Bronze... I KNOW it's a nice bit of kit... And I am sure if I had one, I'd love it....

But crap in a can... it's still expensive! :) device-wise, I am finally almost finished with the 'need' stage (need another mech I think). Now the 'need' is building up my juices.... once I get a nice horde of juice (getting close... some more HHV vapemail coming tomorrow), then I can move on to the 'want' stage. Then I can think about all those neat little toys I've had my eye on... a kayfun/Russian... a Reo.... etc.

You're a bad influence. :)

Then put a moratorium on vape spending. Myself and others do all the time. In fact, (it's almost needless to say), I'm back on a moratorium after spend $105 on the KFL. :)

Thanks,
I'll try that Bronze, but I'll have to wait. I have some 32g kanthal and silica on hand, however, my order of a roll of 30g and about 24 ft of silica won't be be here for a month or more as I had to mail it to my S.I.L.'s place. Amazon.com wouldn't ship silica overseas for some reason. Anyways, it'll be a while for that camel to get here. I'll make do with a normal coil and silica wrap till then.

In other news, the new 70/30 18mg HHV juices are kicking my ..... Not used to that blend - the TH is tearing my throat up even with all the water I've been drinking.

You can use the 32ga and reduce your micro-coil to 8 wraps.

Thanks for attempting to help me out, Xfoo. I'll try to be more specific so you can narrow down my choices more easily.

The clearos I want to re-wick are top coil and use long wicks. The first batch I bought had very absorbent wicks that unfortunately shredded a bit. The best part about them was that after filling them with just a few drops, the juice would quickly shoot up the wicks and reach the coil in about one second. Subsequent batches changed the wicks to stronger ones. These particular ones take forever to absorb the juice, resulting in dry hits at times.

Should I buy the ones that you first suggested, or can you think of a better alternative to suit my needs? I don't mind if I have to pay a little extra for quality.

I don't have your setup and I haven't witnessed such drastic differences in wicking ability. Unless someone has a definitive answer for you, your best bet is to experiment. I'm sure there is a forum dedicated to top coil clearos. Perhaps you should browse there and ask.

I have heard very good things about this wick. There are many different types on eBay, so you can search "silica wick" there too. Good luck.

Getting closer... it's the juice thing currently. I have enough hardware to hold me for awhile... but juice is another story. Need a warchest of a few juices, so I can just buy small bottles from all over the place and not worry about my basics.

Those HHV 50s get pricey when you buy 3/4 at a time.

OK. Not bad for my first quad. It's on a Nimbus base. Done with a single piece of 30AWG Kanthal wrapped (more like threaded) around two 3/32 drill bits. 4-3 wrap for each quadrant. I jacked the coils a bit trying to find the right wick to thread it with. Ended up with cotton hemp folded with a few extra strands for a snug fit.

Nimbus RDA with 2x 1.7mm air holes
MNKE 18650
4.1 volts
0.32ohms
52 Watts
12.8 amps

Two second draws and I'm making rain clouds. This is fun and quite satisfying but at this rate I would go through 15ml of juice in a day.

Sweet! Just trying to figure how you wired that: If you had, from top to bottom, post A, B, C. You might start by connecting the wire at point A, wrap a coil on the left side and send the end through post B. Then wrap a coil between B & C on the lower side and pass the wire through post C and wrap another coil on the lower left side. Then pass the wire through post B again and wrap a coil on the upper right side and connect the end to post A.

And, here I thought you were going to "micro coil".

Looks pretty neat. You're going to want to carry spare batteries though.. lots of them. :)

I'll check into it, thanks. How thick is your wick, Bronze? I've got some 2.5mm braided and some 3mm hollow. Do you double or triple fold yours?

I've doubled up 2.0mm and quadrupled 1mm. I think if you're in the 4 - 6mm total you're good to go. The Kayfun is not fussy. Biggest problem I am seeing is too much wick. Watch those vids.

Oh... by the way.... I switched things up a bit. I plopped DF into my RSST/K100 (3/2 28g @ .8 ohms). Man... does THAT juice come alive at high power. Fresh battery, so 20+w... Wow... Guess you have to vape it the way its named. It's glorious. I had been putting it through a cart tank for a bit... and what I am getting in the RSST is what I tasted in that tank X 10.

Bronze.... You gotta try it on a mech. Get a K100 ($38 at Discount Vapers even throws in a Kamry fuse.... that's KEY...) and wrap a sub-ohmer... TRUST me... you'll like it... all the cool kids are doing it. I know you are having some (Kay)fun and all, but go for it.

So Legend was moved off to my micro-cottoned RDA (deck blocked, 1/16 hole drilled in top rib, 1.8 ohms, 28g, can't remember the wraps or ID... heh). I realized I had it ALLLLL wrong. I never was a real fan of it in my RSST... something seemed off and I figured it was something with the wick or coil... It wasn't... it was the power. Legend is an old soul; mellow and deliberate and doesn't like to be rushed along. It must not have liked the high energy vape in that RSST... because at 10w on the RDA.... just as DF came alive at 20, Legend comes alive at 10w... Incredible flavor and richness that I didn't get in the RSST. I got a 150ml of it thinking I'd blast through it in the RSST, now in the frugal RDA, it's going to last forever.

Just reaffirms to me the need to have variation in my gear. Before I traveled down the dripping atty/RDA/RBA path, I have a sad little group of Evods running the same resistance coils and ran them at the same voltage on my spinner and Vamo. Two months later, how things have changed.

The twisted 32g coil experiment on my new mini RDA.... tempermental... Need to redo that one too... it has a tendancy to explode and make a loud crack akin to those little paper snaps my kids like to play with. Yeah...that's not good. But I have to figure out how to fix that STUPID VENT HOLE EVEN WITH THE DECK before I can really use it. If I can't block that hole, there is nothing to keep loose juice from draining, making it no different, in terms of capacity and penalty for too many drops, than the little 510 dripping attys I have. But at least I have a drip shield for those attys....

So, I'm just about giving up on using just Ekowool in the RSST. Tried it in both doubled up 2mm and single strand of 3mm but for some reason it does not wick well enough for me. I do torch it so that I can actually insert the damn thing into the RSST tank, so I'm not sure if that somehow limits the wicking capability. I was hoping to do away with mesh and cable altogether. Sigh!

I asked this in the RBA forum, no responses yet... has anyone tried using a silica wick core in a SS mesh? Would that be parasitic? Or would you think it might act as a juice reserve? I was thinking of running a length of silica down the center and then have a tail into the tank.

In theory it should work, and I'm sure I've read about it being done before. What I can't remember is if the results were any better or different from using just plain mesh.

I thought about it back when I got my mesh but never tried it. Give it a shot. I'd be curious to see what's up.
