Not talking resistance, General. I was referring to thickness (size) of the wire.

I know. :) I see/feel a noticeable difference.

Here's what my digital caliper says:

Kanthal 32 ga. = 0.20mm (.008")
Kanthal 30 ga. = 0.27mm (.011")

EDIT: For the record...30 gauge has 82% more area than 32 gauge (cross section). I'm guessing (but could be wrong) that resistance is proportional.

Hmm.. I guess I'll have to wait until I unwrap before I can tell the difference..

Thank you for the technical details. :)

Do you think you might have been sent the wrong gauge?

Look up the spec for those two gauges Dust. Maybe I'll see what I can find too. I've seen it a million times but can't remember.

Question. I normally use cotton (peaches and cream) which never has an aftertaste and today I used an actual cotton ball. Does the after taste go away? I Dont boil or clean. Just used 1/4 the cotton ball to make my wick. There is a definite aftertaste and I can deal with it as long as it'll go away.

I don't know why I even attempted it, but my first micro oil was a fail. Tried to rush through it while Chloe was doing something and it fell apart on me. Will attempt again at a more leisurely pace.

I just did a very tight 5/6 wrap almost touching with 28 gauge. Came out to 1 ohm and perfect as far as firing. My coil from this morning i ruined pulling the wick out. It was complete nastiness. I honestly think I've been using that coil for weeks and weeks.

Chloe and coils don't mix. :)

I think I'd rather have Chloe crawling all over me than make a coil anyway.

Ok, getting a little frustrated here. Waited until little miss was asleep, and sat down and put the coil below together. Pulses well, fires well, wanna take a guess at what it ohm'd out? 3 OHMS!!

How is that possible? What am I doing wrong here? I wrapped it around a micro screwdriver that is around 2mm in size. Or did I not receive 30g Kanthal?

General does your 30g coil look like that?

That coil looks awesome. That gauge has to be wrong though for such a high ohms right?
How many wrap dusty?

I know right?! It's a 9/10 wrap of 30g. Pretty sure.. Let me see if I can zoom in on the coil and count it better.

A 10/11 wrap of 28 around a 2mm gives me 1.5 ohms

Either use less wraps or wrap it around something a little thinner

Yeah, I think I'm going to need to go thinner.

Dust....looks right to me...best I can tell from a photo. Do you have a caliper to measure that wire? At 3 ohms it would seem you got 32 or 34 ga. Yes, I had 10 wraps of 30ga. Your coils look squeezed together and all.

Digital calipers next on the pick-up list. It seems like it's a requirement if I'm going to continue doing this stuff.

I did sign up for the Microcoils thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/rebuildable-atomizer-systems/416271-micro-coils-increase-vapor-flavor-th.html where I found our usual suspects from the Natural Tobacco thread (Jerms, Johni, etc..) and the concensus was that I used too large a wrapping element to build my first coil.

The coil itself is good, and amounts to the right ohms for it's size. I just have to use a smaller screwdriver or drill bit to wrap the coils.

I've got 1/16 and 5/64 drill bits at my disposal and will attempt to coil on those instead.
