I just took a 3mm silica wick and a cotton ball wick 1 1/2" long about the same thickness and stuck them both in water. I stood them both up in carto rubbers half filled. The silica one was totally wet to the top but the cotton one was not. I found that the silica wick absorbed more water than the cotton wick. Anyone else try this?

I would think if this was done using cotton where all the fibers ran the same way like kgd or rayon that the results would be different. In regular cotton the fibers are kind of jumbled and I would think it wicks outwards as well as upwards, this would slow down the process compared to silica where it just transports. Now that I use kgd and rayon, I definitely know it wicks better then regular cotton and because of this I haven't used regular cotton since. now at least for me, even the regular cotton kept up in my kayfuns with never an issue so a comparison to silica was purely a taste and maintenance thing only, and in both I preferred cotton. I thought a property set up micro coil with cvs sterile cotton was just better then a flimsy spaced out silica coil. I just never liked the idea a of dry burning silica.

I like using silica over cotton. I can refill my kayfuns many times before taking them apart for cleaning and dry burn. I always flame my silica wicks before wrapping them and never get any strange flavors.
you think silica doesn't gunk as quickly? I get about 3 tanks on cotton wick

Is the Kayfun Lite or Kayfun Lite + too restrictive for lung hitters?

Everybody I know and the shops I go to all keep telling me that I'd be thrilled with a Kayfun Lite or + but reading the discussions on fasttech there are some that say that it's too restrictive for lung hits. I'm quite pleased to use either my Nautilus or my AeroTank mega with the adjustable air flow open to the largest setting. Anything lower than that and it's uncomfortable for me to vape on a tank.

Would the Kayfun not really be a good choice for me knowing what I've said about using the above mentioned tanks on the largest air opening?

Thanks

I have an EHPro Kayfun Lite+, Kayfun 3.1 clone from FastTech and an AeroTank (original). The draw is tigher on the AeroTank (wide open) than the Kayfun clones. I believe the Kayfun Lite+ v2 is more airy than v1.

Are you referring to the screw-on adapter that lets you use any 510 drip tip? I have one that I no longer use. If that's what you are looking for, PM me your address and I can send it to you.

evcigarettes.com has a lot of parts for clones and others. I also heard of another I think called FatDaddys. Don't quote me on that have to check myself.

cant speak for kayfun clones, but I can tell you that authentic kayfuns are not for lung hitters, even with the airflow open all the way. I have drilled out my kayfuns to 5/64 and even with this, its a borderline lung hitter. I know you can further mod them to even be more open, and if you did, then yes it can be done but you may be potentially ruining the integrity of some parts. now the term lung hitting can in itself be subjective, so its hard to say, but in general kayfuns, imo have a medium to tight draw. now I believe there are certain clones that may be totally different, so I couldn't say.

I primarily use an ehpro KFL+ v2 and a Nautilus, both wide open. My KFL+ is considerably tighter draw. I mouth hit both.

I forget who posted it but as you draw (prime) you press the button breifly on-of, this is supposed to help seve the wick when first building.
I have no idea what seve the wick means (Ševe was a secret police organization of the Ministry of Interior of Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina), but there is certainly no need to do that with cotton or rayon.

Oh ok primer puffs, I do that the first couple times before I actually vape, but I don't fire the mod, I just pull a few times without power, I just feel like it gives a little more saturation before actually firing.

yes primer puffs, they serve to protect the wick.
Just brings up a little juice to get the wicks wet I suppose but I just do it a couple times after a fresh build and without firing the mod. I saturate the wick tails pretty good before assembling, about 3 drops on each and that's after I saturate them before pasting them down the sides, so they are good and juiced, so although I primer puff because it's been a habit, I don't think it makes much of a difference tbh. So your new kayfun is night and day difference to the old one you tossed?

Alrighty, so after an awesome member, PeteMoss, sent me a Russian 91% drip tip adapter, it doesn't fit!?! I have the original Russian 91% V1 (as far as I know) and this adapter is just a tad bit too small and the threads a tad bit too big, maybe this adapter is for the larger russian, or the v2? I have no idea, I am truly stumped. My best bet might to be get a new top cap, this dang part has become so elusive now I run the risk of buying a part that doesn't fit.

If anyone has any advice or info, please let me know, I still need to go back and read the last couple of pages, hopefully there is an answer!

Diver, been messing with Japanese cotton lately. Not long enough to say if it is better/worse than regular cotton but I can say this....it was once popular opinion that one should err on the side of using too little cotton instead of too much. I found that to be wrong. And I find the same thing using Japanese cotton. I can torch the wick using too little cotton but I can't by using too much. The same applies to regular or Japanese...makes no difference in my experience.

I was spinning in circles switching between cotton yarn, organic cotton, japanese cotton and then rayon. They all had to wicked slightly different and I was messing myself up. I finally settled down and decided to tackle them one at a time. Yarn.. no more. OC - Check. I think I finally have Rayon figured out as I've been enjoying my rayon wicked KFL's for the last week or two. Japanese cotton is next..maybe! :)
