Looking to switch to vaping but I need advice.

Hi guys,
As the title says I'm thinking of switching to vaping as I have realise I'm smoking more now in the past couple of months than I used to and I'm feeling the affects, loss of breath etc.
Now I'm not looking to quit nicotine but I really don't know where to start most of the blogs dealing with it seem to be just trying to sell you a specific brand.

In short I'm looking for a kit that would still let me get my fix throughout the day but not blow a hole in my bank account, also the juice where the hell do you start with that stuff it comes in what appears to be a million different strengths and flavours haha.

Welcome Movin_pics.

I was up your way last summer... beautiful. :)

You'll get lots of responses on here, the kits will be great, but they'll probably be for the US.

I am going to offer some links, just remember, these are independent vaping stores (online) NOT the same as "brand" vaping stores like Totally Wicked (good but pricey) or Vapouriz (not good and pricey) or JacVapour (Excellent and reasonably priced, but incompatitble with most other things....)

Have a look here

Vape Escape

Myepack.co.uk

Home

These are my 3 favourites. They all do starter kits. If I had to choose on value alone, then probably this

Evod Starter Kit SS - Starter Kits

or this

Mini Protank 2 Kit - Starter Kits

As for liquid, that's complicated, but I'll be back later.

Welcome :)

I am new too. I started with an Ego style kit. Mine is a Kanger Evod brand, but there are many similar out there. I would suggest finding a local B&M store. The folks in there can help you pinpoint what will work best for you. Most have a juice bar setup to try some flavors to start with and that will help alot. As far as flavor goes... It really subjective for each person. I started with 12mg nicotine and wasn't enough for me. I then got 24 and that has been great. I was a pack a day smoker of Camel Menthols. As far as wallet... My fist setup had 1 battery, 1 bcc tank (1.6ml size), charger, 1 extra head, case and a bottle of juice. I spent $40.

The biggest thing really is that no matter what you decide on, 1) your gonna get healthier. 2) your going to save money in the long run. It's won't seem like it at first on saving money as you get a setup that works for you, but in a very short time it will.

The most basic advice I give people is to vape as high a nicotine percentage as you can (24mg is a good safe starting point) and vape as much as possible. Try not to worry too much about flavor at first, finding a favorite can take a long time. Focus on the nicotine.

Try to find the least fiddly delivery mechanism you can, try not to get stars in your eyes from all the hype and beautiful choices. But try and find something that will deliver the goods.

Most beginners seem to want to start with "cigalike" type (small stick style batteries that closely resemble cigs) Personal Vaporizers (PV) and almost always end up upgrading to a larger battery within a few weeks

try to find an ego style VV (variable voltage) battery in the 900-1100 mah range (mah is how big the battery is and how long the charge will last before needing to be recharged - 2 are recommended - one to use while the other is charging) or the Innoken VV3 (800 mah but can be used as a pass through (you can use it while it is charging))

for the eliquid delivery get a good clearo or tank - these are available in bottom coil (better wicking but a cooler feeling vape) or top coil (warmer vape but need to be inverted or "twirled" to keep the wicks working properly - very easy to get used to)

as far as eliquid is concerned if you smoked quite a bit you will want to start in the 18-24mg range
I don't recommend flavors as that is subjective to every individual but if you are looking for an eliquid that tastes exactly like a cigarette you will be disappointed - there are some that are close but hardly ever are they exact - go for the non traditional cigarette flavors and embrace the fruits and dessert flavors (I snacked less when I started vaping)

Nic absorption with vaping is slower than with cigarettes so don't expect an immediate nic "buzz" like you get with cigarettes (vaping = larger nic molecules = slower absorption - smoking = smaller molecules with nasty additives = faster absorption

hope this helps

I started with a Halo Triton kit - Triton Tank System Starter Kits | Halo Cigs

it's a bit pricier than some of the others, but it's easy to use as a starter, but provides a better substitute IMHO than the cigalikes. i've moved on since then, but only after getting used to the triton, and learning what everything meant - all the options were definitely a bit overwhelming at first

.. the amount of you guys trying to help me out is awesome I'm a member of a few forums but this is easily the most positive first experience I have had with one.

Thanks everyone.

You're welcome. In truth there are only 20 or so vendors worth shopping at (for hardware) and another 30 for e-liquid.
If you google, 9 times out of 10, you'll fall straight into the hands of the people that pay the most to get up the top of google.
OR, worse still, you'll get a company selling plastic sticks that don't work and cost £2,000 a year to buy refills for.

If I'm not allowed to post this, someone can remove the link.

I ordered from myvaporstore.com and I got a 1300mAh Vision Spinner Variable Voltage battery, a Kanger EVOD tank, ego charger and some juice from MtBakervapor.com

All together, came to about $50. It has worked wonders. I completely quit cigarettes on the second day. It's definitely the best purchase I've made in a long time.

Thats why I almost exclusively frequent here. Lots of trolling the web before I settled on a home info site. Great info and great people.

Hi Movin_pics, Welcome to ECF. I started with an eGO starter kit and 24mg juice. I had a 1/2 pack of the stinkies sitting on the shelf in their normal place. I just left them there in case I needed one. I didn't put any pressure on myself. I just started vaping when the urge to smoke happened while allowing for the possibility of actually smoking. Three weeks later that pack is still 1/2 full.:) Good luck.

Myepack are brilliant. I ordered on sunday and it arrived on tuesday. I got this:
Mini Protank 2 Kit - Starter Kits

A really nice starter kit with an evod ego type battery, 5 coil heads (+the one already fitted), kanger pro tank 2 with removeable drip tip and a charger. I got it for £19.99 and there was £10 off so grab it quick. It's a lovely starter kit.

Hi Movin, I have recently REstarted vaping. What has worked for me so far is an eGo kit I bought off Gift Card Hut Marketplace on ebay for around $15. Most "vape shops" around here (Southwest Virginia) are selling the same kits from $20-$30. It was the Ego-T with 650mAh battery + clearomizer, USB charger, and case. Not sure about around you but the gas stations here sell some brands of liquids which helped me get started while I searched for a place to get my liquid. I started with parkesvaping.com. They have some good selection and a variety of nicotine levels. I personally started at the 36mg as I was a pack+ a day smoker and I'm now going on 2 months analog free. Hope this helps.

JUICE !

Paradise Vape UK

Why this place in particular ?, well because they supply juice in, 100% vg, 50/50, or mostly pg. Nearly all other vendors don't give you the option of 100vg, and if they do, i haven't found them. So this is a great site for e liquid solutions at a reasonable price with nicotine levels up to 36mg.
