Well, some back of the envelope math: If you cut pieces a bit over an inch to make wicks from, and each such piece makes 3-4 wicks; that means a box is good for between 15,000 and 20,000 wicks. Moreover, let's suppose that on average, you re-wick one atty every day... Then the box should last you at least 40 years.

Then should I already tell my wife what I want for my 92nd Birthday? I'll be out of Rayon then. :toast:

Wonderful, atties with juice labels! Wow, I like that!

I think I have heard this before about a b & m store placing a coil parallel to the screws. What's this about?

Perhaps there's another RBT that "likes" parallel coils?? (Yes, parallel, that was the word I was searching for...all I could think of was perpendicular!). I'll mention it to them next time I drop by. They were very open and thankful when I called to report my findings about using less cotton. They know and understand that this is an ever expanding science. Very humble actually. It's great when I remember that I don't have all the answers but I bet someone or a bunch of does.

The terms are interchangeable in my head- when i look at the build deck I see a circle with two screws and a coil.
They (sm) say set it at a 45- I don't see how the direction matters - it's a circle and has 360 degrees lol
Parallel or perpendicular are directional references In my head it's dependent on tr position of the screws when you hold it.
I think of the screws being in north- south direction For some reason so to me I always considered what y'all call parallel I called perpendicular and vice versa.
All I know is I wanted the two coils as close as possible without touching and leaving the airflow hole directly under the space between them.
I do out the dual coil ends running from screw to screw. Like kiwis parallel only mine were placed way higher.
I'm gonna rewrap one tonight and play show off. I'll be bored lol

John Holmes and Linda Lovelace is laughing someplace at the sight of that.

lol.

I'm pretty comfortable with my 18490 device + kayfun nano or standard. even that seems little large, so much so I have a dedicated pocket device when I dont want to be seen wielding lightsaber in public.

I keep my prothingy at 18490 and mechs at 18650 and MVP with a nano top.
I'm looking into a mini provari and/or small DNA device about the size of a vapor shark
I'm digging the small form factor lately.

speaking of cotton width, I just rewicked today. I went with as much cotton that would slide into a 2mm coil without bunching (so pretty thick), trimmed to just touch the bottom deck floor forming an upside down U shape...but then trimmed the hanging wick part thinner. So, the inner wick is thick and the hanging part is thin.

seems to have the same flavor and rush as using less cotton, but with less of dry hits and wicking issues. I guess the thinner cotton is faster in pulling up the juice, but the thicker wick inside the coil retains more juice & receives full coverage of the heating element.

I also run my kayfun duals parallel to screws but a single micro coil definitely perpendicular to screws. The reference, like I mentioned was to the screws, so stating parallel or perpendicular to this is valid. I agree about the circle thing, and if no reference is given, perpendicular and parallel mean nothing

I copied the following info from various posts, thinking it might come in handy.

AWG ....... inside dia. ...... no. of turns ...... ohms
28 ............ 2.1mm .............. 12 ............... 1.8
28 ............ 2.0mm ................ 9 ............... 1.0
28 ............ 1.5mm ............... 10 .............. 1.2
28 ............ 1/16 ................... 11 ............. 1.2
28 ............ 1/16 ................... 11 ............. 1.3
30 ............ 1/16 .................... 8 .............. 1.6
30 ............ 5/64 .................... 6 .............. 1.4
30 ............ 5/64 .................. 10 .............. 2.2
30 ............ 1/16 .................... 8 .............. 1.7
30 ............ 1/16 .................... 9 .............. 1.8
Looking at the 1.5mm coil at 1.2 ohms compared to the 1/16 coil at 1.2 ohms, isn't the 1.5mm coil smaller?

You mean in reference to the blocks that the screws are on?
a8a7agez.jpg

When i see that I see parallel as the ends of tr coil running from screw to screw and perpendicular running lengthwise in the middle of the deck.
I can't think clearly enough to articulate it in print

I always considered this to be
Perpendicular to the screws
vapanu3a.jpg

And this to be parallel
unynahu4.jpg

As I would have my atty turned so the screws as the point of reference ran in a separate direction in my head?
Does that make sense.?
I think I accidentally doubled up on my meds today

IMHO, Your wick is perfect. But your coil is not so perfect on that picture.
If you are trying to make a Micro Coil, you need to squeeze those coils together. You can do it off your device by squeezing them with a pair of tweezers while torching it to glow red-hot. Or on the device by firing it until it glows, releasing your fire button and squeezing them when they are still red-hot. Remember, RELEASING FIRE BUTTON before you squeeze them is the most important operation. If you intentionally left spacing in between the coils, you've got to make sure that your coils are evenly spaced. One more thing: A lot of people, myself included, like to put their wire around the screw in counterclockwise instead of the way you did it on one of your screw. That way, when you tighten the screw, it will not pull your wire and mess up your coil. Just IMHO.

I do micro coils.. But I tried this way in an effort to keep the coil from gunking up too fast and burning the wick. With them pushed together, I could only get a 1/2 to 3/4 tank at most. The way I have it now, I am on my 3rd tank. So, leaving them separated is working for me.

As for clockwise/counter-clockwise.. thats just the old electronics tech in me - always wrap with the screw or it could be pushed out/fall out.

Last coil:

I agree on your direction, the first and second pic is like you described. All I was saying in a previous post was that I never heard of setting up a single micro coil parallel to screws in a kayfun. Duals work this way because they are closer to the channels and each coil wick can have there own juice wells

That's where I got confused .. Between that and somebody said something about having it run counterclockwise; i don't know I'm a bad electrical engineer cause I've never paid that much attention lol
I just try and make sure that the juice can flow and the air can flow through the heat.

Thats how I see it also.. with or across the screws.

I hear you buddy, sometimes we make it more difficult then it really is. As long as the coil is linear to adjacent channels and congruent to posts your good to go.
