It's overcast here and looks like it's going to rain any minute.

Heck, it was that way here all day yesterday, and that any minute never came! Latest claim is that we'll have some sun breaks today. Heading into a stretch of low 70s and, gasp, scattered clouds!

I don't know how it is anywhere else, but around these parts, the 'minimum' wage has gradually creeped up to about $14.00 an hour, with some outfits offering a sign on bonus of $500 if you work at least 3 months ..

And yet, places still go begging .. I don't understand it .. yeah, I get the 'expanded Pandemic unemployment money' bit, but still, that's not going to last forever ..

You see these unemployment stats on the News, so, obviously, there are unemployed people out there .. it seems they would rather not work ..

What happened to pride in a paycheck and providing for yourself .. ?? I mean, I would tend to think $14.00 an hour is a living wage in most areas .. ?? No, you're not rolling in the dough, but still ..

The mortgage and rental moratorium clampdown must also play some part in peoples thinking .. if you're collecting a nice unemployment check or two, in the case of a couple, and you don't have to pay your mortgage or your rent .. I suppose there is not much incentive to go back to work if you don't have to ..

And when those rent and mortgage moratoriums end, don't folks still owe the back money .. ?? Or is Uncle Sam going to step up and stimulate that as well .. ?? If so, I suppose I should have taken out a loan on my paid off home so I would not have to pay it and would get the money for free .. o_O

Hi All,

Weather has been unseasonably cool here the last few days and thankfully so...last Thursday our a/c went out and we thought, oh well, time for the new one, but fortunately, it was a simple blown fuse that had gone bad........Peter did check the fuse box before we had the tech come and check things out but evidently, it had gone bad.

We have a 4 ton Maytag that was put in here in 03, and is still going, but it is starting to show its age, so..........

The filters are replaced once a year by the company......unusual size, and we clean the drain every other month with vinegar, one month, and bleach the next. Evidently, it's working!

That's my only news, except of course, my garden which is coming along nicely, although much abbreviated this year.

Good morning. It's a chilly 45 out there and only going up to 63, but the sun is shining and the skies are clear so that's a good thing.

This week I'll be busy getting ready to be away for almost a month. The first 9 days Mike will be here all by his lonesome so today I'll be making a batch of meatballs and whatever to put in the freezer for him and making more suet and nectar for the birds. It's a lot of work to get ready to go away to relax!

Good morning..
The sun's shining brightly this morning and the birds are feasting..

I finally found someone to mow my lawn ( before the neighbors complain to management)..he's supposed to be here today. The wild turkeys are running around everywhere!
My mobile home is located at the back of the community on a cul-de-sac, and with acres of woods directly behind me, so I get to see all kinds of critters!

Hope everyone has a good day!

Morning, all. 40 atm, heading to 70. Yeah, cloud cover is gone. No rain in the forecast for at least a week.

Hope you clearly labeled them, so he doesn't get confused!

Hola .. :)

It had been at least a week and a half since I mowed, and the yard was looking pretty shaggy .. so, I got up, had my coffee and my vape and hit it .. discovered that some critter, probably a ground hog, had burrowed under my shed .. I had a bag of concrete laying around, so I broke out the wheelbarrow, mixed up the concrete and poured it into the hole ..

Although I'm sure it will dig it's way out, the catch and release trap is waiting for that eventuality ..

Good morning all. I hope everyone is doing alright so far this morning. I have already been up a couple of hours and still waiting on my coffee to kick in. I've been doing well just busy doing some minor woodworking. I'm also getting things ready for a camping get-together in a couple of weeks out at the farm. I'm looking forward to it. So far I have replaced the line on three of my fishing reels and have my tackle boxes.

I mowed the front and side yards but we have had rain and the inside yard is too wet to mow. Nothing much else has happened. I live such an exciting life. I hope everyone has a good day. Stay safe and well.

Good morning. It's a chilly 43 this morning going up to 66, but no rain in the forecast for the next 4 days at least.

I made 3 double batches of suet yesterday with 2 more set up to make. There's probably more suet here than our local bird store! I've been bringing in the seed and suet feeders in each night before bed, but I can't expect our cat sitter to stop in to do that. I'm hoping that old raccoon doesn't stop by while we're gone and realize the snack bar is open again.

While the bird supplies are getting replenished I'll have to make some more juice today. Can't have us running out while we're away.

I'm trying to shake off a cold that's got me all clogged up. Mike gave it to me. Not nice. But, it's better to have it now so it's all cleared up before going away.

We're keeping a list of the funny words the boys are saying as they learn to talk. Yesterday our daughter added to the "Braddish" list we have for Braddock: Baby Soup means bathing suit. He's too funny.

Nothing amazing really about making suet. Bea gave me the recipe. I mix the flour, oatmeal and corn meal in a big bowl while I melt lard and peanut butter on the stove. Mix them together and you've got suet! I line an 8x13 pan with wax paper and pour the suet in. Refrigerate. After a few hours, or the next morning, I lift out the suet and cut it into 12 sections and store it in a plastic bag in the fridge. The original recipe called for Crisco and the birds seemed to like that, but I figured I'd try lard and they seem to like it better. Both work though. You can mix in seeds if you want, but it doesn't seem to be necessary. If you're interested in making some I'll give you the recipe.

Since I started putting this suet out I now have blue birds at the feeder and that's something I was hoping for. They're so pretty, but when the starlings show up they chase them away.

We had a flock of wild turkeys in our back yard once a long time ago, but haven't seen them since. We love spotting the wild critters.

Morning all!

I finally had a decent night's sleep, was on a path to be in to work early, but the low tire pressure light came on when I started up the car. Sigh. I thought they were a little low as the road feel was different, but it's going in for an oil change and inspection on Friday so I planned to have them checked/reset then. Missed it by 48 hours. Fortunately, there's a gas station with an air pump on the way in and I had just enough quarters in my purse to take care of it. Phew!

It should be a beautiful day here. Our Wed. management meeting will be held on the deck off the back of the building at 12:30. There's a picnic table with an umbrella so sunny seating for folks like me that like it and shade for the others. We're reviewing that needs to be done to open the outdoor pool Memorial Day weekend. Tomorrow will be a day of outdoor labor (painting, power washing etc) which beats working in my windowless office on a sunny 70 degree day.

There seems to be more wild turkeys around here lately too. I've dodged a couple walking across the road on my drive to and from work and seen them in the woods as well.

@Janet H - get well & enjoy your travels!

I started this earlier but was interrupted a few times. It's back to work.. Best to everyone!

Hola .. :)

And this is where we have (d)evolved to .. paying for air .. I suppose it's likely a profit center when you figure all the places in the USA that have one of those machines ..

I know my mind lives too much in the past .. when I got out of the Military, I worked at a Station for a time .. pumped the gas, cleaned the windshield, and upon the Motorists request, checked the oil and the tire pressure ..

Love feeding the critters........the deer eat cracked corn, but since it's gone up in price, the next best thing is deer corn.
Cracked corn is up to $15@50 lb at the feed store., whereas dear corn is $8@40 lbs at Tractor Supply.

Got really hot here all at once, so it seems, and stopped at Lowe's after bowling this morning, and wow-ee it was brutal. Of course, I had jeans on, so that didn't help matters......came home quick and changed into shorts but it is still too hot to go outside.....later on, I'll get some more clean up done outside when it cools off......breeze usually helps with that.

Hope you're all doing well!
