Can someone explain to me how the nest build would work well?

I suppose the coil wick is drawing juice from the nest which is very close to the coil ends. In between draws, the wick pulls juice from the deck and some of it is stored in the nest. The nest is acting as a reservoir.

I cannot give a technical reason, but it seems to provide a reserve for liquid and more flavor and vapor production.

here's another method: Wicking Kayfun/Russian v2.0 - Imgur -- which is similar to the navy nest method. the simple circle nest is much easier, though.

I just tried this, it really makes sense to me splitting the tails. It keeps the channels open and cotton wicks so well it should still have plenty capacity. Should no in a few hours whether it works.

Can you lay the KFL on its side when full and using it?

For well over a year, my KFLs have been leak proof during their normal daily use. I put them in my coat pockets without giving it a second thought. I lay them down sideways on my couch.

The only time one of them leaked was when I was driving back to Las Vegas from San Francisco. There was a long stretch where there was a major elevation change in the mountains. I reached over to my mod cup holder and grabbed my KFL. It was leaking through the air hole and I mean it was LEAKING. Interesting note though, the GG Ithaka, which was sitting in the same holder, was just fine.

I'll try it again with the KFL. Next time, I'll turn it upside down when I encounter that particular stretch of road.

I so appreciate this thread. I read it daily and continue to learn. After reading about the bird's nest yesterday, I gave it a try. I use organic cotton on a 1.3, with approx 40 pg/60 VG juice. After nearly a tank later, it seems that the flavor and vapor are even better and have had no dry hits.

Regarding leaks: I keep my mod stashed in my front pocket when not in use. I've been using the authentic KFL for a few months and not a drop has escaped. Can't report on elevation changes though...yet.
Thanks for the post :)

I've been using double 3mm silica wicks mostly in my Kayfuns. Does anyone here that uses silica, use a single 3mm wick? Might try it for the hell of it next rebuild.

I use two strands of 1mm silica, grab it from the middle with a fish tape and pull through a 2mm ID microcoil resulting in 4 strands of 1mm. Well, when I use silica. I'm presently using cotton but that's how I do it when using silica.

Have you used double wicks also? Any difference?

Yes I have and it is basically the same as using a single piece of 3mm.All you need is one piece of the wick touching the juice and it wicks.
I have also run it with dual coil 3mm silica a loop of silica on each side of the posts once wrapped under the screws you fold one looped end back to set onto the ledge of the juice well.I usually like to vape at .5 with all of my builds (+ or - .1) and the vape is stellar,a bit warmer with the dual coil in that small chamber.
