Just a side note here.
I've been filling my KFL+ from the top because I don't like the idea of having to carry around a screw driver and mess around with tiny little screws that are easily dropped and lost.
Well... Last night I used the fill hole for the first time and I was shocked to see how much more juice these things can hold doing it this way rather than through the top.
Granted, I might not have been filling it as far as I could when filling from the top for fear I would flood it but holy sheep chit what a difference!
Me likey this thing even more now. :thumb:

Yeah I have been doing it both ways. It always floods a little when filled thru the top. Then if you get the M tank it holds even more liquid too.

Moral dilemma here. Let's say that you ordered something online, and they accidentally shipped you two of them? What to do...

Depends on the value...example a little extra wick or wire and I wouldn't think much of it as it would cost more to return than it's worth. If the value is higher I would contact the vendor..they may choose to have you keep it a) because of your honesty b) the hassle for them to have it returned.

Earlier today I decided to change out the cotton wick I baptized my KFL+ with last Thurs. that had been working like a champ. Put in what I thought was same amount of cotton (into 1/16" 5 wrap 28g microcoil -1.2 ohm, using 3.4v on a Provari), same positioning on the deck; pretty much a carbon copy of the first wick.

Ugh. . . every 4th or 5th hit was bitter and slightly burned. Definitely needed to do a quick draw with the airhole covered to get it going again. Tore it down and replaced the wick with less cotton, same positioning on the deck; same 4th-5th hit nastiness. Took a look through web and found a thread from UK Vapers where someone was experiencing wicking problems on his KF3.1. I tried his idea of opening the top cap just enough to let a small amount of air in (until you see a small bubble arise from the bottom), and then snugging things up again before it floods. Worked like a charm, and have been pretty much chain vaping for the last two hours with no problems.

Thought I'd pass this along as I've not seen that trick mentioned here, although, to be honest, I have not read all of these 526 pages.

Feel free to try Rip's method.....but its completely different than a lot of us are doing over in the just hemp thread. I didn't listen to Rip's video (can't stand to hear him) so I don't know what he said, but I did see two major differences.

Before we get to the major differences....When making micro coils do yourself a favor and do what has been taught in this thread and many others....and that is squeeze the coil using some tweezers/etc and hit it with a butane torch. Rip's video could have been half the length if he would have used the technique.

1 - Don't leave a gap between the air hole and the coil. I have a Russian and 5/64" or 2mm drill bit fits perfect inside the air hole. I wrap the coil, then torch and squeeze, then put it back on the drill bit and insert the drill bit into the air hole, then make the coil connections. Leaving the drill bit in makes it much easier to make the coil connection and keep the coil centered over the air hole. After the coil connections are made I remove the drill bit and dry burn the coil and press down on the coil to further press the coils together and press against the air hole. Once that is to my liking (it might take two or three times) I put the drill bit back in while apply the wick.

2 - Wrap the coil fairly tightly similar to how Rip did it, but then fill the chimney tube to the top of the coil with loosely fluffed cotton/hemp, you don't want it packed tight but fill it up. As long as its not over packed it works just fine, it also helps with flooding from laying the atty on it side. Some will say that there Kayfun never floods.....but on a conventional Kayfun build it could very easily flood if the atty is laid so that one inlet opening is open to air and the other one is open to juice. I keep the drill bit in the coil until both stages of the wick is complete. Then I prime the wick in the chimney, put it back together and fill.

do you push those tail ends down into the juice channel / deck like you do with a regular horizontal micro coil setup or do you just wrap it around the coil and then pack small pieces of cotton / hemp in the deck, and keep packing till you fill it to the height of the coil?

it could come down a little, but too close and it doesn't vape or draw as well and it gunks up quickly. this may be affected by wattage too? I vape at more than twice the wattage you do. maybe at higher wattage it needs the more complete airflow around the coil?

my theory on it is that the coil is in a sense like an airplane wing or a spoiler, ideally it cuts through the air in such a way that the air slipstreams around it completely. when the coil is too close it can cause turbulence and uneven airflow, kinda like sticking your finger too close the faucet outlet with running water. the water will hug and flow around your finger right up until you get a little too close. the air will flow the path of least resistance and go to one side or the other, and too close doesn't allow the whole coil to get adequate airflow, I know I've seen others in this thread too say that there coil gunks up when it's too close, this is my best guess as to why :)

So the coil gunks faster when it's closer to the air hole? i like having about 1mm space is that good? I like it close to the air hole because I don't like a lot of TH, the closer it is the less TH right?

It was more of a joke post. I already talked to the shop, and they're mailing me a return label.

Glad to hear there are still honest people out there, i bought a KFL but inside the package there was an invoice and products for another person(nothing of value on the box actually). Neither the store owner or the other dude acknowledge the problem :'(

In the short time I have had my 2 KFL I found that if I fill it 100% on a new cotton wick it will burn within the 5 hits. I now only fill 95% on a new wick and 100% on refills. Not sure why filling it 100% is only a problem with a new cotton wick, but it is, at least for me it is.

I always tuck my cotton down towards the wicking channels after putting on the lower part of the chimney, then generously wet it with juice. I also put a drop on each wicking channel outside the lower chimney. You should see the liquid crawl into the channel. This seems to be the best way for me to prime it following a re wick. Then finish the assembly & fill from the bottom. I usually do a couple of dry pulls before starting to vape.

I was wondering with the chimney, which side goes up? One end has slightly wider threads. I read in one of the past posts that there is a right side that goes up.

Thanks, IM trying to get this to vape consistantly. Either its gurgles, but good taste or it gets dry and tastes horrible. Its a love, hate, kinda like, like, love , hate , hate , hate...... Ive tried cotton balls; yuck, ekowool; 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, right now its cotton cheese cloth/pad and its doing well. Crossing my fingers. SO far no gurgle nor dry hit.
