I gotcha, then you would mount the coil with the legs at the bottom and the coils sitting tall, correct? Thanks

Here's a link to my pictures in this thread. I mount my coil much higher than most do, I'm only offering them since they show the legs really well since the coil sits so high.I gotcha, then you would mount the coil with the legs at the bottom and the coils sitting tall, correct? Thanks

You can do it either way. It's just easier with the orientation shown in the last few pics because the legs of the coil wrap around the screws such that the act of tightening the screw draws the wire tight under the screw. You want the legs to wrap around the shaft of the screw in a clockwise direction because that's the direction that the screw head moves when you tighten it. If you try it in the opposite direction the wire has a tendency to move away from the shaft as you tighten.I had mu first build opposite if yours, whats the difference?

I def wouldn't recommend it. as a general rule of thumb for rebuilding, there should only be 2 metal parts in contact with a coil, and they are the 2 leads. having the coil sit directly ON the deck can lead to all kinda issues, such as varying resistance. And I can almost guarantee you'll either experience:
1) uber long heating time because the positive block is conducting heat away from the coil
2) if you're patient enough and the coil does heat up, you'll melt the insulator. (i speak from painful experience hhahahhahaha)

If you don't need the top cap, FastTech has $5 nano kits which are just reduced height metal ring sections and the reduced height chimney cap. Granted it'll take a month to get it, but it's cheap. I'm sure you could get genuine parts but that'd be expensive. Perhaps a search of eBay offerings would be the way to go.So is it possible to just buy short chimney sections anywhere? Or do you have to buy a whole nano kit?
Problem is, I bought a nano kit (around $25?). The sleeves screw up nicely, but the chimney doesn't thread onto any of my 3 authentics and 1 R91. I'll have to send the kit back.
