Although I have not personally ratcheted up my own Yard activity, it's quite a wonder to behold the folks, especially the younger ones (anyone younger than me is younger) who are out there actually doing some outdoor improvement and/or general maintenance since the lockdown ..

One of my neighbors and his wife and kids were out doing some planting/mulching, I walked over and asked them how they were doing (keeping Socially Distant, of course) .. now, these folks have 2 kids, a 13 year old son and a 6 year old daughter .. who were also out playing around .. we small talked for a few minutes and I then complimented them on their work .. the wife says "Yeah, between School activities, Cardinal games, weekend trips and what not, we really never got into the yard till now .."

These are folks that generally mow their yard once every 3 weeks and a dead tree limb will lay in the yard till next year, pre-Pandemic .. and have previously never planted any new thing ..
My son and dil have commented that all their activities that their children are engaged in took up so much of their time, and now that those activities have been put on hold, they are actually enjoying not driving this one here and that one there.......dil said it's like a respite.......she home schools so that wasn't an issue, already embedded in that.

They are homeschooling right, to be involving kids in out-of-home activities for social interaction. I suspect that when schools resume, many will continue to be homeschooled.

Good morning!

Another rainy day here in Florida. The sound of the rain is relaxing and I suspect we'll both be taking intermittent naps this afternoon. Have a few books I want to start reading, and there are some minor things that could use some attention, but have no real desire to get them done.

Good morning, Gracie :) I’m betting those minor things can wait.

The kids are really starting to miss the social interacting and so is our son. Dil, not as much!

Good morning! It's foggy here, but going up to 80! Not sure I'm ready for that.

Let the destruction begin! It's a project we wanted to tackle when we moved in 32 years ago. Our foyer is covered in wood paneling - walls and ceiling. It's like being inside a tree which is interesting, but it's very dark. We've had a leak in the upstairs shower that dripped down into the foyer so we're not sure what the drywall looks like underneath. Today it's all getting ripped down. We're going to put new drywall up and paint it. It's going to be so bright! I love destructing stuff for home projects!

Another attempt for some brevity; while it is a long read, I laughed throughout! We need all the laughter we can get! :)

    GARDEN SNAKES CAN BE DANGEROUS...
Snakes also known as Garter Snakes (Thamnophissirtalis) can be dangerous Yes, grass snakes, not rattlesnakes. Here's why.

A couple in Sweetwater, Texas, had a lot of potted plants. During a recent cold spell, the wife was bringing a lot of them indoors to protect them from a possible freeze.

It turned out that a little green garden grass snake was hidden in one of the plants. When it had warmed up, it slithered out and the wife saw it go under the sofa.

She let out a very loud scream.

The husband (who was taking a shower) ran out into the living room naked to see what the problem was. She told him there was a snake under the sofa.

He got down on the floor on his hands and knees to look for it. About that time the family dog came and cold-nosed him on the behind. He thought the snake had bitten him, so he screamed and fell over on the floor.

His wife thought he had had a heart attack, so she covered him up, told him to lie still and called an ambulance.

The attendants rushed in, would not listen to his protests, loaded him on the stretcher, and started carrying him out.

About that time, the snake came out from under the sofa and the Emergency Medical Technician saw it and dropped his end of the stretcher. That's when the man broke his leg and why he is still in the hospital.

The wife still had the problem of the snake in the house, so she called on a neighbor who volunteered to capture the snake. He armed himself with a rolled-up newspaper and began poking under the couch.. Soon he decided it was gone and told the woman, who sat down on the sofa in relief.

But while relaxing, her hand dangled in between the cushions, where she felt the snake wriggling around. She screamed and fainted, the snake rushed back under the sofa.

The neighbor man, seeing her lying there passed out, tried to use CPR to revive her.

The neighbor's wife, who had just returned from shopping at the grocery store, saw her husband's mouth on the woman's mouth and slammed her husband in the back of the head with a bag of canned goods, knocking him out and cutting his scalp to a point where it needed stitches.

The noise woke the woman from her dead faint and she saw her neighbor lying on the floor with his wife bending over him, so she assumed that the snake had bitten him. She went to the kitchen and got a small bottle of whiskey, and began pouring it down the man's throat.

By now, the police had arrived.
    Breathe here...

They saw the unconscious man, smelled the whiskey, and assumed that a drunken fight had occurred. They were about to arrest them all, when the women tried to explain how it all happened over a little garden snake!

The police called an ambulance, which took away the neighbor and his sobbing wife.

Now, the little snake again crawled out from under the sofa and one of the policemen drew his gun and fired at it. He missed the snake and hit the leg of the end table. The table fell over, the lamp on it shattered and, as the bulb broke, it started a fire in the drapes.

The other policeman tried to beat out the flames, and fell through the window into the yard on top of the family dog who, startled, jumped out and raced into the street, where an oncoming car swerved to avoid it and smashed into the parked police car.

Meanwhile, neighbors saw the burning drapes and called in the fire department. The firemen had started raising the fire ladder when they were halfway down the street. The rising ladder tore out the overhead wires, put out the power, and disconnected the telephones in a ten-square city block area (but they did get the house fire out).

Time passed! Both men were discharged from the hospital, the house was repaired, the dog came home, the police acquired a new car and all was right with their world.

A while later they were watching TV and the weatherman announced a cold snap for that night. The wife asked her husband if he thought they should bring in their plants for the night.

And that's when he shot her.
I read this years ago and cried from laughing. Same thing this time around. I'll share it on FB. We all need a little laughter right now.

    Hola .. :)

From the "Wrap Your Head Around This" File

I have to say, I kinda of thought the extra $600 bucks a week stimulus money on top of regular unemployment was a bit of a whacky idea .. I'd have thought that, at maximum, the stimulus would add to regular State unemployment in order to bring the pay up to what it was pre-layoff with a maximum cutoff, but, I guess that probably made too much sense .. just matching the old pay, IMO .. but no, it ended up being $600 on top of regular unemployment .. so, if you made $700 a week take home, pre-pandemic working, and your State unemployment is $345, you now get $945 a week .. so, yeah, why don't folks want to go back to work .. ?? o_O (these numbers are from an actual person I know)

Now, the Politicos want to offer a bonus to those on unemployment to go back to work .. after they themselves created the incentive to not go back to work ..

And after that, probably start another push to eliminate any safety net from those "deadbeats". That they created.

Good afternoon, all. Today has been a good day. It started with a halfway decent night's sleep. I've had some more nicotine in my cart at MFS for a couple of weeks and just haven't had the urge to finish the order. Well, I just went ahead and ordered it a bit ago. I'm not sure if I will really need it but I figure it won't take up much room in the freezer and I would rather have and not need it as to need it and not have it. I just don't want to take a chance of the added tax that I've been hearing about. I wouldn't want to have to take out a second mortgage to buy a liter of nicotine. I hope everyone has a relaxing evening.

My input on the $600/week federal unemployment - we are self employed and considered "gig" workers. Our work is at dog shows. We are self employed so not "entitled" to state unemployment. No dog shows means no work. We work dog shows and manufacture products we sell to other dog show vendors, no dog shows means no sales there either. I am not qualified since I am collecting Social Security, but it sure doesn't pay the bills alone. My husband did qualify for the Federal $600/week so that money is keeping us afloat. He has to re-apply every 2 weeks, a very frustrating situation with the Florida Unemployment system. They also said it would be retroactive to March (when he first attempted to apply), but so far only 2 $600 payments.

For people in our situation the money helps. Rest assured, when shows start up again (hopefully in September, the end of September, so August and September will be tight) we will be out there working! Until then, well at least until the end of July, it helps us pay the bills and eat.

I agree some people (most?) are taking rash advantage of the funds, but some of us are grateful for the assistance.

I'm glad you're getting some of it. You certainly aren't declining employment, and you're not taking advantage of anything.
