Using a LavaTube with a 2.5ohm Cartomizer. I did check the ohm on the cartomizer with a multimeter and it meters exactly 2.5ohm resistance. When I try to push the voltage above about 4.1 volts, the unit resets itself to 3 volts. At that point i have to adjust the voltage back up to something below 4.1 volts. I get this result with multiple cartomizers.

Is this normal? I thought it would automatically output a lower voltage, below your current voltage but not all the way down, but keep(display) the higher voltage setting. Or is something wrong with the unit.

This reviewer goes over the 3volt issue in detail. LavaTube - YouTube
No, that reviewer does not go over the issue of the Lavatube display window showing that the Lavatube has arbitrarily reset itself to 3.0v. She is describing what the Lavatube does when it detects what it thinks is too much load. This is a different issue concerning Lavatube malfunction which some folks (including me) have encountered.

In my case, the Lavatube was working great, no issues at all, I love the thing. I was not using dual-carto's, so I did not run into what the reviewer was talking about. Then, 2 days ago, things changed. Now, the thing resets itself to 3.0v nearly every time I try to use it. (Note: the Lavatube resetting the voltage display to read 3.0 has nothing to do with what the reviewer was talking about.)

Yes, I have stretched the spring back out. Yes, I have noaloxed it. Yes, I have ensured the cap is on tight. Yes, I have tried different batteries (6 AW IMR 18650's). Yes, I have tried different carto's (numerous Boge's, 2.0 and 3.0, numerous CE2's, 2.4-2.6, 2.6-2.8, and 2.8-3.0). Not sure which part of the Lavatube is causing this but it is a Lavatube malfunction, it is not normal Lavatube behavior nor is it some flaw or mismatch in the batteries or carto's being used.

OP here. I did finally place a CS ticket with Volcano and they quickly replaced the unit as defective. The unit was resetting itself to 3v when using a carto that pushed the unit above its limit. Instead of limiting voltage to match the installed carto the unit was reacting as if there was a power loss. My new replacement unit works as advertised and i am happy with it's performance.

My advice would be to place a ticket with your vendor for a defective unit.

Interesting to read this as my LT re-set itself to 3 v a few times yesterday, but no problems since I changed the battery (which was not fully run down). Maybe I just hadn't got it tightened enough and maybe I need to check the spring - will keep an eye on this in case there is a defect. Thanks for the heads up.
