There are ways to save money vaping. A big one is buying smaller bottles to try a juice out. I'd say I was at least a month in before I bought 30mls of anything. Most juice vendors have sample sizes available & some even offer a sampler pack that you can customize or they will offer a sampling of their most popular flavors. Keep an eye on the classifieds forum. Almost every day I see a post offering several small 3-5ml bottles for pretty cheap. Picking things like this up in the beginning can allow you to sample 10-15 juices for $20 or $30 rather than spending more buying big bottles directly from the vendor.

Along with not spending over $9 a day on analogs, I have saved other ways as well. I used to stop off at the convenience store near my house on my way to work everyday & pick up a pack of smokes. Along with the smokes, I usually picked up a large coffee for the commute, a soda for later and sometimes a bagel or muffin for a mid morning snack. I hardly ever stop there now. Actually the lat time I stopped was on the way home to grab a bag of ice & they guy working was surprised to see me & asked me if I had moved. I'd say the average stop cost me another $6 on top of the cost of the smokes. So that's probably another $180 saved.

In the spring/summer I had a wicked bout of bronchitis. It took me almost 4 months to shake it. My doctor told me straight up that I wasn't getting better because I was smoking. That sickness probably cost me over $3000 between doctors visits, trips to see a specialist, tests, x-rays, 2 ER visits, missed work, etc.

My partner has also started vaping in the last few weeks. Since she seems to like my old hardware and a few juices I didn't care for our investment for her to vape has been almost nothing. She hasn't bought a pack of analogs in three weeks. That's saved us another $300 a month easily.

I've been vaping for 12 days. Spent $230 on hardware and juices and I figure I have enough juice and cartos to last me 3 months. When you figure I spent $230 a month on analogs that's a savings of $460 over a 3 month period. In 12 days my starter kit and juices have already paid for themselves. I could be wrong but in the long run I plan on saving 60% of what I spent on analogs. I didn't roll my own but I bought the cheapest analogs at the QT and they were/are $4.95 a pack.

I agree with Frankster to some degree. I believe that the initial cost of vaping can be expensive. I bought the Ego kit, then started buying sample juices. The kit as is doesn't work for me, so I bought some mega dual coil cartos. Then bought some more juice. I honestly believe my biggest cost is the juice and that was only because I was trying to find not only a comfortable nic level, but a good taste. Now that I've found them both, I believe my cost will start to average off to the point where I will eventually break even with the amount I have saved from not buying cigarettes.

Now that I'm starting DIY, I think my cost will average out quicker since I won't be buying juices from vendors. Again the initial cost of getting into DIY is expensive. Once you get a good base of flavors the saving will eventually come.

FRANKSTER, I am sorry that you have had to figure out so much of this on your own. What gear and juice you like is something that each of us has to determine on our own. Some of us are lucky and quickly find what we need to get off analogs. Others struggle with this and I think that is what you are experiencing. I hope you find what you need quickly.

If at all possible I would suggest you seek out someone, either an experienced vapor or even better a local shop that specializes in ecig's. Buy them a coffee, trade some juice (use a regular atomizer and drip when trying new juices). Get yourself a mentor.

And then think about what a noob has to go thru in order to figure this stuff out. Googling for ecig's brings up some very aggressive marketing by not so great equipment suppliers. If a person is lucky they find there way here but they still have to figure stuff out (I loved your post about video reviews of juice). What can we do to make this better for a new person? that is the challenge…

Until then, tolerance an understanding that this is a new developing technology will go a long way.

I agree with everyone!:)
I can see spending a ton of money at first..I am only $100 in on the vaping in my first month and that is more than the $80 a month I was spending on analogs, but I am on a budget and that is the only thing holding me back from trying every format I read about here..luckily a friend of mine visited over turkey day weekend and introduced me to a lr atty and dripping! I have been waiting for my 10 cartos from china..and now have lr attys and drip tips coming..my next steps are a batt mod and rebuildable attys, and those are just steps I know I will need to take so I can cut costs down and increase enjoyment, because I know these eGo batteries are going to need to be replaced eventually..I have no regrets about what I have paid and don't think I ever will.

How can you use just 5 cartos a month when you have 10-15 juices unless you top off with a different juice in the same carto and that will spoil the taste... I vape ten times more than I smoked and that cost money.

That's one of my favorite parts of using cartos. Some of the mixes turn out so good that I end up mixing bottles of the two juices.

I definitely wasn't saving money when I started out... all of the equipment, buying tons of juices to find the ones that I like best, trying different cartos, atties, etc.. Now I'm mixing my own juice and definitely spending less that I did as a smoker. That and some cartos are my only expenses (along with occasional battery replacements). I went through an over-spending phase when starting DIY too, but I'm through that now.

Guess I lucked out in the beginning, but I did a LOT of reading/browsing before jumping in.
The Riva from Liberty Flights is no doubt a good place to begin the journey to being smoke-free,
at least as far as cost goes. For less than a c-note you can be fully equipped for 60-90 days.
I spent $400+/month on analogs before quitting over a year ago, probably spent $6-700 since,
that computes to over $4,000 saved. It wasn't that difficult to stay on the wagon !!

I spent a TON the first few months, about $300 the first week. Now, I think it's about $30 to $40 a month. I finally figured out this tank system & don't think I'll be buying many cartos in the future.
I was also lucky & found my everyday e-liquid in the first few months.

Good Luck

I was the first one in my group of family and friends who started vaping, so yes...I have put out more money due to trial and error. Now my family and friends, since they have my guidance, have not spent all those crazy hundreds of dollars on...junk. I am happy that I am at a great spot with mods that I like, cartos that I like, and unflavored nic juice, I spend very little a month now. But yes, at first, lots of dollars and my lucky family and friends... have not had to put out too much on error. I think it truly boils down to education on PVs and PV supplies either by self or someone else.

well in the begining it was expensive but over the last year I have saved quit a bit of money over smoking, I DIY my juice and I buy in bulk and go to what is a good deal cartomizers, atomizers, vg, pg and nicotine and flavorings all bought in bulk so I figure my monthly maintenance cost is about $25.00 give or take a few dollars smoking costed me about $360.00
