She was probably shocked that you weren't giving her a $4.60 tip. Either that or she didn't know how to make change. Because cash is so dirty a lot of people aren't using cash at all these days, but I still can't get used to people using credit to buy a donut.

Funny you should say that .. she did ask if I needed change .. I said "Although I do plan on giving you a tip, the change would seem to me to be a little excessive .." .. I handed her a five upon delivery of my change ..

I'll add :: I don't see how cash money is any better or worse than the use of plastic as it relates to paying for something .. at a restaurant, they take your card, run it thru and then bring it back ..

It's sad to me, that the landscape will change once things settle down to whatever 'normalcy' ends up unfolding .. not to mention the financial hit that local municipalities will be facing in the future ..
Thank you for not saying "the new normal". I've gotten pretty darn tired of hearing that.

So, uh, being sick and tired of hearing "the new normal" is the new normal, Nermal?

Yeah, the talking heads grab one phrase and work it to death. Until the next calamity / atrocity, then they generate a new one, and nothing that went before retains any air time, as if it never happened. Thoughts and prayers comes to mind.

Yes, Nermal almost looks normal. He isn't

Nermal is a cat, if you didn't know. I needed a username, and Roger was already taken. I happened to look at my not quite normal cat, and here we are.

We've always been cat attendants, and they are all normally abnormal.

Can't see any reason to get "cat toys"!

Good evening!

Today's weather was absolutely perfect.......a light breeze, temps in the 70s with moderate humidity. My man and I took a ride and traffic has picked up a lot, and it was good to see.
Our beach is beckoning to us, and it's not crowded at all, we just may take a walk tomorrow....miss walking in the sand.

Sorry. The way you wrote that I thought you were being extra generous. I think servers usually ask if you want change and they may not even realize how much your tab was. Often, if I have little money (ones and fives) with me I can work it so the tab and tip work out and then can tell the server no change.

To avoid the credit card charge we usually leave a cash tip to make sure the server gets the whole tip. But since the virus hit, people are shying away from using cash at all because it's so dirty-been through tons of people before you get it and who knows whose nose it's been in. People don't want to handle it. Also, there is a chance that when you give your card to a server they can easily copy your cc numbers to sell or use later.

Anybody here use Venmo? I'm just learning about it. It's come in handy when our kids and I need to pay each other for whatever. Just use your phone.

Wiggle your toes in the sand for me please. We missed our trip to Florida this year.

We use Zelle but everyone in my family either banks at Chase or Capital One so I don't know if it works with other banks. Zelle is great though!

Good morning. Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day here today.

Sorry you missed your Florida trip this year. What a weird, scary, sad year this has been. Maybe we all need 2 vacations next year.

Never heard of Zelle, but then Venmo is new to me too. Maybe there's others? Venmo is supposed to be part of Pay Pal I think. Not sure how they make their money, but we've used it a couple times and hasn't cost us anything. Our daughter uses it to pay her preschool tuition. I thought a cashless society was going to mean the use of credit cards, but maybe we won't be using them either! That might not be so bad because we've had to have ours replaced several times over the years.

Good morning, all. I have been having problems sleeping the past week. Between my back and sinus's being plugged up I am miserable. I am going to the store in a bit and get one of those nasal wash systems. I saw that Target has them in stock so I won't have to wait for a Prime delivery. I also will need to get some more Afrin nasal spray. It is the only thing that has provided me with a bit of relief.
Oh, I did get the Reolink Ourdoor Security Camera. It came in a couple of days ago and I just haven't felt like going outside and putting it up. The squirrels haven't been very active so it hasn't been a priority.
I hope everyone has a safe and fun day.

Sure has been a scary sad year! Unfathomable! Will have to investigate Venmo cause I don't use cash nowadays.

Hoping you get relief from the nasal wash.....have heard a lot of successes about them from friends.

Hola .. :)

Welcome to Ed, feel free to stick around ..

Yesterday, I spent a good amount of time in the yard, although the dry spell we've been in has slowed grass growth down ..

It was a particularly mild day, so, I decided to hit my favorite Mexican eatery for dinner around 4:30 .. I'd driven by a few times around 6:00 and their "limited outdoor seating" was packed, and the inside still can't open .. so, 4:30 seemed a good time, and it was .. I got a small table quickly ..

I'm generally a fan of al fresco dining, but in this case, Mexican food just did not seem to lend itself to the experience .. I ordered a combo plate, which has a little of about everything and it seemed to cool down pretty quick, so I really had to wolf it since Mex is not exactly delicious cold .. it did not help that the wait staff still seemed to be confused on who ordered what and were actually asking people when they brought out the food if they had ordered it ..

We've got a pretty long list of local eateries that have already formally announced they are closed for good .. some I really liked and that always did a great job .. also, a good list of Retailers that have decided to shut down for good and are already clearing out the stock ..

It's sad to me, that the landscape will change once things settle down to whatever 'normalcy' ends up unfolding .. not to mention the financial hit that local municipalities will be facing in the future ..

Businesses, especially Small Businesses, depend on cash flow .. like I always say 'if the cash don't flow, the bills don't go ..'

Speaking of cash, I handed my very attractive (even with mask) Waitress two crisp twenties for a $23.00 food tab .. she paused and looked at it like "What's that stuff .. ?" ..

I put a love sticker because of the last sentence! I'm very sure that the waitress was overjoyed!!:wub:

Hola .. :)

So, Cash is dirty and CC numbers can be stolen and attempted to be used .. what's a guy to do .. ?? :(

Cash will always be in circulation, regardless if Uncle Sam would like it to go away .. there are a number of reasons for this, one is a good portion of the Populace is without Bank Account .. and get paid in cash money .. another is Cash still talks .. I'd venture to guess your current Contractor on your Project would accept an offer of Green Money for a lessor amount than the Bid made, generally 15-20% less .. maybe not, but the probability is fairly high ..

I could lay out more reasons .. :p .. I'll add, we have, as well as all Countries, an underground economy, which, in fact, grows as more workers unable to get legitimate jobs turn to working off the books .. yes, these "off the books" transactions circumvent the System, yet the recipients still add a good portion of money to the Economy thru spending ..

Unless, in this Country, you are within a higher economic strata than many and can afford to pay in full each cycle, I consider CC's to be Legal Indentured Servitude .. tempting those that are of limited means to "Charge It" and pay near Loan Shark rates .. no different than the old Company Store ways ..

If you are within the higher economic strata, you are then rewarded for using CC's by Points Systems, etc, for purchases and a much lower interest rate than those less fortunate ..

This remains one facet of the Economic Disparity that we have and another piece of the puzzle of the Haves and the Have Nots ..

I haven't used the Neti pot (or similar ones) but our son has and says it works. I used Afrin for the first time about a year ago and it worked like a miracle! I'm so, so grateful not to have allergies.

Never heard of the Reolink Security Camera, but Kate and Brian have an Arlo and it caught some guy snooping around their front porch at 4:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. And they've got a lamppost outside so their porch is lit up like daylight. Pretty brazen that he didn't care if he was seen!

I use saline rinse, azelastine and fluticazone for my nose. I have to be aggressive because congestion causes conductive hearing loss, which is generally reversible. My left ear always has some, and my dentist yesterday recommended that all three of my upper teeth should be removed. Under my gold crown in the far back is a tooth root that goes into a sinus. We are interested in finding out whether that is contributing to my loss.

For those not on Facebook, Tippy had his fifth birthday and we celebrated nine months together. He had a good celebration. The haircut was yesterday, photos later.

I thought the same thing from Willie's post…how generous. Gary and I always give 30-35% of the tab for excellent service and we have been helping our favorite server in our favorite restaurant even more since this pandemic started. Because servers have it really rough right now. They don’t get much to begin with and depend on the whims of the customers.

We too don’t use CCs at restaurants for the same reasons as you.
