I tried to start running again this summer with my freshman daughter. She was getting in shape for fall sports, and I decided I needed to try and get my .... in gear...it was horrific. I huffed and puffed with each lap and got so frustrated. I cannot wait until the weather warms up to try again! I have so much energy and am breathing so much better. I quit smoking...how hard can running be!?? Until then, I'm starting tomorrow with a circuit routine I used to do at home before life got in the way. I made the resolution this year to improve my health, one step at a time. Quitting smoking was the first and most vital step to me. Now to get my bum in gear and get to moving!

awesome !!! I started off with 15 minute walks it was all I could do, then kept adding time and distance, when I started to try to run after being so successful getting up to 5 and 10 mile walks in 3 months.. I couldn't build up running past a mile or two.. I started strength training , huge difference as my core kept my body strong and my joints Knees, ankles no longer felt they they were loose and about to give way.. So a combination of endurance from the walking and strength holding my body firm and solid .. the training for running progressed easily.. Don't get frustrated at yourself ,, find the level your at and build the foundation strong... excited for you,, I love running and can't wait for the weather to warm up too..

Great thread and just say GO FOR IT !!! I started my fitness journey late 2009 after an accident that left me inactive for 2 years, was able to regain everything I lost mobility, strength and endurance steadily over time to move on to new challenges and lose 50lbs. and it was all about getting moving,, eating better and just being consistent for the long haul. Never gained it back. So I say keep it simple, do as what has already been suggested "do what you love" because any moving makes a difference in your day. look forward to share everyones journey ...

Thanks :) no one more surprised then me for the total never ending results from just a 15 minute walk on a whim one day curious to see what I could do. So passionate to want everyone to believe, to know they can make changes and get results no matter where they starting from. I was premeno had the gut belly thing going the dreaded over 40 thing going,, and my body still responded with consistency. 48 now looking so forward to how awesome and stronger I will be when I hit 50... lol I know too happy lol,, just don't want people to feed into the limitations that are advertised as truth to sell products... Just think of it this way... OUR Bodies don't slow down because we age,, We slow down as we age... HUGS lite a fire for yourself and those around you .. and Go!!!

Amazon.com: Inov-8 Bare-XF 260 Shoe,Kettle Camo/Grey,9.5 M US: Shoes

these are on their way :) am a barefoot running but I am trying to find "something" that is very lite and flexible to be able to go off trail. Catus needles get blown around so I need a hard bottom for protection.. Hate shoes they really bother me so I hope these shoes after many wont work attempts over the years will ,,

I thought alot about the vibrams, do ok running barefoot on surfaces, even rocks don't bother me when you step like a cat instead of plopping your feet down. it was about finding a more solid barrier for those catus needles lol .. Thought several times a I could run between catus areas but guess the wind out here blows them everywhere... Tried some other brands of these types of shoes but found them still too stiff for front foot running.. This design has a cut in the sole for front foot running.. so am hoping... Am walk/running the Florida cost line for a 267 mile trek to start.. it's virtual on paper lol .. but fun focus for me and the dogs :) Ra is my current go to walk to run partner.. we are 44 miles so far How is everyone else doing !!!! What the Bikini plan :)

shoes arrived today (nasty icywind snow :( ) but love the shoes by far the most flexible lite pair of barefoot shoes I've tried so far,, feel good these are going to work well. I have some extra room at the toes, might of been able to go 1/2 size smaller, but I don't think it's going to bother me feels comfortable every where else with and without thin ankle socks. If the side blowing wind with biting snows stops,, I'm going running lol ... tried to condition my bare feet in the snow last year lol lol .. that last about 5 steps lol lol ....:)

Who's up for a 30 day focus Challenge for the Month of March !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad the shoes arrived Patricia- they sound great.

I'm not quite sure i know what a focus challenge is, so i have no idea whether i'm up for one or not. ;) These days my choices are between exercise or getting enough sleep, or not stopping by ECF in the morning ...i just hope that walking the couple blocks from parking to my office is enough for now.

barefoot in the snow? brrrrrr

Great CES :) Have you ever thought about just standing , lets say like standing in line , in the checkout line you could burn 30 calories.. Now add Standing in line, shifting your weight moving around talking on your cell phone is about 60 calories burned for the same time. We are all active every day in more ways then we realize we are. It just being more mindful about it to extend the effort every opportunity during the day to add more calories burned in the simple activities we already do.

My Friend Alice she lives on a ranch has horses to train, hay and feed stuff to move around, kids to keep up with, but over a few years she gained 45lbs on a frame that was already 30lbs over her weight goal. We talked about her day and found that between 2 and 4pm every day she had free time, where she stopped her daily ranch stuff and waited for the kids to be on their way to the main gate getting off of school.. During that time she would munch over 1K calories without thinking about it passing the time. and then Her husband most days of the week would bring home fast food for dinner on his way back from work. She wasn't interested in doing a focused workout program that you can buy. (she worked hard every day on the ranch already and was still gaining weight)

In one month being more mindful about how much she was moving around ($5.00 pedometer from Wally mart and they have more apps for out phones now) and fixing that 2 to 4pm bad eating time frame added activities (ate a better breakfast and lunch, added a protein shake, or snack that was protein with fiber and hubby bringing home subway if he was going to do fast food, she lost her first 20lbs.. She got more done in a day and found more ways to be active longer doing things that really needed to be done anyway.

her 30 day challenge was about being more aware of her behaviors and tracking her day to day activity of moving. Love the tracking tools like a simple pedometer you can't help to want to match or outdo yourself as you go along.

Nothing fancy or extreme but being focused and more mindful of your activity and what your eating.. A lot of people don't eat enough if your under 1200 cals or filling yourself up with empty cals, your not helping yourself.. So I know everyone here in 30 days can feel better, feel stronger, last longer with more energy with challenging themselves to be focused for 30 days on small changes..

just an example, is Alice started walking to and from her horse area, and then she started to jog and now she loves to walk and run with her kids several days a week. because of some small changes for 30 days she felt better to try more challenges.

Anything goes for your 30 day focus challenge I personally think being more aware of what you are already doing is a great place to get started.
