Speaking of apps. If you like jigsaw puzzles there are some very nice apps you can download free. This one is my favorite because it is totally free unlike some which are only free for a while. There are many free puzzles that are part of the app and it gives me a new ones daily.

The very same app is available for Android.

Good morning everyone! :)

I used to have a ton of real books and I'd go to the library all the time. Then the arthritis got worse in my hands and wrists. A friend bought me a fire 8 and I can read again! No more ten pound books from the library!.
Sometimes I miss my real paper books and when my ebook loses my place I long for dogearing a page or using anything handy as a bookmark. Unfortunately it's gotten to the point that even paperbacks cause me pain. Like it or not if I want to read a book with minimum pain I'm reading on my fire.
I have 2 Fire Kindles and they both bookmark where I left off reading...;)

I read all kinds of books except scifi (sorry Unc)

Uncle I love the Calibre app. Been using it for years.

No Need to apologize, however there are a lot of other ebooks available too, not just SciFi . . . The thing is they are rar (zip) files alphabetize by author that list all their books once the files are opened . . . ;)

AND - Yes, Calibre app/program is very useful and enjoyable to use . . .

I have an Android 10" tablet, and use the Kindle app for my reading these days. There are so many book clubs that I subscribe to, that I couldn't possibly read all of the recommended books, but do d/l the ones that interest me for future reading.

I sometimes miss the tactile feel of a hard back...I kept all of the classics, and some special nutritional/energy healing books, along with a lot of others, but there were so many that we ended up putting them in a massive container, double covering with heavy duty plastic. The rest were donated! When we were going through them, I had such fond memories of some of those books, that they made the cut to the storage box!

Love the fact that I didn't have to purchase a separate reader! That would be one more device to carry when we travel to son's house or wherever. It fits in my large purse with my phone, and I'm good to go!

Actually you may NEVER have to pay for an e-book. In 10 years of voracious reading I never have.

There are tons of online books - free.
1. Most large county libraries offer ebooks through the "Overdrive". It's a free service that stocks books just like a physical library. If your county library belongs to it you check out ebooks with your library card.
Find your library · OverDrive (Rakuten OverDrive): eBooks, audiobooks and videos for libraries
If your county doesn't offer Overdrive check the next county over. My county is tiny and doesn't offer it and because of that the next one over (that does) allowed me to get a library card through them so I can use their Overdrive.

2. Project Gutenberg (For older non-copyrighted books)

3. Internet Archive: Digital Library of Free & Borrowable Books, Movies, Music & Wayback Machine (Create a username/password and you can check out no copyright books as well as current books).

And these are many other ways and sites to get free ebooks, including PDF books which can be read on Kindles.

FYI:

Besides all the WONDERFUL Infomation @Bea-FL has provided (In addition, there is also your local Library to get eBooks & if Ya' have a library card can use Hoopla: https://www.hoopladigital.com/ to not only borrow eBook, but anything the library has to offer, incluing movies/music/etc. ) . . . ;)

So - Although some of this information has been posted before . . . Whether or not Ya' have a Kindle or another freestanding piece of equipment to read e-Books . . . AND - While you might be able to find other Free Apps/Programs for MS Windows/Androids/Apple products you use . . . This program is free and can be use on most Tablets/Computers/Phones to access, organize, convert files and read eBooks - both e-pub/pdf format . . . Matter of fact, I've found it very useful to use on both my much older PC Computer (running XP Pro)/Android Tablet:
