Regardless of preferences for delivery, thank you for your hard work and dedication kristin. The industry and it's success stories would all be washing away by now if not for the efforts and intervention of organizations like CASAA!

+1............My thanks to Bill & Elaine & all of Casaa too.

The juvenile, smarmy and confrontational outlook as seen in Elaine's presentation this morning, utilized prevalently by CAASA representatives in ECF and (thusly) adopted by many followers has caused failure on the part of CAASA in obtaining any support from this user of electronic cigarettes.

Wow! Pretty blanket statement about CAASA members.

Probably because you agreed with what he said. I didn't get to see his presentation because I had to go to a doctor's appointment, but I know Bill and have seen him testify many times before. He doesn't pull any punches and calls a spade a spade - or in this case, a liar -a liar,

It's hard not to. On January 4 I'll be 1 year smoke free. I never even considered that as a possibility before.

But in a nutshell, Bill urged the panel to consider their actions from the perspective of their impact on public health. He argued that threatening the availability and affordability of considerably lower risk alternatives to combustible tobacco is a threat to public health. That's ALL he said, really. That and the fact that proposed legislation would effectively ban e-cigarettes - here he quoted some texts with which the panel were surprisingly unfamiliar (Section 9 etc..).

Did anyone else get the feeling they were trying to steer Bill away from talking about electronic cigarettes? A far more dramatic image when you make people think about jaw cancers. And how emotive was it mentioning young people suffering from mouth cancers. These guys really play a different game.
Good for Bill in sticking to the program, fantastic deflection and responses from him.

Watching since 08:15 Eastern Time; resumes at 12:50 Eastern Time; fact is, so far it's been about 80% "pro" NRT's of all kinds "including" e-cigs. Haven't heard anything "significantly-damaging" to e-cigs (except maybe the last one... & she was pretty "emotional"... which is usually randomly "dismissed" by the personality-type sitting in this panel). Was under the impression that the morning presentations were the "pro" presentations. In any event, I would say that "if" common-sense mostly "prevails" in the long run, then the future for e-cigs is looking "pretty bright" (so far).

Thanks Bill for taking the lead.

Bill is a professional at speaking and making points.
This is definitely not the first or last time he will speak in front of a panel or slew of people.

Bill made some great points and the reason why no one understood the positive effects of smokeless products
(reduced harm) is because everyone has been taught differently.

He will continue to fight for smokefree ways and means just as most of us are.

Go Bill!

I missed Elaines so I can't comment on it. I personally liked it when a member of the panel asked Bill to forward the study on chewing tobacco being safer and he told them that he had sent it several times to the FDA and it was referenced in what he had sent only to be ignored by them.

I missed Elaine's talk - I am sick, which is great because I could call off work, but earlier I was feeling really bad. What did she do wrong?

She didn't do anything "wrong" in my opinion, but her presentation came off as more emotional than factual. The only real stumbling point in her presentation is when one of the panel members asked for a source to back up an annual income number she provided on a slide, and she had no answer and didn't offer to follow up. For me, her oral presentation was much different than the written expression she exhibits here on the forums, for which she truly excels. It could be that she is better at written expression (like me), or she was just having an off day, and since I've never seen her speak before I can't say for sure either way.

Regardless of my interpretation of professionalism in public speaking, I do believe she made some very good points in the time allotted.
