Happy birthday to your gd. Do you have greats? I have 2 but rarely get to see them.

Good morning Bea, Rose and Fran. Kind of overcast here, but that's a good thing since I do want to pull some weeds.

I think I missed something. Are you selling your house and moving in with your daughter permanently? I've had the impression that she's a couple hours from you?

There seems to be a disconnect between the idea and the reality of what can be done with children that age. She'll figure it out. In the meantime you'll all be together and make some memories.

Today is our daughter's 39th birthday. Her first born, Hux, was 3 on 7/21, but dad was away so we're having his party here tomorrow and we're going to have some surprises for her too. You're right, it was just a couple years ago she was in collage and now she's a mother with 2 kids. We must be in a time warp because it sure seems to be zipping by!
It's a long story I'm pretty sure I already posted. I can't afford to pay the taxes on my house with the little SS I get so I'm moving in with youngest daughter and renting the house to my Gd. That way I can pay the taxes. Short version....LOL

That looks like it should work. I have seen you contemplating that. I am trying to figure out how to go see my son. My daughter visited last week, and the boost in my mood has been phenomenal.

That's wonderful:wub: How far away does your son live? Would he not visit you?

    Hola .. :)

Although I think it's great that you're able to save the House Ownership, I just think it's a crying shame that, as we get older and into retirement, the Tax Man continues to nail us .. after many years of paying into "The System", there should come a time when zero Property Tax is due ..

I know the back story on your scenario, but still, I think too many Seniors are faced with these type of choices, which leave them little to no choices at all ..

I know a couple who ended up with a higher yearly Property Tax tab, if divided over 12 months, that was more than their original House Payment ..

The other beef I have is, the continued escalation that compounds on itself like interest .. if there is a 5% increase, then the next increase is 5% on the last years, and so forth ..

We have a $5000 senior exemption, which lowered mine some several years ago and we have what they call a "Freeze" after a certain age .. which is a lie since it's not actually a full freeze on all Taxing Entities ..

The worst part of all is, I don't think the City/County has a clue on Budgetary Constraint based on the Giant Salaries some get .. yet the condition of roads and infrastructure is a joke ..

Yet, let some new Big Box Retailer roll into town and the Powers That Be are always willing to cut a deal on Property Tax abatement for years out into the Future ..

While the rest of us just continue to get squeezed ..

As an addition to the above Rant ::

Obviously, it's a sore spot with me .. I fought tooth and nail to get the Property Tax lowered on my over 100 year old workshop this year, and did get some relief ..

I won't do that on my Home, because, with my luck, the Assessor would deem it worth more than it showed on the Tax Roles ..

I'll get into this type Rant with folks I know and they will say "Well, Willie, you should run for City or County Council .. " .. I'm no Politician, never have been, never will be .. (unless you have not noticed .. ) .. o_O

He is in a long-term rehab program. When he gets out, he will come back here, though. I just messaged my sister. We originate from a town half way between where I am and where he is.

I'm just hoping this works out for me. I'm going to miss my cats which I have to leave because they are very hairy and my daughter has asthma. The good thing is they will have a good home with my gd. Her hubs is a big animal person. I do have 3 other kids but none I really want to live with. There is low-income housing but meh............

In that case, I hope you will be able to visit him.:)

    Good morning everyone.

Every year I go to the polls and vote NO to all those property tax increases they want to foist upon me. The people around me vote YES and up, up, up go the taxes. Maybe there should be a rule, you can't vote on upping the property taxes unless you are a property owner. I bet if that were the case they wouldn't go up! I'm betting most of the people voting for more government have never even considered the impact on their taxes/rent/sales tax etc. after the bill passes. When I retired, I was short sighted and only allowed for "x" amount in taxes. It's already $200 more per year! Good thing I quit cigarettes, I can use that money to offset it.

I like the idea of taxing seniors less too. If they have lived that long it stands to reason they already paid into the system with so many different taxes it's time to let them have a break.

I guess I should get off my soapbox now.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

I finally qualified for the senior property tax thing here. I forgot about it last year and missed the deadline. I forgot how much it helps, will find out when they come due again, I guess.

I agree with Willie, Makes it hard when one gets older. I am still not sure what I will do but I just don't want to move yet. I love my daughter and fam but he is military so I would have to keep moving when they move and I hate cold weather places. I am going to hope I can hang in here for a few more years.

I'm sorry to hear you have to leave the furballs behind, but glad they will be well taken care of.

Well. I suppose I'm in this boat because I didn't look ahead at all. Both my husbands were self-employed and I worked with them but no taxes were paid in my name. I'm not eligible for SS at all.

Is it possible that you can try for S.S.D.?
