Meet Me in St Louie Louie
Hola .. :)

Well, my 10 year old plasma flat screen went out Sunday .. there is no real point in fixing it since parts are pretty much non-existent, there is a short in the power supply which causes the protection circuit to trip the TV off .. this 65" Panasonic unit gave me great service, although, as plasma TV's tend to do, brightness degraded over the years so I would have to notch that up periodically .. otherwise, it still put out a picture as good as anything more modern ..

As I disconnected it and called a buddy to help me haul it out to the garage for later disposal, I was somewhat sad, having become a bit attached to this appliance .. o_O

Oddly, I had been contemplating a new 75" TV now for a few months and had figured I'd wait for Prime Days (which is late this year) and / or Black Friday / Cyber Monday ..

I hauled a 40" LED set I had in the guest bedroom out and am limping along with that .. I'll still probably wait for the sale days ..

I'd paid quite a bit for the old girl, $2600 if I recall .. and, it weighed in at about 160 LBS .. now, I nose around the Web and find 70-75" TV's that come in around 60-70 LBS and cost $700 bucks .. consumer electronics have become more and more disposable over the years ..

There should be a local electronic recycle drop off coming up, so I'll get it in the truck then and drop it off to be ground up into bits and sent back to China to be turned into something else ..

Otherwise, weather still fairly mild, a couple days where night temps dropped into the mid 40o's .. days still hanging around 75-80o .. and dry as all get out .. my yard is screaming for rain .. nothing to speak of since around mid-August ..

They just don't make them like they used to, do they? It's been cold here but it seems we're going back in the 70's for a few days anyway. Nights in the 40's and 50's are better than 30's. Just a short respite. Winter is close.

The Z coils last a long time and the Solo's are tough.

The Swag is a nice little unit, and a good deal at $15. I'd skip the dual battery ones, and as a tootler, you might, too. Extra weight, no gain unless you're high power. They're about the size of a Pico 75, good shirt pocket carry. (And if you do that and need an adapter to use Ego threaded toppers, give a holler, I have several :) )

Sheesh .. the times we live in ::

    Pandemic still out there
    Supreme Court Vacancy
Government runs out of money in a bit over a week
    Election going on

I'd figure the whole stimulus bit will be taking a back seat, maybe the third row .. sadly, I don't know if folks really realize just yet that the last big stimulus has been what has kept things from a crash and burn scenario ..

These lawmakers want to get out on the campaign trail as well .. so who knows what the priority is .. if I were to venture a guess, the SCOTUS issue is going to take the priority ..

In a perfect World, this would not be so .. the Court has functioned with less than a full quorum in the past .. however, the confluence of the Election and the vacancy will and seem to be, igniting an urgency that is rarely seen within the Halls of Governance ..

IMO, the Pandemic and the Economy should be our #1 priority .. but, what do I know ..

As an addendum to the above Post .. I think a case could be made on how confident the Powers That Be feel about the strength of their chosen Leader's ability to pull off a second term .. as it relates to the SCOTUS vacancy .. it seems to me, confidence must be fairly low ..

Good evening! It was a perfect day to harvest peppers and tomatoes from the garden. I got all the peppers prepped and in the freezer, tomorrow I'll work on the tomatoes.

In the "so you think you're having a bad day" dept. My neighbor, Ruth, who is my age, went to the ER to get some IV meds to bring her BP down. That took a few hours so it was dark when she and her husband left. Only 2 handicapped parking spots at the ER so they had to climb some stairs to the next level to get their car. The lights were behind them so they had to walk in their shadow up steps without any handrail. Her husband is missing toes so he's unsteady on his feet and he totally missed the last step. As he fell she tried to pull him back and fell backwards herself onto the concrete steps. The ER staff brought out a wheelchair and told her if she couldn't get in it they'd have to call 911 and have a crew come out to put her on a gurney to take her the 20 feet into the ER. She managed to get in the wheelchair and waited in it till they took her for X-rays. Turns out she broke the top of her femur and her right shoulder. Took her for surgery to put a rod in the femur. Afterward she became totally incoherent, MRIs couldn't find out why. Her Hbg is way low and they can't find out where she's bleeding from. Good grief. This morning she's coherent at least. What a mess. I'm so glad to be home and safe and relaxing while watching TV.

Yeah, seems like a good price, but you don't really know what you're getting and do you really want to have to fiddle with them? I've never heard of some of them, but maybe others have and could help you when you have questions?

Sorry to hear about your tv. I remember when I worked in purchasing for our school district there was a small relatively new copier that broke. I called to find out about having it fixed and was told they don't fix them anymore, they're considered disposable. The more expensive ones could be fixed, but for the cost it's cheaper to buy a new one - or two. Doesn't that make them disposable too? I'm probably showing my age, but I'm from the use it til you can't fix it anymore generation. Just feels wrong somehow to have to trash an expensive piece of electronics, but that's the way of things these days.

Surely you understand buying the tried and true. A random bunch of odd pv’s doesn’t cut it.I would highly recommend getting at least one more solo with two being better along with several boxes of coils.
