I do it clockwise too. While it's true screwing down the screw will shift the coil, doing so with a screw driver still in the coil allows you to get a really tight and firm coil that can be easily realigned without messing up the coil

Yes but see, with the wire on the outside for clockwise, when it heats and expands the wire gets pulled apart, but if it goes under the expansion just squeezes the coil together.

(Actually I don't think it matters, I never pay attention which way it's going, but I'm always up for ruffling Dusty's feathers)

I don't think it matter much either.. But maybe both clockwise or counterclockwise would satisfy the OCD in me..

Jarbs, congrats on your transition to the kfl+ but a couple things to note about your coil.

Picture 1: You may want to squeeze the coils together after firing it, so that there's no hot and cold coils.

Picture 2: The lead from the coil seems to be laying on the deck. You may want to raise that off the deck, again to eliminate any shorts..

Other than that it looks great..

thanks for the tips! it's sitting above the dock. just couldn't get a good angle for it. but it is close. i'll elevate it more on the next go.
i squeezed the coil then hit it with a torch. i'll try firing the coil and then squeezing as well next build.

but it is working amazingly well. flavor is great, air flow is incredible. there's a slight whistle but it is totally negligible.

You did not torch it on the deck did ya? That insulator won't take the heat from a direct torch..

Well, there's also the fact that his right side lead is wrapped counter clockwise while the left one is wrapped correctly, clockwise.

Clockwise better than counterclockwise.. But, we'll leave that for later, once he fixes his coil.

I always wrap my leads counterclockwise so I don't pull the coil wraps apart.

Are you able to get the coil at 90* to the deck when wrapping counterclockwise? That's important to whether I give it a try or not..

THAT. got my first KFL, was so excited that I went brainless and torched the coil on the deck. To this day I still can't figure out why the hell I did that. Needless to say, the insulator take on a very weird shape right after

I'll look next time I have it apart.

Never made any difference to me if it was squared up or at an angle.

Speaking of Indo...have you tried any juice from www.nirvanavapors.com? They have a juice named Kali's Coconut Burfi based on the Indian dessert flavored with cardamom. One of the best juices I have ever had. I just got some samples of their other juices, just starting to sample those.

Awesome name too.. with a great background!

Kali is crafted from striped Macassar Ebony from Indonesia. The 18500 size is a little on the larger size, but it's hard not to notice her when she's in the room.


P.S - Delphi was a wonderful experience during my visit there. Steeped in history.. Athens was pure madness!!
