks

How do you thread your ekowool through your 28g coil, assuming you're setting up a microcoil around the small nail first. Still trying to figure out a way to do it. Also, how is the 2mm giving you enough of juice to run at low ohms?

i get the 2mm hollow eko from litecigusa...seems to wick better than other vendors i have tried...i just use my mouth to wet the tail of the rope and slide it through the pre-wrapped coil..it is more of a mini coil...i found a nail that is approximately the same size as the eko...yeah i get enough juice flow, sometimes I have to help the wicking though, it doesn't bother me that much.....

If you bought your Kayfun from Cloud9 or Intaste, and happened to get the complimentary miniature screwdriver with your order, there are two o rings on the screwdriver which work pretty well as a seal with the fill screw. Otherwise, if you didn't get one, a little piece of plumbers' teflon tape also works well. After filling, just place a piece of the tape over the hole, and install the fill screw. The screw will easily thread through the teflon.
As for your other question, I've done it both ways. I've set the wick ends on the ledges, and then screwed the chimney cylinder on; and I've also fed the cotton up through the cylinder, screwed it on, trimmed off the cotton a couple millimeters above the top of the cylinder, and then poked the cotton down the sides. It really doesn't make any difference. I sort of prefer the second method, so the cotton doesn't get caught up in the threads when I screw the cylinder on. I don't use silica or ekowool. I use cotton from cotton balls for my wicks.

I gotta say the 3.1 and 2.1mini vape spot.on with the same set up because I can restrict airflow.....the kfl.....im still experimenting in finding a way that keeps feeding constant....the ithaka is great in that sense, just picked up my first one a few days ago and loving the juice control and ease of dual coils......i gotta reverse my opinion.....the ithaka is quickly becoming a favorite....

OK so thanks now to donnah and LORD VAK!

So I tore the kfl down from the top this time taking piece by piece off. got down to the last ring
and the chamber/hat. took the hat off to see what was goin on. there was plenty of juice.

But my cotton was floating in it, or being suspended by the sides of the chamber.

It was parallel with the coil! how the heck?

and thats when I remembered lord's post :

lord, i hadn't considered pushing my cotton in the right place
after the chamber is put on (like the girl) . So I decided to try it.

So now that I've jammed the cotton right at the channels after I put the chamber on. Seems to be working better.

we will see.

thnaks all!

my first attempt at building a micro coil and using cotton. And I will say the flavor is definitely better than the ekowool I've been using. I took the biggest screw driver out of my kit and wrapped the coil around that. And just some cvs cotton balls and used that. Voila. My buddy said it look big so he's calling it a macro coil lol. Comes in right at .9 ohms. Just where I like it :)

that is pretty large. I have tried 5/64 as my largest but keep going back to 1/16 micro, imo the flavor is better. with you diameter your not getting as much coverage with the wires, this most likely will reduce the flavor. basically your doing a standard wrap on cotton. that's no micro coil, nor macro imo. a macro coil will be in the 5/64 range with all wraps touching. but if your liking it that's all that matters and stay with it.

no doubt if your going to do a set-up and place the tails first, then install the chimney you must poke the tails into place at the end to make sure they didn't move when screwing on the chimney. what I do next is to then screw on the bottom tube, drip juice onto the wicks, screw on the tin mans cap, then install the top tank.
