Hola ..
Although I think it's great that you're able to save the House Ownership, I just think it's a crying shame that, as we get older and into retirement, the Tax Man continues to nail us .. after many years of paying into "The System", there should come a time when zero Property Tax is due ..
I know the back story on your scenario, but still, I think too many Seniors are faced with these type of choices, which leave them little to no choices at all ..
I know a couple who ended up with a higher yearly Property Tax tab, if divided over 12 months, that was more than their original House Payment ..
The other beef I have is, the continued escalation that compounds on itself like interest .. if there is a 5% increase, then the next increase is 5% on the last years, and so forth ..
We have a $5000 senior exemption, which lowered mine some several years ago and we have what they call a "Freeze" after a certain age .. which is a lie since it's not actually a full freeze on all Taxing Entities ..
The worst part of all is, I don't think the City/County has a clue on Budgetary Constraint based on the Giant Salaries some get .. yet the condition of roads and infrastructure is a joke ..
Yet, let some new Big Box Retailer roll into town and the Powers That Be are always willing to cut a deal on Property Tax abatement for years out into the Future ..
While the rest of us just continue to get squeezed ..
