Got my first kayfun today... WOW!! Rinsed it off and let it soak in a bowl of hot water with a couple drops of dawn while I watched one more video. ;) rinsed the deck and let the rest keep soaking while I took a stab at my very first build. Used some 28g kenthal and some organic cotten. I did 6 or 7 wraps and put her on top of my svd. Read 1.3ohms, dry fired and cleaned it up. To be honost, I am super happy how my first coil came out! Got everything else rinsed and dried, assembled it, and filled her up. Moment of truth.. screwed her onto my provari, checked ohms again, 1.3, lowered voltage to 3.8 and :vapor: FANTASTIC!!! I'm in love!! Now to build this russian 91 and see if it was just beginners luck.. but first:vapor::vapor::vapor:

If you like 3.8v then that's great and keep her there but if you feel you want a little more, the max you could do on the provari would be 4.4 with that 1.3 coil. If your still getting great flavor and vapor at 4.4 then you have built a good one. Even at 3.8v it's a good one, a micro coil hits hard, so 3.8 is a great vape on the kayfun and provari, so no need to go up if your good but just saying you could if you want and it won't hurt anything. ..

Yeah I started off on 3.8 just to get things going. I am at 4.2 now and loving every minute of it! Thank you though for the advice.

I am going to do this russian 91 here in a few. What ohm should I be shooting for using regulated mods? Should I build a little higher or am I in a good zone?

Mile, it depends on the lower limit of the mod; e.g. old eVics wouldn't handle anything below 1.5Ω, however the new standard eVic will handle 1.0Ω. The eVic Supreme goes down to 0.5Ω and the SX200 box clones too. However, the post isolation of the Kayfuns and Russians is not designed for extreme heat and might melt. Rule of thumb is to keep above 1.0Ω. I find their sweet spot to be around 1.2~1.3Ω but YMMV. Most folks (and the manufacturer) will sugest ca. 1.5Ω. In any case, between 1 & 2Ω you are in the ballpark.

PS, Oops! I was writing while you were sending your stable pic. I didn't guess you were a provarinati. I ignore their parameters but guess they will handle something like 0.5Ω?

At the very beginning, I used Rayon for everything but Kayfuns because I couldn't get it to work right.
The main reason people don't like Rayon is because, unlike Cotton, it doesn't expend when wet. In fact, it even shrinks after a while. Therefore you have to use just right density from the get go. That said, I "stuff" my coil with Rayon. I put as much of it as I possibly can without damaging the coil, I pull until I fill a "Squeal" holding my Rayon wick from both ends stretching it. Then I would pull back a little bit to make sure that it moves. That's the right density for me.
This method leaves you with pretty thick fluffy wick tails on both sides of the coil. To successfully build a Kayfun, you've got to trim those tails. Rayon is liquid conductive enough and you don't need that much Rayon hanging down to your deck to wick properly.
What's been working for me is to trim diagonally about 50% of it.
Here is how it looks like:

its funny how results can be. as stated before, I use rayon and kgd in all my tanks depending on my mood I guess, but the only tank I don't use rayon in is the kayfun. I think the reason why is I always, like you, trim the rayon tails. in my fogger when I use rayon, the tails are almost non existent. in my erlk the tails are basically strands if any at all. so whenever I have done a rayon build in my kayfuns, there again like you, I always trimmed my tails by at least 30% if not more. more times then not this didn't work out very well and what was happening was the tails shrunk so much they got pasted up against the channel sides, completely flat, and didn't seem to draw any juice up. after a build, I would soon get some dry hits and when I opened up the tank, the wick tails seemed almost dry and very white as if no juice reached them, very weird. anyways I kind of gave up on the rayon in the kayfun. well just today I did a rayon set up in the kayfun and only trimmed my tails by like 5% but for the most part they were big and fluffy like my cotton tails, and this has been the best rayon build to date. so for me at least, the reason my previous rayon builds didn't work was because I trimmed the tails too much. go figure right! and yes, rayon does seem to shrink slightly, so one definitely needs to add more in the coil then with cotton.
