Thank you so much Fudgey for setting this up. I need to get exercise and eat healthier, and look forward to the support and help with motivation here. It helps if one has to be accountable once in awhile.

There is no reason why if we can quit smoking that we can not exercise at least some and eat healthier.

For motivation I read at videofitness.com

They have general topics, reviews of videos, and a recipe book area, with some links and suggestions on healthier eating - among others. Lots of great suggestions there. I actually get some videos, but for those with wonky knees, look for any suggestions on those. I have a bad one now too, so I have to modify moves, or get some older standard workouts. Start out just 10 minutes a day for one week, next week 15 minutes a day, and so on. Also, remind yourself when say ironing clothes you can do a couple of plies or squats, pick up a dumb bell on the way to the bathroom and lift, you get the idea. A little at a time leads to a lot more.

I just love food, ALL food, at middle age my body does not. :(

Great ideas....thanks!! Welcome to The Women's Room :) ps.....I can't tell from your post, avi or user name if you are a lady?

CES has dogs? I use to. Love them to death. I found "sit and be fit" on youtube. So we could do some of those! I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner. Sometimes I forget how easy it is to find what you need now days.

Oh Classwife, e don't feel guilty. If we are here together and we start slow and make those baby steps I think it would be fun! I'm not starting today. And I'm not feeling guilty. Besides that it's the holidays! And they only come once a year. So I'm going to party. lol To me that means eat some good yummies and watch movies with my love.

jacquelyn I havent used mine much either. And it's time I did. I like how it weighs you and charts your progress. Some of the things I can't do but some I can. I think I will dust mine off and start on Monday. Want to be my buddy???? If you're hurting like me sounds like we would be good partners. Are there any of the exercises that don't hurt as much? I mean can you do any of them? I know for me the hulahoop is one I can't do anymore. The rotation motion just kills me. But I can do the bike riding one where you just sorta walk in place. If I can get off ecf then I'm set. Sorry about your back. I feel for you. I really do.

Oh thank you Amanda. That is awesome. I like how it tells you how many calories activities use. I had to laugh at this one. Sitting on the toilet uses 68 calories an hour! I spend time there. ROFL!

Thank you so much ladies for having me here. I love the ladies room and my mood has improved! You are all very sweet and I'm really excited about this lets get healthy thing. Even if I hardly get moving at least I'll be motivated to do so!

This makes me smile!!!

No....thank you for the wonderful idea!! This is helping me already!!! It is hard for me to be accountable to myself most of the time. DH doesn't help by cooking all that yummy food either  He has been warned

I'm a lady, lol! :p

Here are two of my crappy new ideas for New Year healthier eating.

Night snack:

1/4 cup of popcorn kernels in a brown paper lunch bag. Fold top of bag over slightly twice. Microwave for 2 to 3 minutes depending on you microwave. It will not pop out, but watch for burning the first few bags until you get the time right. You can then spray with cooking spray and sprinkle with garlic salt, just salt, or Parmesan cheese. (I actually like to use butter flavor spray, spray it right on the kernels in the bag and sprinkle with salt. Just put a paper towel under bag in microwave. Tastes like you popped in the pot. :pop:) This can also be transferred to ziploc bag for work snack, my biggest problem - healthy work snacks and lunches at a desk job. Forget carrot sticks and celery. Yuck!

Since I only cook on weekends, this may not appeal to many.

I use egg whites, or egg substitute, chopped spinach or broccoli, put in no stick pan. Bake at 350F. When almost done add some caraway seeds and a little cheddar cheese. For some reason caraway and cheddar are slightly reminiscent of sausage, but no cigar! Let cheese melt. Transfer to plate and slice for morning microwaving for about 30 seconds for a very quick breakfast. I don't have a blender so I can't do smoothies, nor afford all the fruit for daily use, or time to wash the thing out!

I'm game too! I'm sort of like a few of you... one surgery after another for shoulder, knee, and crushed foot bones. I am signed up for Zumba but it just about kills my foot -- think some nerve damage occurred during the surgery : ( I am determined though to forge on ahead. Exercise does work -- lost weight walking before the knee deal. 45 min - 1 hr/day at a brisk pace will take it off. Zumba is also free on tv. Recipes sound great. One thing I learned when watching my weight before was grill everything we could and cut back on the beef. ARGH!!!! I love beef! Instead of baked potatoes with sour cream, butter and cheese we would slice the potatoes and cook them on the grill. A little pepper and salt and we were good to go. It is hard getting back into that habit. I also like grilled veggie dinners but DH not so much and he is the one who does all the cooking.

Afternoon ladies, what a great thread! Don't behead me for what I am about to say-lol. In the past 8 weeks I have lost 18.5 lbs.
How? I took every bit of bread, flour and sugar I could find and called my step (bonus) daughter to come get it. Removed all potatoes, salt, corn, peas, onions…..starch/sweet for 4 weeks. I have been eating the SouthBeach way. I extended my time for phase one and tip toe into phase two every now and then. It hasn't been too terribly hard as I like a lot of the types of food I get to eat and no calorie counting or portion control-I love to eat, always have. One of my favorite places to go is a gentleman's restaurant and order up a big steak and potato and proceed to out eat the men at the table-lmao!

I have found a way to have tacos in a healthier way-since I can't have the tortilla/shell. I get shredded romano/asagio/parmesan cheese and put a thin layer in a non stick skillet and when it melts, flip and then I hang it on a whisk handle to form a shell. This cheese is the less saltiest and it flips and melts better than anything else I have found. You can also do this much smaller and lay them flat and break apart for chip snacks! I make my own salsa and use a small amount of shallots and replace the tomato with roasted red peppers (in the jar). I fry up ground turkey, but season it with Emeril's original essence, chili powder, cocoa pepper powder, smoked paprika and a couple jalapenos. Let the meat alone to darken real good (this gives it a really good texture and taste) turn and do again. Break it up once done.

I traded sugar in my coffee for Sweetleaf and after the 3rd day was ok with the change. We can have egg custards for desert and I get to use my DIY flavorings in them!!! Also a ricotta cheese desert is included with 3 crumbled chocolate chips. I cheat and do four, I mean come on, it's chocolate-lol.

All sandwiches are rolled in the lettuce-no breads.

Of course by losing weight quickly I have messed up that time of the month-ugh.
I have now added the treadmill into the equation. Twenty minutes at a comfortable speed for now.

I read through this forum for ideas:http://southbeach-diet-plan.com/

Okay, I'll give the ground turkey a try your way. I tried meatballs with it once, not so good. Tasted like cardboard even with all the spices I added. Then dumped them in some soup for fake Italian Wedding Soup. Even that didn't help them. Oh, just hit me, it was ground turkey breast. Ground turkey has some good parts in it doesn't it? Now I know why it was $1.99 for 2lbs!

Don't do the breast-it dries out to quickly :(

HzG8rGrl......That's awesome congrats!!!! No way I could give up my potato's or bread......more power to you for it!!! The tacos sound good :) You have to cheat with chocolate....hehehehe.

But you can-each phase is for a short period of time and these foods get phased back in in limited quantities! If I can do this-you can do it too!

I'm with you Fudgey on the starches, I love them, don't know if I could do it, but many have had success. HzG8rGrl is just one of millions! But, I would go back to them you see. Especially in the winter time, mashed potatoes and gravy, potato soup, I'll stop there. I must find the will power to try!

Found this healthy recipe for brownies since you like chocolate. I have not tried them though:

I'm the same way Fudgey. Especially when I come home from work. Don't hand me a bag of chips. All will be gone.

I'm going to work on cutting out some things and forcing myself to exercise a few minutes every night, no matter how unmotivated I am. I will feel better about myself. No DH to help enforce it here, so I am on my own. I keep trying, and keep stopping! Got to just get going until healthy life is a new addiction.

i'm so excited about this forum that i've been all over it the past few days and hope that you all don't mind if i join you here as well. my name is roni. i lost 40 lbs last year and regained 10. my partner lost 90 and regained 15. we are planning on starting again with purpose this next week. :) i would love to talk with others trying to improve their health and lose weight in the process. i like spark people, but since i can't access the community from my phone, i tend to slack on that site too heh.

sometimes, transitioning our foods is like transitioning from analogs to vaping. you can use the ground turkey [and yes, you want to use breast cuz it's the leanest] to replace a percentage of the ground beef that you would use in recipes. start small like 1/4 the first few times and slowly increase :) hope that helps
this year, i actually switched from reg mt dew to diet [which i swore that i would never do!] but i got tired of drinking more than the caloric intake i should get daily just in my drinks. i transitioned it the same as i described the turkey above. now, when i drink a regular one, it's still ooOOOOOoo so good but wayy sweet.

HzG8rGrl that's fantastic!! It's not something I'd be willing to do- I don't eat much meat, and get very mean without carbs. I love substituting the ceese for torilla shells and chips though. Cheese is one of my staple foods.

Hi Dandilionwings/Roni! Welcome!!! Glad you decided to join us here:)

Transitioning and changing lifestyle makes the most sense to me, cause small changes that add up over time is what tends to work for me.

My activity or the past couple of day shas been doing stuff around the house- but it was strenuous enough that i think it counts :)
