What I do, is put the evaporation chamber on, without the tinman hat. Then I drop juice onto the wick until it starts to seep out of the intake channels. Then I put the tinman hat on and assemble the rest of the kfl. Then fill and wait about 30 minutes. no dry hits.

I do the same thing but I hit it right away (can't wait ) and haven't had a problem yet.

I've been 6 day and over 45mls on this build. I went to change the cotton last night and it was still looking clean. Put it back together and still hitting great !!!

Might be a little thick and long on the legs. Iput juice on mine so it swells how it's gonna do then I trim the gerth down some and the legs should just sit across ledge. I let mine soak over night not 1 dry hit with cotton.

maybe your a chain vapor? or vape a super thick juice? I don't really vape all that hard or fast so it might make a difference, or maybe its because my coil is of a thicker gauge, but after installing my coil and filling the kayfun, 5 minutes is all it should need. that small amount of cotton shouldn't make no difference from 5 minutes to over night. before actually filling the k-lite I saturate my coil and cotton 100 percent, its not going to absorb no more then that no matter how long you wait. then once its filled the pressure will seep the juice into the chamber within 5 minutes. imo, once this happens its done, and by waiting any longer doesn't make a difference. but who knows really, this is just an opinion.

I changed the juice in it to another flavor this morning and was to lazy to change the wick. I just rinsed it with water then dabbed with a paper towel, put in a new juice and bam.

I don't know how many of you still try a lot of new juices but I have the absolute best way to do this. I have a cheapy rda dripper, I installed a micro coil in it. now I just add a tiny amount of cotton under the coil, this cotton is only maybe twice the size of the coil, maybe 1/4 inch x 1/4 inch, just a little pad of cotton. the coil only slightly rests on this bed of cotton and no wick is installed through the coil just underneath it. drip maybe 3 drops on the cotton and your ready to taste the first juice. before trying the second juice, just remove the cotton, wipe the deck with a little piece of paper towel, install a new little piece of cotton and your ready to go. the other day I tested 6 new flavors in no time at all, and the flavor is the best.

Am I using too much cotton? I'm getting a burnt taste from the first few pulls. After flooding the chamber the burnt taste goes away but I don't know how long that'll last.

View attachment 239397

The picture was taken before I trimmed the ends. Is the density of the cotton too much or not enough?

26AWG, 9 wraps on a 1.5mm drill bit, 0.8ohms

I haven't perfected my wick yet. When I changed it last night, it took me 4 wicks to get the result I wanted. There's a fine line between too little and getting those tails just right to wick. When it's right, it's awesome.. when it's not right, it's not good at all. I'm getting better though. I hope that next time I'll only take me 3 wicks :glare:

I even did this with Pluid. It was silica though, but worked great.

Thanks for the input you all!

Through an accident, I found the length of my cotton is good and not obstructing the juice channels. First time Kayfun user - I tried opening up the top cap to have a look inside while the tank was still partially filled. Kayfun veterans would know what happens next. Juice came seeping out of the air hole.

Immediately sealed up the top cap and proceeded to wipe dry everything. Lost a significant amount of juice. Then I took a a few vapes in attempt to de-flood the chamber. And continued on some more till the tank was dry. No more burnt taste since that incident. I suspect it could have been I had too much juice and not enough air in the tank thus causing the juice not to flow as well in to the chamber.

So the length and placement of the wick is good. I'm still not sure about the girth. Although I've not gotten any dry hits since, it's bordering close to it. I can feel a slight discomfort at the back of my throat, like the prelude of a dry hit.

I'd be obliged if y'all would be so kind as to inform me please,
- what are the symptoms of too thick a wick?
- what happens if the wick is too thin?

Just a disclaimer but I'm fairly new to the micro/cotton scene, so I may be way off.

My first thought after looking at your pic was "it looks a little dense". My last build has been going strong for several days now and I've had no dry hits. What I've learned is that you don't want to roll your cotton too tight. If you're having to roll it tighter to make it slide through the coil, its probably too thick. In my experience, you want to roll it just tight enough to get the right shape and it should slide through with only minimal resistance. There should be some tug there, though. In my experience, the cotton should still be a little fluffy so as not to restrict juice flow.

I rolled my cotton waaaaay too tight on my first 4 or 5 builds (due to my coil size being smaller than it should of been) and the flavor just wasn't great. Once I got the correct coil in place and thinned out my cotton, it started performing as expected. As donnah mentioned, it can take quite a few tries to get your wick right... but once you hit the sweet spot, its fairly easy to reproduce. Plus cotton balls are cheap and easy to use, so that's a plus.

I agree with this. I have best results when there is a little resistance when pulling the cotton through the coil. I don't mess with the piece of cotton too much. I just lightly roll it enough to hold it's shape, moisten the end enough to make a little point, so that I can start it through, and pull it through from the other side.

I received my Lite yesterday from the russian site. Took 2 weeks and a day to get here, so not bad at all.

First build was a 4/5 wrap of 30ga on 3mm doubled silica, which was a tad harsh. Like maybe just a bit unsaturated.

Second build was a 10 wrap micro of 28ga (1/16" drill bit) with cotton. Flavor is great with that, but it meters out to 1.0 to 1.1 ohms, so it's a bit too powerful with a fresh MNKE in. I'll rebuild with maybe 12 wrap micro to calm it down just a bit.

What surprises me is that even at 1.1 ohm at 4.15V, it just keeps pumping out vapor even when chain vaping it. Liking this device a lot.

What do people use for cotton wicks? I have been using SS Mesh and Silica/Ekowool for so long and never tried cotton. I'd be interested to try since the KFL seems to really thrive with a Mech Mod, micro coil and a cotton wick.

I go to the bathroom cabinet and get a cotton ball out of the bag. They roll out flat, which makes is easy to to peel off a strip to make a wick.

I think my wicks to begin with, were too thin. They slid through the coil with little resistance. I "beefed" it up a bit and once it was in the coil, I untwisted it to fluff it up. The size and placement of the tails along the ledge is important too. I'm still getting the hang of it.

I bought a box of USP Rolled Cotton from CVS a while back. WILL. LAST. FOREVER.

CVS Rolled Cotton - CVS pharmacy

I have the same thing. It's amazing how little you need for a wick. No matter how small a piece I would grab, it was always way too much. WAY too much! After about a month, I'm only grabbing about 2x too much cotton. This $5 box will last at least a millennium.

I posted pix of my 1st micro coil + cotton wick here a few weeks back. It was my 1st LITE. It is still running strong. No burnt taist, no leaking... great TH & production. I fallowed vapdivrr's lead, watched his video's (posted in this thread) took my time. I have been using the same BUILD the past 20 days. Same coil, and CVS cotton ball wick.. It is the best $$ I have spent. My second LITE micro coil, did not even come close... burnt taist, re wick, burn taist... Put a 30g kenthal wire, 4 twists around a double 3mm wick.. Works fine, but my #1 LITE with the micro coil, kicks its ....!! There is no reason i can think, other then ??? fluid i was using. I will have some free time to put another micro coil back in. I prefer the micro coil set up.

I have 2 KfLs running cotton/micro coils. This morning, I received my 3rd one, and just for kicks, I decided to put an Ekowool wick, with a conventional coil in it. I used 5 wraps of 30g Kanthal, and a figure 8 with 2mm Ekowool. It metered at 1.7 ohms.
It wicks and vapes fine; but the micro coils kick it's ..... I'll be changing this one out, as soon as I finish the tank.
After doing quite a bit of experimenting with twisted silica, Ekowool, and cotton, with various wick configurations, wire gauges, etc., my conclusion is that there's nothing wrong with silica or Ekowool builds. But if you want these things to really rock, micros and cotton are the way to go.
