Hola .. :)

When I get my 6 month checkup, I always spend the better part of a day at the VA .. if you wait around, they will run the blood tests and make them available to the DR ASAP ..

Well, the 6 month checkup went fine, I guess I'll be around for another 6 months .. potassium level was a bit high, but the rookie that drew my blood had a hard time hitting the vein, which can cause a false high potassium ..

Said good bye to my DR of 20 years .. he told me he'd just had enough and was going to teach a few classes at Wash U, we talked for about an hour .. he's my age, and he's on Social Security already and now he'll get his pension .. I'll miss him .. his long time nurse will be gone in 6 months ..

I pulled up to the VA this AM and it was downright disconcerting .. they had concrete barricades up in order to divert traffic flow thru a maze to a central drive thru, where a series of questions was asked and you were issued a wrist band to prove you'd gone thru it as well as a fresh mask .. free Covid nasal swab tests on the spot, I passed on that ..

Several Regular Army, not National Guard, were around the entrance area, they were armed, as well, a Humvee with a mounted 50 caliber was visible .. I don't know what they were expecting, but they were certainly prepared .. kind of looked like the movie set of a disaster film ..

Entering the hospital, I was wanded, I should have left that Swiss Army Knife in the truck .. o_O
We don't even have that level of protection at Tinker AFB. The only thing they have done is set up the pharmacy driveway as the only way to drop off or pick up prescriptions. I just read a good book on my tablet and the time goes quicker. I can also vape at my pleasure since I'm in the Jeep.

Being the conspiracy theorist that I am, it did bring thoughts of "Are they expecting Covid panic and a run on hospitals .. ?? .. "
It is good to hear that you were able to get in and you also received a clean bill of health. I'm still scratching my head on the level of security. I had at first thought they may have gotten a creditable threat alert until you mentioned that they had the appearance of having been set-up for a while.
On one trip to the county courthouse to pay taxes, I had to take a multi-tool back to the Jeep that I had forgotten was in my backpack.

Hola .. :)

That is, again, so weird .. I got my flu shot yesterday as well .. o_O .. along with a tetanus shot that I was apparently due for .. and my regular Cologuard kit ..

Rainy still, it's definitely making up for the dry as a bone last couple of months .. supposed to end soon and then it's clear sailing for a while ..

Don't expect much of anything in the way of Trick or Treaters this year .. my area was never really a hotbed of activity anyway, and now, with all things considered, I may have to eat those Reese's Cups and Snickers all by myself .. .. looks like a perfect day for an Election, though ..

I get the flu shot every year. My Dr keeps track of all shots and tests. Eating the leftover candy is why I only get candies that I like. I know it is supposed to be the other way around but it is my life. ;)
The sun has come out and the day looks to be improving nicely so I think I will go out and see about cutting up some limbs.

The entrance maze and checkpoint had clearly been there for a while .. I can't speak for the troops on duty and this campus is a stand-a-lone facility, not within a Military base .. I'd guess most bases these days have their own set of entry protocol ..

We're supposed to be going down to 28 degrees here tomorrow night and I'm still trying to make up my mind about bringing in the plectranthus. It made it through last winter inside so I'm not sure trying to push it through another year is going to work. It's beautiful.

Cuttings root so easily, but this one already has 2 years growth on it so it's already big so I'd like to keep it going, but the problem is where to put it. It needs some sun. It has dark green fuzzy leaves that are dark red underneath and tons of pretty little lavender flowers all over - that drop constantly. It's a mess inside. Maybe we need to close in the deck...

Lots easier than closing in the deck... ;) )

Morning, all :)

Very funny! But then we'd also need a new shed to store them! You'd think that a 3 car garage, a full basement, the original 2 car garage turned into a "shop" and 3 attics would be enough storage space...

Good morning David and Kay.

It's still raining here. The grass is so thick Mike is going to have to use a scythe before he can mow. Our high today will only be 47 and it's going to 28 tonight. Yesterday was the first time I had to wear socks and winter boots! Guess our Indian Summer is over.

Hola .. :)

Well, the rain has officially moved on and this morning is a very bright and sunny day, although still a bit chilly .. after almost a week of gloomy / cloudy, my eyes had gotten so to used to it that the actual sun took a little adjusting to ..

Janet, I love that plant .. where did you get it .. ??

Speaking of chili .. yesterday morning, I put big pot on and set the stove on low so it could cook all day .. the only bummer was, my favorite beans come from Aldi and they have been out of them for a week .. I finally threw the towel in and bought some Bush Pinto Beans, mild heat, and they were just not the same ..

Yes, I admit to being a beans in the chili person ..

I think I got it at our local nursery as a small plant. It's called Placanthus Mona Lavender and I just now found it at White Flower Farms. They want $29 for it! I have no idea why it would be so expensive. It grows fast, doesn't need a large pot and is super easy to propagate. You'd think greenhouses would be inundated with them. Maybe because it's a new plant most people haven't seen before? It takes bright light or dappled sun. Direct sun too long will burn the leaves. It doesn't like to dry out, but it'll let you know if it needs a drink because it'll start to look a bit droopy. The stems are a bit brittle, but that's not a problem if any break off because it will just get bushier very quickly. You can cut off a 6" piece and stick it in water and it'll sprout roots for you.

In the right light the flowers almost seem to glow. It's just beautiful.

I just made chili without beans and it just wasn't the same.

Just looked the up info about the "Plectranthus", this might be helpful . . .

FYI: Plectrums species are not frost-tolerant, but the perennial species will come back after each winter in locations that receive cold winters.

.

There's several different kinds, but only the mona lavender has the green/purple leaves and lavender flowers.

PSA For Today ..

Walmart has decided to "reinvent" Black Friday (their words, not mine) .. so, they are dividing it up ... a particularly tasty deal that comes up on Wednesday of next week is this 4K ROKU 65" TV for $228.00 .. I'm going to try and buy one just because it's so cheap and put it in one of my spare bedrooms ..

The TV is actually made by Hisense, which is the fastest growing brand in N. America these days .. and, with the Walmart liberal return policy, if it does not meet your expectations, you can always take it back ..
