I would not venture into modifying the K-Lite. I know it can be a bit frustrating at times, but experimenting with different styles and wick options is part of learning what works for you. Based on your description, I would hazard a guess and say that you are somehow choking the wick which is leading to a burnt taste. Would love to see one of your setups, before you change out the coil i.e the burnt wick in the chimney chamber.

Before doing it, can you post some descriptions of the wick methods you've tried? Or better yet, some pictures?

U could leave the chamber tube 2-3 threads untied and check it out.

Well, I've tried silica ("Butterfly" and just laying on top of the channels, just touching channels), micro-coil with cotton at about 10 different lengths of cotton wick.

Gonna try leaving the chimney unthreaded a bit (but won't the o-ring just grab it and tighten it when I put the top cap back on?) and see if that helps. Thanks guys!

Is it possible to use stainless steel mesh in the kayfun lite? I am sometimes miss the flavor you get with ss mesh and was curious if it's possible?

Search utube for 'rip trippers' and select his 'tin man coil' video. He shows making a coil with ribbon and claims that it tastes more like ss mesh. Of course, taste is subjective and that may not work for everyone, but might be worth a try.

I think ss mesh would be hard to get going/maintain but it's probably been done. Trippers also has a video on 'Rebuilding A Kanger Protank Using SS Mesh'. Different device but that's a small space and might be helpful.

hey yeti, keep at it bro, what were you using before this? I was on drippers with cotton so my
builds were almost exactly the same except more cotton.

For me its been working great right outta the box. I'm on my 4th tank and no difference in flavor from day 1. now day 4.

its like keeping the cotton wet at all times keeps it tasting better longer, I guess just like a carto tank.

I've been using this method from vaperev and seems to work very well for me. I tried leaving the ends very short and just laying it on the channels and had dry hits. Basically whether using silica or cotton leave the ends about 1/4" longer than the chimney then tuck down towards the channels on either side. I'm using cotton btw but only single layer.

I seriously don't get it - I've tried just about every wick configuration I can and the KFL just won't wick consistently for me. I get dry hits all the time...2 or 3 good hits in a row, than BLECH!

The only thing I can think of is that mine isn't machined correctly. I wish I had a second KFL to compare....

Anyway, has anyone tried to open up the juice channels at all? I'm not sure of the best way to go about it....I'm thinking of putting a very small notch in each side of the bottom of the atty chamber cap in line with the juice channels. Start small and make the notches bigger if need be.

Good idea or no?

I was getting dry hits all the time too. When I first got mine, I read somewhere that the wicks had to be away from the juice channels or they would block the juice from coming in. So this is what I did.. for a long time. Vapedivrr posted late one night that his wicks tails were always sitting right on the juice channels.

since then I've quit placing my wicks along the deck, away from the juice inlets... with great success. This last wick, I added a little extra cotton down in the chamber, just tore off a couple tiny pieces and placed them down in the chamber. This wick is 5 days old and has wicked perfectly.

If you really think your channels are too shallow (I highly doubt it) and placing your wicks right on the inlets doesn't work.. then maybe back off the chimney a couple turns.

Before you start trenching operations on your Kayfun (or any other disfigurement process), please post pictures for us. You spent too much money on that contraption not to move methodically here. We'll get you through it.

Yeti, if all else fails, I would mail your Kayfun to one of us before I start modifying it. For a couple/few bucks (one way) in postage you can have someone verify your Kayfun to be sure its not the KF causing you trouble. If no one else wants to do it I will.

Yes, I'm honest. Too many people know me on the ECF. :)

If I hadn't figured out what my problem was.. I was going to ask someone (who has no problems) to check it out.

It's always good to have another person check it out before you wave the white flag. I'd hate to see someone start hacking away at a $100+ device. If that's what it takes to fix something you're better off asking Svoemesto for a replacement. My guess is the user is just having some trouble getting it going. It happens to all of us. I can't get my AGA to work good for me to save my life. Don't have trouble with any other rebuild but that one. I'm sure he/she is anxious to get their KF working after hearing everyone talk it up. Frustrating for sure.

Yeti, I've run through my fair share of problems with the setup, so don't think you're alone. Too little wick, too much wick, wick too short, coils too tight, 3mm silica doubled, 3mm silica S shape, 2mm ekowool doubled, 3mm ekowool doubled .. they all have a bearing on how well it vapes.

Do I have a perfect setup figured out yet for myself?! No I don't. I do have some moments and days where all the stars align and it fires and hits beautifully. Then, I watch another video or read another post and go mess it up again.

Right now I have a single 3mm strand of ekowool in there with a 5/6 wrap of 30gauge and it has worked nicely all day. The flavour is not 100% there yet, but it's wicking well and hitting well. Not sure if this is due to ekowool or still something that needs to be tweaked. :)

I've done 3 rewicks on mine using micro coil and cotton ball. Roll a long thin piece enough to get through the coil with only a little bit of resistance. Untwist the ends to fluff them up then lay each tail down from one corner of the deck to the other. When I put my chamber on and look down it looks like the entire floor of the chamber is lined with cotton without any empty space on the deck. I make sure I dont press the cotton down firmly onto the deck, just lay it gently on the bottom. I've had two beautifully perfect days with mine with no wicking issues.

I also make sure the coil is about 1.5mm from the air tube. This distance is giving me massively flavorful and saturated vapes with just the right amount of warmth for my tastes. I prefer flavor and vapor production over throat hit any day. I grew tired of the massive throat hits I used to get from smoking Marlboro Red analogs, my current setup is straight bliss!

Just ordered some Boba's Bounty and Gorilla Juice from AVE, cant wait to have my first experiences with those! With this setup I might just have a mouth orgasm when they arrive.
