it's looks like maybe my coil isn't so good.. I'm seeing at least one part that doesn't look to be in contact with the wick. I guess just like a mesh wick, if there is a part of the coil that isnt touching it, it'll give a burnt taste. So maybe it's my coil.

yes the coil looks to long, but can be straightened out. the connection at the bottom of pic looks like its ok because its connected to the screw the correct way, but the top connection looks like its connected to the screw the opposite way, if the top lead was connected to the screw the opposite way, it may straighten it out better. come to the opposite side of the screw on the top coil. hard though to really tell, but to get a relaxed coil it needs to be slightly smaller in length, when its to long, and as you tighten the screws it scrunches the coil. I think you can still keep the same number of wraps, just make the coil a little tighter and make the connections to the correct side of the screws. everything else looks good, maybe the tails are a tad to long and the wick is a tad to thick. reduce the diameter of the cotton slightly and trim the tales slightly. but like you said if the coils are not making contact, it heats up to much.

Yep, I think the trick is to use the right amount of cotton. I differ with vapdivrr in that I don't wet the cotton to roll it. I roll it dry, except the very tip, so I can get it started through the coil. It probably doesn't matter much, because it's going to be wet with juice anyway, eventually. But my wick is still somewhat fluffy when I pull it through.
I have mine drop down to the ledge, and then lay horizontal along the ledge. I trim them so that the end stops right at the end of the ledge. The horizontal part goes from right to left, so that the threads on the chimney don't skrunch up the wick when I screw the chimney on.

very true rule, I do lay the tales horizontal like you said, although I don't think they go to the very end of the ledge. I really don't wet the cotton all that much, I just kind of lick my fingers and then roll. I find when my fingers are slightly wet it makes it a little easier. but donnahs wick looks pretty good right? its probably the coil

also im thinking that the thinner the gauge the harder it is on these micro coils. I couldn't imagine using 32g for one of these coils. also these coils get pretty hot, so im thinking the thinnest gauge to use is 30g, preferably 28g, and if you like higher watts then even thicker. I do know that with a thinner gauge wire you can stiffen it up a lot by heating the coil before inserting the wick. if you get it glowing for a couple seconds then let it cool, then repeat this process maybe 10x's or so, the coil will eventually get stiffer, which will make it ultimately more stable.

Just wanted to pass on some knowledge here -

My kayfun light worked flawlessly for the last five days. Today, out of nowhere, it started to weep from the airhole.

Tried to blow out the excess from chamber by blowing into the mouthpiece and it continued to leak. Tried to take slower drags attempting to vape excess liquid, still leaked.

Opened it up, drained fluid, disassembled, looked at coil. Through heat, a bump, or whatever, one side of the coil had drooped close to the airhole inside of the evaporation chamber. Took a small screwdriver and pried the coil higher over the airhole, put chamber on, tucked wick back into place, reassembled unit, and no more leak. Since the coil was really close to the airhole, the wick was feeding fluid into the airhole and drained out of the exterior air intake hole.

Just wanted to put this out there for anyone having random leak problems as a place to look if your Kayfun starts to leak on you.

I got my kayfun lite this past Friday. Built my very first coil ever that same day, 4 wraps of 32 ga kanthal, with a 2mm silica wick in the classic figure 8 pattern. I was in a slight rush, had to leave to go hang out with friends. So, my coil wasn't as great as what it could be. For the rest of that day I wasn't that impressed. I was thinking, darn, my protank does better, I may have to rethink how to make a coil. But, then, the next day, without doing anything, it just came alive. And I'm thinking, wow, this thing is great! Note, I'm wondering what will happen when I put on about 5 wraps with 30 ga and using the ekowool that I received. Do you all think there will be any improvement with just those differences from what I'm running currently?

yes, the thicker the wire the better the flavor. if your liking 32g, you will love the 30g. the thing is to maintain your your resistance to the wattage preferred. don't know what the resistance is in your current build but lets say 2Ω. well the 30g is going to give you more wraps for the same resistance. with a standard wrap, like the one your doing, you can only do so many wraps. anyways imo, the thicker the gauge the better the flavor, also the lower the resistance the thicker the vapor.

With my (possibly) sloppy 4 wraps off 32, around 3 layers of 2mm silica, I'm getting 1.7 ohm. I'm using 4.2 volts on my provari. I like the wattage that 4.2 volts and a 1.8 ohm protank gave. I figured that whatever ohms the 5 wraps of 30 ga gave me, I would do the math to figure out the voltage to give me the same wattage. It's great to know that I will see an improvement in vaping quality by getting a thicker wire and keeping the wattage the same!

good deal. I sometimes get this when I leave the device in my truck for a while, I guess the heat can do weird things. temperature differentials make it feel like there is juice in the airstream, like gurgley, but just for a vape or two.

Your wick looks fine. But you have a bad loop on your coil. Upper left end. I don't think you're getting a dry hit. I'm guessing it's a hot spot.

Yea.. I didn't see that until I saw the picture up close.. when I look at it (even with reading glasses on) I can't really see the bad loop. I guess it's time to invest in some magnifying glasses LOL.

I just took the coil pictured above out and redid a new one. This time I scrunched it together like in vapdivrr's video (I can hear it now so I'll go back and watch it again with audio this time) to make it even. Right now it seems to be vaping pretty good but I just soaked my wick and filled it so I'll see how it does after the initial soaking has vaporized. This is really my first time with a micro coil like this so I'm not surprised it's taking me a bit to learn it. I'll vape it for awhile tonight and see how it does. I really think my problem was with my coil having that hot spot.

I really do like this thing, even though it's taking me some trial and error, it's been fun and a tad frustrating. I have to be honest and say that it hasn't totally blown me away like ekowool in my gennys has. (at least not yet)

4.2v x's 4.2 = 1764, 1764 divided by 1.7 = about 10watts. so you can say 10 watts is your sweet spot. in the future if you wanted to try the maximum the provari will give you(15watts) do a coil at 1.3 to 1.4 ohms, at about 4.6 volts, with 30g. but enjoy what you got going on for now

also check out the video I did today, it is not that long and it shows exactly how to mount the coil to the screws. one good thing is that once the coil is straightened out and all wraps are even, it should stay for a while without having to mess with it. hot spots are killers. also there is no way I could even attempt one of these if I didn't have one of those magnifying visors. I wear mine like a hat, all the time because im always messing around with this stuff, the one I have also has these little lights attached to the visor, mandatory for us older guys.

Lol! Yeah, I did the math after I posted. I'm diggin' the kayfun! This little sucker is simply pure awesomeness!!
: one of the smokers that I go out with on smoke breaks (hopefully a vaping convert soon!) Calls my setup a screwdriver. Lol!

I'm using 30ga on mine. 10 wraps on a 1/16" wire. I don't find that I need to go super low res, because the micro coil/cotton set up doesn't result in the heat sink effect that ss mesh does. So, I've been running mine on my Provaris, instead of my mechanicals.

Thanks for posting this! I think you just diagnosed why my GP Spheroid sometimes wants to leak out the bottom :)

LOL... someone asked me the other night why I was carrying around a screwdriver

I'm using 30g also, I hate trying to attach 28g to anything! Since I've found myself preferring silica (and now cotton) over ss mesh, I'm using the provari's much more. To me, a genny with mesh isn't a good vape unless it's .8 and on a mech and a mech isn't good unless it's attached to a genny with a .8 coil and mesh. I sold me EA mod and am going to list my moneypenny sometime soon. I want to keep my Roller and be able to use it so I might get a kick unless I find that my KFL will work to my satisfaction on it. Oh... and I bought another provari

I love my mesh wick geny set ups on my mechanicals. I just don't find the sub ohm set ups to be necessary with anything using soft wicks, like cotton, ekowool, or silica.

I'll keep mesh in at least one of my gennys but everything else will be running silica or cotton.

I just wanted to chime in on this.

@vapdivrr: Thank you for your videos. I think seeing how it's built and how it performs is much more effective than reading anecdotal posts.

I have almost totally switched to microcoils and cotton (even with gennies), except my current silica setup on the KFL, which soon will be cotton as well.

Interestingly: My Dream BT804 (heavily inspired from Kayfun) with its 30g 1.6ohm microcoil + cotton vapes better than the KFL with the silica.

A recap of the many +ve's I see with microcoil+cotton:

- Much more efficient: Normally a ~10Watt vaper, I don't go above 7-8 watts with micro+cotton. The uniformly heated surface area of the microcoil seems to be very effective. I get more battery life per charge
- Cotton is tasty: I think it is a very good wicking material, as long as you don't burn it
- Compared to SS mesh: The juice stays fresh. SS mesh/wire heat up the juice and deteriorates it. I no longer use my 'trash bottle' that I used to collect bad juice from gennies
- Replacement: Once you set a coil, it is very easy to replace the cotton. And for minimal cost.
- Healthier(?): though without any scientific data to support, I see less potential risk with cotton than with SS mesh or silica

Simply great!. I expect microcoils to be the norm in vaping. :)

Note: For genesis, I use mesh/rope inside the tank up to the deck, where it meets the cotton that goes through the wick.

Just a heads up. Intaste is still my favorite site to get the LITE. They are a bit behind on sending them out. But once it is in FedEx's hands, three days to my front door. View attachment 235302
Have a great weekend.

Agreed. Intaste is the best. If you need any clone from Rainbow Heaven, try Vapourtrend.com...Above certain amount, DHL shipping is free..it reached me in 6 days
