I looked at Todd's video that X linked us to. So I decided to make me a micro coil using 30 ga Kanthal. No problem doing that. I fed through four strands of 1mm silica. Now I just need to hook it up to the Kayfun.

What is the best way to drain a tankful of juice from this thing so I can change out the wick?

Seal the airhole and fill valve with your fingers, open the top cap and pour your juice out...

Really really hoping that my 30gauge and Ekowool get delivered to me today. I've taken the next week off work, and am hoping to play with Microcoils and Ekowool in some of my Gennies and the K-Lite.

Here's status as of this morning: 2013/09/13 05:43 TORONTO Item processed at local delivery facility

Now, I'm hoping to see that status change to, Out for delivery.. * fingers crossed *

Good luck.

On the K-Lite, you can use a 16 gauge syringe to draw all the juice out the bottom fill hole. As long as the needle is blunt tip and thin enough to travel the length of the tank, it's the best way. The full size Kayfun is trickier. I close the air control valve, open the top and use a syringe. You just need to keep tilting to get all the juice toward the needle tip in the latter case.

Worked good X. Thanks!

BTW, The Kayfun Lite holds a solid 4.0 mls of juice. Perhaps a little more. I like it!!!

What are you planning on putting in the second lite because you know your getting one :)
Shadow is permanently in mine like df will be in yours.

LOL!! Are you suggesting I'm weak like you?

One is gonna have to do it for me...for awhile anyway. I'll bet that Shadow lights up it the Kayfun!

This is my preferred method.. It's just as easy to fill it back up after re-coiling. ;)

Switched from 3/4, Kanthal 32, cotton to 10-wrap micro coil, Kanthal 30, silica.

I believe this might be the easiest rebuild I've had. Anything works.

What did the 10 wrap 30 get you in ohms? What did you wrap it around?

It got me 1.8ohms Dust. I wrapped it around a medium sized jewelers screwdriver shank, pressed it together with needle nose and roasted it a couple/few times to be sure the coil was contiguous. The shank measured 1.95mm. I doubled up some 1mm silica and fish wired it through the coil using a piece of Kanthal (I grabbed the piece of wick at the center). That means I doubled over a double piece making 4 strands through the coil. It was slightly tight and I was worried I would pinch off the wicking. But it is hitting just fine. I will use a slightly larger shank next time just for insurance. But first time through is a little bit of a crapshoot. However, it is working just fine.

I've seen several ways to make micro coils...all very similar. The vid from Todd that X posted a little earlier on this thread works just fine.

Every time I go to home depot I forget to get noalox. Every other hardware store I've gone to has no idea what it is. Finally I remembered!!
Feel like my mods are hitting much freaking harder now. Might be real and it might not. Either way I'm happy.

If I was weak I'd have a third. The other two were paid for by selling mods.

Package has been delivered. The 2mm Ekowool looks like something I could use in most of my builds. The 3mm Ekowool is HUGE! and the 30gauge Kanthal is not much thicker than the 32gauge that I have. For some reason I was expecting it to be thicker wire..

The 30 is nearly half the resistance of 32 I believe.

Yeah... there's something to this microcoil thing. :) I needed to redo my Octopus and I figured I'd give MC/Cotton a try. 10 wrap 28g wire (on a 3/32 screw) that came out to 1.6ohms (might bump it to 12 wraps next time... there's some space). And the cotton ball wick took care of the whole issue of tank coverage.... got a big ol' juicy poof of gooey looking cotton sitting in there now and its SOOOO easy to rewick the thing with fresh cotton.. that alone makes it a worthwhile bit of kit.

Hazzah! I was a big surprised at the performance. The MC coil throws off a ton of vapor and it gives a clean, full flavored vape. I am getting a lot of that cinnamon spice now, very nice indeed. I am keeping the watts between 7-8 and that cotton holds up. I just have to get a feel for the juice level. Problem is that it's hard to see how saturated that wick is with the Octopus without pulling the bell (which is REALLY hard to do on the one I have)... and overfilling causes a drip or two to make its way to the bottom hole (an issue that should be gone with either the Squid or the IGO-l). I might just have to bite the bullet and vape it until the wick gets fried so I can calibrate how much I need to drip. Which isn't a big deal since it takes all of two minutes to slide some more cotton in there.

I have a IGO-l and mini RDA (Squid) on the way and a MC/C will find a home in both. Both don't have the bottom hole of the Octopus AND... wait for it .... a drip well! :) Much as I like the Octopus, the lack of a drip well added to the fact that it has a hole (albeit with a little chimney) means that if there is loose juice, it might work its way out.

Heh... it's like a battle... I got my top fuel dragster K100/KSST sucking up gallons of Legend and the Octo sipping its way through my dwindling supply of Cinful Apple.. hopefully that holds out until the order I just put in gets here. :)
