Hey guys and gals, I've been vaping for about a year now and been building for about half of that time. I've stayed away from tube mech mods, but I have some $$ coming in soon and was thinking about taking the chance on one. I understand ohms law, battery safety, etc, but having an issue shuffling through the tons of single 18650 tube mech mods out there and trying to figure which one is the best as a "beginner" mech mod, if that makes any sense. Currently, considering the wotofo phantom mod, an aria standard mod (as suggested by a person I spoke with from Beyond Vape), or perhaps a SMPL clone. What are your experiences with these? Do you have suggestions for other mechs? What's the easiest to navigate, a hybrid (needs a protruding 510 on the rda to work without disaster happening), one that comes with floating pin, spring loaded, or self adjusting pin? Just curious and very interesting in learning more before I make what I consider a very important purchase for my own personal evolution with vaping. Thanks for any and all suggestions peeps, vape on!

I would avoid direct-to- battery mods like the SMPL.
These mods are not hybrids. Hybrids do not have 510 threads. Hybrids have a dedicated atomizer.
I'll make a suggestion:

King v2 knurled clone.
Recessed button, adjustable Positive connection, reverse threaded lock ring, solid as a rock, comes in brass, copper or Stainless steel.

I'm new to mech's and love my SMPL. I don't know why someone wouldn't want a direct to battery connection. Less voltage drop and no screwing around with adjustable 510 pins. Just screw on atty, put in battery and screw in the switch. The SMPL has a one piece tube unlike the King v2. In the pics posted above you can see the seams where you screw all the tubes together.

The SMPL is nice. I have 4.

They are not beginners mechs.

They have no lock, and if you attach the wrong atty, a new mech user will be in for a bad day.

There no voltage drop noticeable over the King. None.

The king accepts all 18xxx batteries.
You cannot "put the wrong atty" on a king. They all work.
The king is better made, thicker, stronger, safer, and hits just as well as a SMPL.

It's just a better device. Especially for a first mech.

I don't know how or what could be better made. The Smpl is a tube with a switch. If it's thicker and stronger it's because it's not a 22 mm mech. The atty's in your pics aren't flush with the mod. Doesn't look right to me. Have you ever used a battery in your King mods that wasn't a 18650? I couldn't imagine using anything but which is why I don't want a mod that screws together in a whole bunch of pieces. As far as it not being a beginner mech well it's my first mech and I have zero problems using it. It isn't a beginner mod but for someone with even half a brain that can use an ohms law calculator, build a coil and look at their atty's to see if the positive 510 pin protrudes I don't see what the problem is. I looked at a lot of mech's before finally purchasing my Smpl. I love it!

The brass king in the pic has an 18500 in it.
I have about 80 mechanicals and I repaired Mods for three local shops for a couple years.
SMPLs are okay, again I own several and I am very familiar with them.
The king is a better mod. The SMPL offers less to a new mechanical user, at a much higher risk.

Do you got a good link-site where you got your king feom ninja? Want to look at it more...not as familiar with it as I am the smpl. Thanks for the suggestions guys...keep em coming if you have any others you like.
88evape has the SS for about $15
Focalecig and fasttech has the brass and copper versions.

Vapelyfe hybrid clone by Tesla.

It also comes with standard 510 top cap.
No lock, but true recessed switch.
Comes with true hybrid 20x1 threaded quad coil dripper.
Comes with three solid tubes, one for each size 18xxx battery. Damn fine mod. Hits like Conor McGregor.

They come in all 3 flavors. Copper brass and SS.
Got mine from fasttech, but you may have to google a bit to find the right one. They are out there.

Edited to add:

I could also recommend the standard fare. Nemesis, chi you, stingray, etc, they also would fit your bill and they are great mods too.

I guess it's a better mod for you.

I have 3 smpl's and like them also alot for their design(my first mechs also). The king v2 as ninja said is better made, e.g. the threads where the switch screws in arent that great on my 3 smpl's but rock in the king. Yeah, it's not 22mm(23mm), but feels very sturdy and nice and the thicker body, the less drop normally... Also the smpl usually has a brass negative contact, instead of copper like the king(although the smpl's is in one piece in the 1:1 switch). Personally, I preffer pinless-510's also for the simplicity, but the vd difference has been measured to be neglible. I also only use 18650's, but with thread-deepness/tolerances as nice as the king v2, then it's not as big of an issue I believe(current-jumping ~ vd).

Btw, the vapelyfe from FT ninja gotten is discontinued, but they have others available...

Ya the vapelyfe set is discontinued at fasttech, but if your Google fu is strong you can find them on a few sites and ebay.

The threads on my Smpl are perfect. If the King has better threading on yours than the Smpl it's because they did a better job of cloning it. I don't understand what the big deal is with top cap. I wouldn't recommend a Smpl to someone buying their first mod but for someone like the OP who has been vaping for a year and can build coils, understands battery safety and can use ohms law I can't see what the problem is. I can't find much about the king v2 online. It's been around for awhile but nobody talks about it except bad ninja. And yes you get a lot less with the Smpl a lot less pieces.

Ninja, am I right in that the vapelyfe is very much alike the king v2, I mean in button, 510 and threads, except things like no lock, 22mm, one-piece 18650 tube etc and of course true hybrid possibility... ?

budd77, if you get the king v2 I will bet that you'll feel there's a difference in the threads, lol... No smpl clone can compare imho(thread-wise I mean)... In the new epic smpl(+ or v2 or whatever it's called) they also changed the threads btw but haven't seen them(or an originl smpl either, though)... Check out the king v2 thread here and some youtube vids if wanting to learn it's niceness :) It's also highly praised in the reviews on fasttech...

Btw, I don't see any issues with smpl's either, even for noobs... It's one's own responsibility to get to understand how things work imho... I was a mech noob when getting my smpl's, but being new to something doesn't mean that you're free of studying what there is to know about it first...

It's his first mechancial.
A SMPL has more risk than reward for someone unfamiliar with mechanical
Mods.

Yes it's somewhat similar.
Adjustable 510 positive, recessed button.
