I now have a huge mound of dirt and tree wood chips due to the stump grinding

FWIW: My tree guy, after grinding a couple big stumps, said don't just let the mix of chips and dirt settle, then rake flat and spread grass seed. The grass won't grow back in that mixture. He said you have to take the area down a few inches and backfill with just soil, then reseed.

and don’t forget to heap the soil a little higher than the surface because over time it will compress some. If you don’t you may end up with a depression…as we did

Did they have a giant chipper to turn the limbs into chips. A woodlot down the street from us was recently cleared. The used a really-really high crane to yank the trees out of the ground then put the entire tree into a massive chipper. I was amazed at the power of that chipper to take in trees almost as large as the one in you picture.

Good morning. It's a lovely morning and the starlings are making short work of the suet. Squirrels have figured out how to get to it, but the plastic bottles and smaller mesh has slowed them down quite a bit.

Next Friday we're going to go to the Wells Fargo Center in Phila with our daughter and family to see life-size dinosaurs arranged in the parking lot. It's a drive-thru Jurassic Park and looks pretty cool. Can't wait to see the reaction of our grandsons!

Iniko, the little California condor chick we have watched since he hatched and whose nest tree is in the area burned by the Dolan fire is alive and well! am sooo relieved at such great news!

Wow. Amazing that that chick survived! What about the parents? Those redwoods are amazing and I can't imagine being a firefighter trying to control any of those fires.

It's fascinating to watch those tree guys work! Did you ever see the big tree diggers that pop a perfectly healthy tree out of the ground to plant elsewhere? When we had every other pine tree taken out the neighborhood came to watch. They removed each tree and put a plug in the hole so it was hard to tell there was ever a tree there.

Had one like that removed just last year. Raked the big chunks out and just drove back and forth over it with the riding mower. Flattened down nice over the winter and springtime rain. Almost totally covered with clover now.

    Hola .. :)

No chipper / large dump trailer .. the kid that owns the Company I hired is only 30 and quite the hustler .. (in a good way) .. hard working crew and he wields the chainsaw, mostly .. good wood they take such as my tree ends up being split and dried for sale as firewood in the Winter when his work gets slow ..

This is the type of equipment the tree company brought in to remove every other pine tree around the front of our property. The tree's in the video are about the size that was removed. Before bringing in the spade, one of the crewe worked his way up the tree tying up all the limbs. Then the spade went to work. After removing the trees, they brought back 'plugs' the exact same size of the hole left behind when the tree was removed. Popped that plug into the ground and you never new a 20 foot tree was there before.

They loaded about 12 or 14 of the trees on a flat bed truck. They were destined to a new 'estate' being built in Connecticut and the owner wanted it landscaped with mature trees.

For me it was a win ... the tree company removed over a dozen trees, backfilled the holes, and gave me a check for $1500. And all I had to do was stand around and watch. :thumb:

And I though I was going to have a massive job removing the trees myself or an expensive job bringing in a service to cut them down. I was lucky to see this crew working in a field removing trees. So I stopped and went to them and asked if they wanted more. Obviously the answer was yes.

Good morning Fran and Rose. It's 55 refreshing degrees out on the deck this morning. Only 17 days til Autumn begins so I have to start thinking about where in the world I'm going to put all the deck plants when I have to move them inside. My large Croton has a mess of mealy bugs on it so that one is definitely not coming in. Alcohol stops them for a minute, but they always find their way back. How did they find my plant to begin with?

I have about given up on flowers here because my family (I live with) hates bugs and freaks out. Since flowers attract them, it is hardly worth hearing them complain.

I did buy 8 bags of soil yesterday to repot so guess I will continue, at least with the bulb plants.

You and Fran are having cold weather. Fall is in the air here but it is still hot in the daytime, cooler at night. I hate to see summer go.

I’m sorry you can’t have the flowers you would love to have.Seems there’s always some problem living with others.

I’m not looking forward to winter at all.
