that makes a lot of sense. i was trying to build it before finishing my coffee.View attachment 305495
make sure your coil is not touching the base, under the screw to the insulated base IE towards second screw.
notice gap on left side of base. lift coil over gap, i slip tweezers in, to create an air gap.
CRSS pretty much solved your issue if the coil is shorting....the ehpro kfl+ and what would cause that? that may be a dumb question....
Question for the flavour experts.
From a flavour perspective running in the 8 - 10watt range, would I get better flavour by running a 1.6 -1.8ohm coil with 28gauge or 30gauge Kanthal?
Voltage set in the 3.8 - 4.0v range.
I believe you are correct. And I've seen some really tiny diameter coils on thick wire. For me, as a "wattage wimp", I would have to wrap such a long coil, it seemed to atomize the juice faster than the wick could carry it. And, since the coil tends to heat from the inside out, the spot that would need the most juice, would have the least.

dusty imo although the 28g coil will have more coverage i think the heat is the deciding factor of the differences because you will still have sufficient coverage with the 30g coil. so it may really depend on the juice your using and how they react to temperature differences. my opinion is that the 28g coil will have better flavor with fruity juices while the 30g coil could be better suited for more tobacco juices. either way though the 28g coil will be more sluggish as you know.
I haven't tried it, but some months ago, user pdib created a flavor gap in the coil that I suspect would help in that situation. This is affectionately known as the "dibby crack"

I'm sure there are many more, but that's what I found in a quick search.

Dusty, I'm only a flavor expert when it comes to my own personal preference, but I'll chime in.
For me, 28ga offers better flavor than 30ga at any watts. I don't notice changes in flavor at different watts as much as others, but I do notice a difference in the impact depending on how much vapor is produced by different watts. 28ga just won't provide enough impact at 8-10 watts for me. 30ga will provide more impact and a better experience to me in that range, but the flavor isn't as good as 28ga at 14+ watts.
If your intent is 8 watts, I would be more concerned about heat up time than flavor. 30ga doesn't offer the flavor I want, but that's because I'm used to the flavor of 28ga so the taste the thinner wire provides feels less full for me. If I got stopped using 28ga and went to 30ga, I would get used to the 30ga because in the end they both provide great flavor. 30ga will give good heat up time in the 8-10 watt range, so I suggest that for you.
28ga heats up at the rate I like on a mech at around 1 ohm, or 14-16 watts. Higher resistance at that gauge has a noticable lag I don't like. Another factor that effects heat up time is the coils diameter. A smaller diameter will heat up quicker and offer the ability to use less watts to provide a satisfying vape. I know you like the larger 2mm diameter coils to use yarn and can almost guarantee a 2mm 1.6-1.8 ohm coil of 28ga in the 8-10 watt range won't be a great vape unless you like a very cool vape.
Thanks for the extended write up, Jerms. I,ll up my levels and lower my ohms to see if I can find a workable solution for me.
I'm also limited partially by the fact that the Provari won't put out more than 3.5 amps. My config is going to have to stay under that safe zone limitation.
I don't intend going to full mech other than on my pipes..

have you put a different atty on there?
to test, the tester....
i'm sure as you were posting that, i was screwing a rebuilt kanger head to my mvp 2 to test that when the ohmmeter said 0.00 and the mvp said 1.6. and it said 3.4 for the nano coil on the kayfun.
yup, my ohmmeter hit the crapper.....
i gave another coil a shot and still getting 0.00. i took some pics to see if you helpful folk could spot any errors.

What ever happened to good ol' multimeters? One device that does a hell of a lot more than just an ohm-meter, and usually more accurate too...?
