I don't see any point in boiling cotton balls. It would be about like washing a pillow. They aren't going to come out as fluffy as they were, prior to boiling. If you buy sterile 100% cotton balls, they aren't going to get any more sterile by boiling them.

have to agree with rule, boiling the sterile cotton wont make much difference, I don't see how. the flavor I am getting almost instantly is amazing. I compare the flavor to a well set-up genny with ceramic or ss mesh which is hard to beat. the setup I have in the k-lite with a micro and cotton is just as good, well extremely close.

Weird, I find the 30g easier to work with even after I torch both types of wire. 28g is pretty springy, but I do use it for lower ohm micro coils. I rebuilt my KFL last night using 30g instead so I could up the ohms a bit because I am using a super light colored juice. I usually vape dark colored thick vg based tobacco juices.

For me, the 28ga seems to keep its shape better than the 30.

Just got back from Boulder Colorado with my K lite for 5 days. The answer is Yes, altitude does effect the feed. I run an identical setup to Vapdivrr with cotton and micro and its glorious but at 6500 ft it gurgled and spit out the intake constantly. I didn't rebuild while at altitude but I am guessing a traditional silica 8 build would work better as it tends to wick a bit less.

Colorado, awesome! with the current laws it brings a new meaning to rocky mountain high. I often thought about the altitude thing and thought I could pose a certain issue but with a lot of the explanations on how this device works I now am not sure, but your experiences tell a different story. thanks

totally agree. it does hold its shape better. but I can see how someone would say about the springiness. when wrapping 28g the initial seat doesn't stay like a thinner wire. a thinner wire will bend and stay, while a stiffer wire kind of resists a little. overall once a coil is built with a thicker wire it will hold up better.

what type of cotton are you using? with the sterile type I don't believe its needed. I do something like this with a micro coil, I place the cotton underneath instead of through it, it works very nice. I do this build in drippers and the reo. when you do get the k-lite you can try to place a wick through your coil, and a small cloud underneath, between both it may be good. looking at all that wire I now see why you need 6 volts and more, that's a lot of wire to heat.

My first time building a 28ga micro. It was a lot easier than a 30ga. Vape is pretty warm, something I'm definitely not used to.

player, what resistance is she coming in at? it appears to be about 14 or so wraps, maybe about 1.6 to 1.8Ω?

I'm lucky if I get 2 hours from an 18350....more like and hour and a half before the drop off is too much for my tastes.

FYI, I get about 4 hours from an 18650 before I swap it out.

Maybe I'm a *really* heavy vaper....I do go through about 10ml a day. :vapor:

ever think about the new dna-20 tube mod? although they are pretty hard to get at this time I think it could be a great option. I myself am trying to purchase one soon.

I ran that setup for a month and was convinced that vaping couldn't get better. Then I tried Vapdivrr's cotton and micro build and my head exploded. I was reluctant to try it as I was soooo satisfied with my original build but I am really glad that I got adventurous. Trust me, it actually can be better. Try it!

thanks, did you actually do it with the 26g?

so iv been making my kfl micros with 12 wraps of 28g on a 5/64 bit and have hade good results after fresh build but after about a day vapor tapers down, iv been reading your posts and see that most of you use a 1/16 bit so I did a 10 wrap of 28 on a 1/16 bit got a ohm reading of 1.1 it is hitting harder on my nemesis and kick 2 at 13 watts but does not wick as well as the 5/64 diameter did does not seem to keep up as well is there a trick to getting the 1/16 to wick without drying out

I think the slight extra heat is compounding the issue that's been there all along. you had stated that your initial build was good for just a short time and then tapered down. this shouldn't be happening, with the proper wick you should be able to have a great vape for days with no downfall at all. so now with the 1/16 build this slight issue is compounding because of the increase in heat. does your wick look close to this? this is a 1/16 diameter coil.

Ok my issues have to be my technique. Micro coil /w cotton,.Flavor is muted/missing, in it's place is cotton. Not as bad as before I boiled and dried it, but is the prominent "note" in the "flavor".

Let me give some details maybe it will spark some advice on what I'm missing. I gave up trying to "vape through it" and put it up for the night. The next morning from the first hit to the last it was vaping nirvana. I had arrived. Flavor/vapor started tapering so I syringed out the tank to see how full it was and sure enough it was empty. Topped it off and the cotton/no taste syndrome was back. After half a day of hitting it off and on I drained the tank and saw that the wick was very swollen and probably blocking off the feed holes, so I pulled it out and re-wicked a smaller diameter wick. I laid the wick diagonally down the wall touching down just past the feed hole so even if it swells up it won't block juice flow. Same nasty flavor all day.

I doubt my problem is too much wick but I am having a wicking issue. I can flood it slightly and almost get 1 good flavorful drag off of it and the full cotton/no flavor comes back.

I'm missing something simple, what is it?

I wanted to post pictures but can't figure out how to get that done. Any advice on posting pics appreciated. Now to the point.

Got this idea from watching pbusardo's video on cleaning his Taifun GT. I rolled a SS wick & trimmed it so it would fit side to side inside the chimney of the KL without touching either side. Then I made a coil peterk style on a drill bit. Then eased the mesh through the coil. Next I fashioned two 'U' pieces of cotton & hung them off either end of the mesh wick. Trimmed the cotton to just barely touching the deck. Then carefully screwed the chimney into place. I then saturated the cotton with e-juice & fired her up. It produced vapor. YEA! Then I completely assembled my KL filled her up with juice & started using it.

WOW...WOW...WOW!!!!!!!!! Noticeable increase in flavor. About the same vapor production, which is good. .8 to .9 ohms at 12.5 watts on a DNA20D box mod. Vaping now about two hours. No dry hits. Coil breaking in nicely, getting better, if possible. WOW!

My goal is to see how long the .28 kanthan wire & SS wick will last. I will replace the cotton as needed, I suspect once a week, but dry burn the coil & wick when replacing just the cotton. Wish me luck!

I'd luv to see pics of that.....

If you're wanting to post pics, when you're in the text box, the upper most part of the box has icons for adding stuff, Third icon from the right is the pic attachment. Click it and select "from computer" if thats where they are.....then click "select files" and find where your pics are...
