A very nice lady had a great idea for a new thread......so here it is! A thread for support, motivation and to keep ourselves in check. Even if you only need to get more exercise and eat healthier we can help each other.

Thank you toto1013!!

My New Year's resolution is to lose weight. I want to hear what you do to lose weight and what exercise you do that helps you do that.

My start date is January 9th. My first goal is to lose 15lbs. No way am I saying how much I weigh

What's your goal?

So, maybe trying delaying. Say, I can have this, but let me do something else first. Then, afterward, if you still want it take only half. For me, saying "i can't have it" makes me cranky, annoyed and oppositional- and i feel deprived and want it more. The other thing that, for me, makes a real difference is activity level. My cravings change when I'm active- the voice of chocolate is not quite as loud then ;)

What if instead of eating something bad we replace with something healthy ( i.e carrots, apples, yogurt etc.) then we can share ideas, tips and recipes. So we can stay satisfied while being healthy. :)

Recipes are good!

But the chocolate is always yelling my name

Yeah I find when you exercize your mind gets into the eating healthy mode, like *well I don't wanna ruin all that hard work now with the super sized milky way bar  *

I have found that buying the bite size 3 Musketeers bars and allowing myself one when I had the urge for chocolate worked really well. And not every five minutes at the most one a day. Depriving myself always seems to make the craving that much stronger.

I would be interested in participating in a get fit support group. My problem isn't food it's getting active. I have a torn knee that was only partially fixed by surgery. I take stairs one at a time. I can't stand for long periods and pretty much live in pain most of the time. I try my best to be active but it's hard with the pain. I use to run. I love it. I had a treadmill and the high I got from running was awesome. It improved my mood so much. Food is not a problem for me, I've never been a big eater. Anyways I have a wii fit that has some activities on it that are pretty good for low impact. Do any of you use a wii fit? Does anyone else have health issues that prevent you from being as active as you once were? Has anyone seen the show "sit and be fit" I use to think it was lame, but now I would love to do those exercises. I will never think something like that is lame again. I will never again take for granted health. I would love to hop up the stairs lickity split. I tore my knee because I slipped getting out of the bathtub. That one second mistake has changed my whole life. Be careful. Bathtubs are evil.

I don't have a wii- trying to use it would make the beasties crazy. The interfere if they're inside when i do situps. (hard to do a sit up into a cold nose and doogy breath- eeeww).

The sit and be fit sounds like a good idea- low impact would probably be a good way for most of us to get started again. (mean bathtub!!)

I have a wii fit but amost never use it. I heard great things about x-box kinnect. I too have health issues. I have a major back probem. I have a condition called spondylolthesis. It means my l5 is slipped to far forward. Mine is 76% off. It crushes my nerves and causes back pain and leg pain and numbness.

I use to love to be ative. I was in love with thai boxing and would be at the gym 6 days a week for many hours a day. Now I can't even walk a 3 blocks with out major pain. Since working out is hard for me. I just need to work on eating healthy. I gained weight from my back problem. Plus I need to get the weight off because it is easier on my back

Yay! Thanks toto for the great idea and thanks to fudgey for putting it in action!:)
I will post some goals and plans later but my first tip...Calorie Counter | Free Online Diet Program | Nutrition Data I love this Calorie counter! I have gained back this year with an unexpected pregnancy and unfortunately a subsequent miscarriage that sent my weight sky high. But all that aside now and onto a happy healthy me!

For motivation I read at videofitness.com

They have general topics, reviews of videos, and a recipe book area, with some links and suggestions on healthier eating - among others. Lots of great suggestions there. I actually get some videos, but for those with wonky knees, look for any suggestions on those. I have a bad one now too, so I have to modify moves, or get some older standard workouts. Start out just 10 minutes a day for one week, next week 15 minutes a day, and so on. Also, remind yourself when say ironing clothes you can do a couple of plies or squats, pick up a dumb bell on the way to the bathroom and lift, you get the idea. A little at a time leads to a lot more.

I just love food, ALL food, at middle age my body does not. :(

CES has dogs? I use to. Love them to death. I found "sit and be fit" on youtube. So we could do some of those! I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner. Sometimes I forget how easy it is to find what you need now days.

Oh Classwife, e don't feel guilty. If we are here together and we start slow and make those baby steps I think it would be fun! I'm not starting today. And I'm not feeling guilty. Besides that it's the holidays! And they only come once a year. So I'm going to party. lol To me that means eat some good yummies and watch movies with my love.

jacquelyn I havent used mine much either. And it's time I did. I like how it weighs you and charts your progress. Some of the things I can't do but some I can. I think I will dust mine off and start on Monday. Want to be my buddy???? If you're hurting like me sounds like we would be good partners. Are there any of the exercises that don't hurt as much? I mean can you do any of them? I know for me the hulahoop is one I can't do anymore. The rotation motion just kills me. But I can do the bike riding one where you just sorta walk in place. If I can get off ecf then I'm set. Sorry about your back. I feel for you. I really do.

Oh thank you Amanda. That is awesome. I like how it tells you how many calories activities use. I had to laugh at this one. Sitting on the toilet uses 68 calories an hour! I spend time there. ROFL!

Thank you so much ladies for having me here. I love the ladies room and my mood has improved! You are all very sweet and I'm really excited about this lets get healthy thing. Even if I hardly get moving at least I'll be motivated to do so!
