So what is the perfect distance from the air hole to the wick then? It is quite near so far as far as i knew

I've been setting mine up with micro coils. I set the 1/16 rod, that I wrap my coil around, on top of the two screw heads, and position the coil directly over the air hole. So, the distance to the bottom of the coil is whatever the height of the screw heads is.

Well, it is freshly build wick, i will use it for a day, and let see..

For me vapor is not too important. Flavour is most important..

1 thing i notice is that this atty is hot. Even at 1.7 ohm, at 10 watts, after a few drags, my Evic tempt alarm was giving me warning. This is never happened before.

Thanks for your answer Tennovan

have you checked your resistance? is it stable? if the atty is getting hot there is something wrong. could be shorting or your wick is not installed correctly in the coil. also do you have some good batterys?

hey guys, for those interested in a micro coil here is a video I did. although I use this set-up in a reo, the coil is exactly the same. the only difference I do in the kayfun is to make a slight separation in the coil(right in the center) this separation is where I will eventually pull some cotton through. I thread the cotton all the way through first, leaving about an inch or so on each side, I then pull through the cotton from the center pulling it upwards. I now have both ends of cotton and a length coming out from the center. I pull up this length about an inch and then cut the loop, I then take all 4 ends and push down into the deck. one good thing besides flavor and vapor is that you can fire this coil up before adding the wick, this will tell you (if everything is glowing ) if the coil is correct and not shorting against anything. at this point (before adding the wick) I check the resistance, if everything looks stable I add the wick. the cotton wick will need to be changed between every 4 days to a week(depending on the juice& resistances).

Yes, it stable at 1.7 Ohm.. I am using AW IMR 18650 battery.. But today the alarm is not telling me that it is too hot again.. well, maybe just because i chain vape it, but let see i will observe while using it today

alright... microcoil installed (30g wrapped around 1/16 drill bit), cotton threaded through the coil, tails of the wick sitting on the ledge... came out to .8ohms (lower than what I was shooting for) I soaked the wick but I'm letting it sit for a little while. I used to use cotton back when I recoiled my vivi novas and stopped using it because it was so easy to burn. I've got the Provari set to 2.9

5 minutes later... Um.. YEA.. that's pretty good! Let's try it on the Roller...that's really good too, lots more vapor than I was getting on my first build with ekowool and the figure 8 wick. I've got the coil as close to the air hole as I can get without touching it.

10 minutes later... .8 is too hot on the Roller, even with a half charged batt. 2.9v on the Provari is perfect though. Geez I wish I had got more than one Provari "cone" :glare:

Something might be going wrong with that coil. How many wraps are there? A microcoil is supposed to be more wraps (than usual). When I wrap an 8 wrap coil on 1/16 bit with 30g, it comes to 1.6ohms and that is a great resistance to be in.

very true, im using 26g with a 1/16 diameter with 8 wraps and getting .6to.7Ω, 30g at 8 wraps would seem to be a lot more.

well all I know is whenever I vape silca and chain vape it seems to dry out on me compared to cotton. I think that's why cotton has a better flavor, because it wicks better. although your set up is hot, does it taste good, or is it a little off? maybe the wick is just drying up and getting hot?

for the last couple days been going bacl & forth on the middle coil pull out of the cotton wick. I do think it wicks slightly better but not enough to make a big difference. what I have noticed is that a regular wicked coil, without pulling through in the center coil, the wick lasts longer and hits actually harder. better results just wicking straight through coil.

I really like your videos and if you ever have time to make one on your Kayfun build I would love to see it:)

Thank you for sharing that observation. I just pull the wick straight through on my micro coils on my kayfun Lite and Kayfun Term adapter, and it's the best vape I ever had on these devices.

this is the first and only kayfun device I own, and have only had it for a few weeks. my first build was with the micro coil because I just love them. a few days later I just wanted to compare it to a silica set-up, had the silica in for a couple days and had to scrap it, imo no comparison to the micro build in both flavor & vapor. when I went to make the second micro build I tried the coil separation deal thinking it would add some performance by extra wicking, but cotton wicks so well that it didn't matter and having a slight gap above the air hole in the kayfun actually decreased the performance.

another thought, maybe to much wick material crammed into the device? not sure just wondering why its running hot. the set-up im running is pushing 24 watts and is so cool, I mean not even warm to the touch. you said your mod was alarming but can you actually feel the kayfun getting hot? or its cool but your mod is saying it hot?

I agree, about the micro coils and cotton. I have two KfLs. My first builds were with silica and ekowool. After trying one with cotton, I abandoned the other materials. Not that the silica and ekowool were bad. They weren't. But the micro coil and cotton are better. Plus, maintenance is easier.
