I boil my cotton wick first. For 15 minutes. Then let it air dry.

Same problem with Kanger's T2's that goes back a long ways. Don't know why Kanger cannot correct that problem.
You absolutely MUST boil Ekowool brfore you use it. It has a very funky taste otherwise. I boiled mine in bulk twice and let it hang dry. All good. If you torch Eko, it stiffens it, making it easier to wrap or place over cable wicks. Torching is a good practice too, but boiling is necessary.
I have a cotton ball wick going in the Kayfun now and at first I had a cottony taste. I wonder if I boil it I can take that away. Yarn I don't boil and that is fine.

Just received the 2mm and 3mm ekowool last week with the 32 (masquerading as 30) wire. It had a sticker to either torch or wash before use. I've been torching. I "think" I detect a slight taste from it, but it's not offensive. Will try boiling as well.
XFoo, how do you prevent the ekowool from unraveling when boiling? I noticed that it starts to fray almost immediately upon cutting. Torching ofcourse stiffens it up, but do you torch first, and then boil? What's the process?
The 3mm torched seems to be working fine on the RSST right now although it does seem to need more heat to fire it and make clouds. Not sure if that's just due to the thickness of the wick under the coil. I think I'll leave the 3mm for the Drippers and use 2mm on the RSST's and AGA-T+
Not the wick. But I torch the coil just to take the springiness out of it. Then again when I'm making a micro coil. I haven't used ekowool but never heard it accused of lacking flavor.
I boil all the Eko at once. Tie off the end with a bit of kanthal so it doesn't unravel. You don't need to torch the Eko until you plan on using it, and sometimes it's better not to if you want it to stay supple (like in a Kayfun). As for using it as a diaper over cable wicks, torch it before you slip it over the wick. Use a longer length than you need because the shorter you cut the Eko, the greater the tendency it has to unravel. use this method:
All this talk makes me really want to stick with yarnboiling and torching. Ain't nobody got time fo that.

How often do you change your micro cotton coil? or you just replace the cotton and leave the coil?
