you know what happened once, or at least I think it was the cause. I keep my cotton balls in the package it came in, all sealed up. I usually take out one ball and cut it up into strips and keep these in a separate bag. these strips I use a lot, almost every day or two when rebuilding. well after handeling this cotton for a week or so I think they got spoiled and weren't fresh because maybe I wasn't washing my hands enough. anyways have you used a totally fresh cotton ball? or pieces that been handled maybe to often? just a thought

Well. That's it. Raised my coil substantially. Used less cotton. Plastic.

Used cotton from a brand new bag (I do the same thing with putting a bunch into a smaller ziplock bag). Same plastic.

I guess I have a set of replacement parts now haha. Although one of them is messed up. Grumble

qorax, how you liking the aqua? for me its the aqua under .6 and the kayfun over. the vapes are equal imo, but when I feel the need for super low res vape, the aqua handles it so much better

Hi Vap, I'm liking it, yes I do.
Both are very similar, but the Aqua doles out the plumes better and with higher TH. However, it's also PITA to build, maintain and many moving parts could be nightmarish at times. Besides, being expensive.

So, if it has to be one ~ Kayfuns take the cake (especially the R-91)√ But given that we like to try, and are unicorn chasers ~ the Aqua is a must have too. It's good stuff!

oh yes the build does take some time for sure in the aqua, those dual coils are just a pain to mount just right.

how about the juice? and im sure you tried cleaning it up real good so that's not it. maybe it is the insulator, I have had mine for many months and never had a bad insulator but that's the only plastic part really. maybe try the credit card trick. did you try not using the plastic tank section and just use the metal section?

Yeah it's weird. My other Russians and kfl are several months old and they vape like a champ no matter what build I go. Brand new juices all taste the same so that's not it either. Funny cos I've actually never heard of anyone's kfl dying. Thing's built like a tank.

As for the steel mid section.............. So I'm one of those guys who will just vape on and on and on until that dreaded wretched burnt cotton taste if I can't see my juice level. I just figured I'll never ever use it, and I gave em all away. Now that you mention it, it COULD possibly be it, although all I ever vape on it are Boba's bounty and HHV's legend. They aren't known to be plastic wreckers. But hmm... That's pretty much the only variable I haven't swapped out.

FWIW, I've vaped many tanks of both of those juices without a problem. Well, I rotate the HHV juices, but Legend is in that rotation and one KFL is devoted to BB. I do have one tank that got cracked by Ahlusion's Cherry Cola, but it still works and I don't taste any plastic.

Still . . . it may be another variable to eliminate - or confirm.

Kayfun Nirvana!
I tried something different tonight. After watching Phil do a review on the squape, I noticed he set his squape up with 28g kanthal wrapped 7 times on a 2.5mm drill bit. (about 1.3ohm coil) Well, I tried it on my Kayfun and was able to use a bigger tuft of cotton through it. Well, so far so good. Vapes great with lots of saturation. Kinda funny when you stop and think about the current trend around here to make coils smaller and smaller and thus using less and less cotton. To me that seems kinda counter intuitive lessening juice quantity/flowage. hmm.. Something to think about next time I guess when sitting on the can. ;-)

Any thoughts from the peanut gallery are always appreciated.

I agree with you on the slightly larger coil sizes. I now do all my coils with a ID of either .075(round toothpick) or .093(3/32). I too think it makes for better wicking.

I agree, too...3/32" for me...I'm not into all of these exotic builds, just want a great vape. I tried a 5/64“ which I run on my Spheroid and Kayfun mini, went back to 3/32" after one tank.

I also have dialed in my preference for 30 gauge wire. Less wraps for the same resistance, less chance to choke the coil with too much cotton, and heats up so much faster than 28 gauge.

3/32 was my preferred size when using cotton balls. I switched back to 5/64 when I switched over to cotton yarn. A single strand of yarn fits perfectly through a 5/64 coil, and is consistent in size every single time. Makes swapping wicks out so easy, that I carry spares for on the go swapping. ;)

Question for the KFL veterans.

I just recently got into RDAs from using carto tanks. I really love them and the vapor production. It was a shock that I had to drop from 18mg to 6mg juice but I have gotten used to it.

I just got a KFL yesterday and made a 1.2 ohm micro-coil 28g and used cotton for the wick. My first coil was 1 ohm 28g micro-coil and I burned the cotton right away. Anyhow, now that I have 1.2 ohm micro-coil and cotton setup like I like it I am confused about a couple of things.

With my RDAs I (Nimbus + IGO-W) I make my coils between .57 and .80 ohms and use them with my mech mod and everything is fine, tons of vapor and flavor. With my Kayfun build (28g micro-coil @ 1.2ohms) I get some vapor but it doesn't seem to be very satisfying at all. I used 6mg juice instead of 18mg juice because that's what the guy at the shop said to do.

Should I go back to 18mg with my KFL? Right now I am scared to use the KFL with my mech mod because of burning the cotton yesterday so I am using my eVic with it @ 10W but it jsut isn't cutting it. I would need to chain vape it to get the same satisfaction I get with my nimbus. Can I put the KFL on my mech mod?

I hope this makes some sense, I am new to the RBAs. I want to like this KFL but at this point I may stick to the RDAs. Thanks in advance!

I'm speaking for myself...going from 18mg to 6mg is a MAJOR difference. If the guy from the shop told me to do that I would tell him to find another line of work because he doesn't know what he's talking about. Go back to your 18mg.

Well I should say he told me to switch from 18mg to 6mg for mt RDAs not the kayfun, I didnt ask him about that. If I drip 18mg in my Nimbus I feel like vomiting. Is it safe to put my kayfun on my mech mod with a 1.2ohm coil and cotton? I just dont want to burn it up at work. Thanks for replying.

Put the 18mg in your KF using cotton on your mech. Folks here do it all the time with no trouble. Wait till you get home though so you are not stranded at work without a vape. For the record, I use 18mg in everything...clearos, bcc's, RBA's/RDA's, Kayfuns, dripping atties, everything.

Good luck.

Very safe. I have 3 mech mods with 18350's. micro coils + cotton. all at 1.2 or less ohms. I only vape 6mg nic fluid in all 3 kayfuns. I do vape pluid 20mg daily in a genny.

They all work great. The kayfuns just keep running and running. Keep your cotton wick wet during build, look for vapdivrr video in this thread. Plus many more on coil, wick set ups.

Q!!!!! thank you again, if it was not for your posts in July, i would not own a Kayfun Lite (3). Now the R91, took a little while to warm up to the air control. But Kayfun attys are great when set up correctly. My R91 was picky were the wick tails sat on the deck. The clear tank & chimney helped resolve that problem.
