Mainly the cotton is lumped, exactly right. I am currently using this build, so far so good, but I'll take a pic and show you what's going on if any issues.
This coil is at 1.3 ohms and I have the zna set to 11.5 watts. Using 28 guage kanthan and vaping 50/50.
By the way, thank you for replying, really appreciate the help all members have shown/given here.

And how about trolls with the Erlk?![]()
Cotton lumped may not be good. Thin the tails a little bit as it might be plugging up the juice channels.
If no burning under the coil, then that part is fine.
11.5W should be ok as well.
The 50/50.. that could be the problem right there. I've not had much luck with the Kayfun builds below 70/30 PG/VG. There are folks that do 50/50 but they are generally using Kayfun versions that have modified and/or deeper juice channels. I've tried 50/50, and it seems to keep up fine for a while, and then the problems start. Usually taking a dry hit or two helps, but I don't like to keep doing that to aid with the wicking.
I find how you put the wick on the deck to be unimportant. The quantity is what matters most. Just make sure it is sitting on the deck. Think of a string mop. Lower it till it touches the surface then lower it a little more till it squishes out a little. The juice will find the wick. Good luck and report back with your results.
Are you using a microcoil?
Adee, here's a pictorial I did awhile back that might be useful.

Check out pbudardos review if the Russian v2.0 he uses a very very simple method to wick. I followed it and built my first micro coil with cotton and got amazing results, not a single dry hit, zero problems
Seems like the cotton amounts are good but kind of hard to tell. For me there is one key that tells you if your running the correct amounts thru coil and it's a sound. next time you get a dry hit listen to the sound of vapirization, it's like a sizzling sound that happens as soon as you let go of fire button (right after you take a vape) this sizzle is normal but how long it sizzles after the button is released is a key. If this afterburn stops within a second of button release that's kind of normal but if it lingers a couple seconds after then most likely there is not enough cotton in coil or juice is not reaching wick tails. The latter usually doesn't happen as much as the first reason. As for a tighter coil, personally I wrap them as tight as possible to begin with, I then wrap about 7 more then I need. I do this because I find the first couple and last couple aren't that great but the middle ones really good, close, and tight. While keeping the coil on the bit, I grab one lead with a tweezer and unwind the first few, or bad wraps (don't hold or do nothing with the other lead), I then take the tweezer and hold the other lead and unwind or pull out some of the bad wraps from that side. Besides pulling or unwinding the bad wraps, this also adds tension to the good wraps making them tighter, if done right this coil will be tight and can't be made any tighter by heating and squeezing. For me the key to a tight wrap to begin with is being able to see the dam thing, this is why I wrap with a magnifying visor.Hi all, I'm doing my second ever recoil and wick. I purchased some japanese cotton, going to give it a try.
Couple issues if you all could help me out please..
Having a hard time getting the coils to touch, keep burning them and then pinching with tweezers but always end up a bit apart.
The most important issue I am having is at this point though. I've seen so many different youtube videos and pics on this thread that I'm getting confused. I trim the coil wire off, kind of fluffed the cotton, and then I put the chimney on, tap cotton down gently and drip the wick. I am having issues with not wicking fast enough and or dry hits.
There seems to be so many different ways to do this, maybe I am making it harder on myself, I don't know.

Not enough cotton in that build. I (we) have been down this road. I use twice that amount of cotton even twisting it up so it gets small enough to fit through the coil. Since I went back to more is better ZERO wicking issues.....
I'll give it a try tonight. When you screw the cylinder cover on, how close to the top of it are you cutting the ends of the wick? Also, are you tapping it down onto the deck after? Thanks
Don't want to horn in on Dr. mgmrick, but in case he's incapacitated....leave maybe an 1/8th inch above the cylinder. Then just poke it down the sides. Don't need to get overly cute.
Sorry I was taking pictures and then uploading to my email then to ecf...internet as usual real slow....ugh
Yes sometimes people are trying to be cute with these kayfuns. They are a real simple device that is very forgiving. Try to squeeze your coils together but if there's little gaps no biggie. Use enough cotton and then tail down to the deck. Unblock the channels or don't really does not make that much difference. Only thing I find if I use too much cotton first 5-10 vapes gives off a cotton taste but it goes away no biggie. Takes a good 20 vapes to be broke in for max vape....
I don't like to horn in on someone helping a new guy. I believe toomany cooks in the kitchen spoils the meal (or however that goes). At the same time, you don't know if the cook left the kitchen for the night either so you hate to leave a guy hanging. Agree...the Kayfun is far less finicky than what it was made out for many months following its release.

Before someone chimes in here and says less is better works for me.... Yes you can use less cotton but it requires alot more work and more perfection on your setup. Why bother .... set your coil up squeeze it together the best you can roll up a chunk of cotton thread it through your wick. Wet it down with a few drops of juice put it together fill her up and vape on...
