It's been like this for all my vaping gear. I've been vaping my liquids for more than 3 years now and I never could go over 7 watts with any atty. What is your liquid PG/VG ratio?
I hate to be bearing of bad news but if you cant vape above 7 watts without a burnt taste.... its not wicking right.

Could just be the specific liquids you're vaping?

Some vendors, like GVC (or was it nicoticket) specifically recommends 11 watts to prevent scorching of the juice.

I would find it weird if aaaall juice taste burnt above 7 watts though. I have 100% PG, 20PG, 50PG, 10PG and 0PG

Personally, I don't like more than about 35% PG, higher PG dries out my mouth and throat too much; but to each his own -- vape what you like, how you like it.

Flavors do make a big difference. I rarely run my Kayfuns over 10-12 watts (and always on regulated mods). But my mechanical bottom-feeder has a 0.75 ohm coil in a Cyclone atty, which produces something in the low 20 watt range with a fresh battery. At one point I decided to put the juice that I run normally run in the BF in a Kayfun and my reaction to it was very "Meh". Sometimes I'll put unflavored in the bottom feeder's bottle and just drip in other flavors. Some of the ones I run in like in my Kayfuns aren't that great in there -- not burnt, but not "right" either. I think a lot if it is simply what someone has gotten used to; kinda like most of us preferred a particular variety of cigs back when we were smoking. That variety wasn't really better, it was simply what we were used to.

I keep thinking, oh this flavors not bad, then I hit the same juice in a kanger tank or drip it and it tastes fine.

AHA! Or something to that effect. Maybe the juice is the problem -- you never actually tasted it till you tried it in a kayfun?

Don't laugh; I get a really REALLY weird taste from my all-day every-day Virginia everytime I try it in a dual-coil device. So clearly, not every juice is made to use in every device.

Let us know how the kit works...where did you get it?

It works great! I put the pineapple in it last night, and man, that is really yummy! It was great just in my ARO Pyrex, but with the kayfun I get so much more flavor, it's incredible.

I had been looking at the quartz kit at kidney punchers, $19.95+shipping... it's the "rainbow" or "heavenly rainbow" or something like that... but then I found the very same one on ebay for $19.88 FREE SHIPPING... so I jumped on that. It was from empirevapes.

I will have to say, I noted a little bit of damage on the outside of the glass, near one of the seals, but it doesn't seem to cause a problem; no leaks. And kidney punchers does have the replacement quartz tank-only for a very decent price, so if necessary at some point I can get that.

I only like 100%PG liquids. I tried VG in some liquids but never liked the taste at all. I even tried adding some VG to my liquids and it just tasted bad to me. Anything over 7watts is just burning flavor. I could never understand this with everyone here vaping at higher watts.

Me either! But I know my regular Virginia can't take a lot of heat, it just tastes nasty if I go over 9w with it; I think I once pushed it to 9.5w but that really was pushing it, it had just a *suggestion* of a burnt taste, so I backed off again. But I find that with other flavors, I really don't need to go any higher than that either, and usually lower, in the 7-8.5 range. I love TH but can't take TOO much of it, or I get a coughing fit, ditto with too much vapor.

I use a pretty high PG level myself, but still like just a little bit of VG. At first I was using 85PG/15VG, then tried 67PG/33VG, but it affected my asthma pretty badly, so now I'm backing off to about 75PG/25VG; might even end up back around 80%-85% PG. I don't really have a problem with the taste of VG, but it's really heavy on my lungs, just smothers me, and I really hate how much thicker it is, so much harder to refill using a regular dropper bottle -- my thumb isn't strong enough to squeeze that hard for long enough to refill even a kanger tank, much less a kayfun.

Are you able to bottom fill with that quartz kit? I'd really like a clear tank but also prefer to bottom fill.

At first I thought I was going to have a problem with that, because the blunt needle wouldn't go all the way in, as it does with any of the regular tanks; the ring has a bit wider of an inner-edge than any of the normal rings or tanks. But I've already experienced the flooding from trying to top-fill when you really don't know how to do it right, so I tried injecting just a little, to see if it was going to make a mess, but it didn't; I was able to bottom fill using a syringe as I normally do, but I went a little slower, just to make sure it wasn't going to flood backward and cause a mess. It never did, so I was able to keep filling to a normal level. :thumb:

Well..... I have been eyeing a 26650 size device for a few months. The Mutant fell in my lap this week, so i needed a "large" 26650 size atty. Kayfun Large from 101 arrived on saturday. Simple tear down, insulators look just like a normal kayfun. O-rings, tanks and deck are big. This atty was simple to set up, microcoil on a 1/16 drill bit. Great performance as any kayfun i own. Now i do not have to change a battery or tank for a few days. Mutant-Large-Kayfun.jpgMutant-n-nem.jpg

I really am at wits end to what this weird flavor is, fully torched kanthal 28 guage at 1.2 Ohms, vaping at 15 watts and I still have that weird nasty taste, after washing it.

Boil it. Just make sure you boil only metal and not plastic parts. If boiling doesn't work, nothing will.

But sounds like you either have a wicking problem or you're vaping too hot. Lower the voltage and keep trying.

Curious what juices you are using. As a general rule 100% pg based liquids would be thinner and should not have a wicking issue. With a kayfun you should be able to vape much higher than 7 watts. I would try another juice

Did you you completely disassemble the base? I think you might have overheated the insulators, and they need to be replaced. You'll never get rid of that taste until you replace them.

This is where I am lost, no I did not I think, I took out the pin system, the screws on the deck positive block, juice hole.
