I'll give them tomorrow to do something...;) Temps for the next 2 days aren't bad...62 and 66, but...
Sunday night it drops and if it's not taken care of by bright and early Monday morning....I'll be raising Hades...
The maintenance guy came over and fiddled around with mine. We decided to set it at 55 and watch an independent thermometer. Holding steady at 71. I'll give you some of mine!! He is calling in a qualified electrician.

Thank you for the offer, I wish it were that easy...:) The little device I keep on my desk that measures both temperature and humidity was how I first knew the heat wasn't coming on...;) It was 10 degrees below what the thermostat is set for, yet none of the radiators were showing any sign of warmth....cold to the touch.

When my DR kept harping on me to lose weight (I was 6' and 223 LBS which I did not think was bad at my age, but the metabolism had slowed and the A1C had gone up ..) .. I tried that "Whole Wheat Pasta (also being a Pasta Lover) .. Blechhhhh .. I'd rather do without than eat that cardboard .. (not that I do without, I just eat in moderation these days .. I loves me some good al dente pasta .. :) ) ..

I just don't eat the Mt Everest size portions I used to .. Mike mentioned that Janet likes the Olive Garden, well, you can add me to that list as well ..

Fries .. ?? fa ged about it .. ;) .. thin cut only, please .. none of those "Ranch Fries" .. ;)
I agree with you…we tried whole grain and wheart pasta and hated it.

Like Olive Garden too! But my two favorite restaurants are Sweet Tomatoes and Metro Diner.

Red, my departed avi cat, used to wake me around 4:30 every morning, standing on my chest and meowing to go out. While I was working, that was ok, since I got up around then anyway. But he never could figure out that weekends didn't count. Kept trying to convince him that if the coffee didn't start (always prepped the night before workdays, so it was ready when I got up!) I didn't have to get up early, so maybe it was just that he wanted his morning brew.... although more likely he wanted out for his morning mouse.

Have you tried just banging on the pipes? ;)
The radiators, and any pipes, are enclosed in a vented metal cover that doesn't appear to be removable...;)

I'm happy to say there was a knock on the door about 8:30 last night...maintenance guy replaced the batteries in the thermostat, and set the temp for 69...:) I have heat! He told me that he would leave the lock box off if he had the choice as I've been here for so long, but he would get in trouble if he did. Said people in other apartments have caused it by pushing the thermostat to 75 and higher. He wasn't supposed to push the thermostat up another degree for me either, which I didn't ask him to do...;) but...I've been a good tenant, unlike the problems they've had with the other two apartments, and I don't think they want to lose me...:)

We pay for our own heat, electric baseboard. They pay for water, and I think there is a building water-heater.

I think my thermostat is either off or 72 deg. Overnight I left it at 50, and it is still 71 deg. I just set it at 72, and will find out what it does with that.

Ouch! Electric baseboard is nice clean heat, but so expensive!! I'm thankful that my heat and water are paid for by them. A few months ago the water heater died and when they came out to look at it I told them that whenever the people upstairs took a long shower I was left with no hot water. The result was the installation of a much larger unit with a quick reheat...:)

My apartment isn't fancy....the arrangement of the rooms is a little odd, but it suits me...;) It's in a safe area, it's mine to putz around in however I desire, and I love it. :)

Those of us who qualify get energy assistance, so the expense of electric is not that bad. And the apartments are well-insulated. I don't understand why so many have air-conditioners, I have been comfortable without for two summers. My experiment with turning up the thermostat quickly resulted in turning it down to 50.

I love their lasagna. And their portions aren't so big that I feel stuffed afterward. We have one pretty close to us so it's convenient too. This past year we discovered that their salad dressing is available in stores.

Excellent tip....if there weren't a lock box on it preventing me any access...;) When it was installed, I was told that by law, they don't have to set it for any higher than 65....I talked him into 68. What's quite interesting is that I received a letter from the Borough that they will be doing an inspection next month and there was a form I was required to answer, fill out, and mail back. One of the questions..."does the heater maintain heat (minimum 70 degrees) ?...

Glad to hear your thermostat got fixed! We've got some cold nights ahead! Tues and Wed it's supposed to be in the 30s. As long as the thermostat is working you might be able to get your heat to kick in if you put a cool wet rag over it to make it think it's cooler inside.

@oldbroad Kay if you ordered another SS1 see if you can send it back they just came out with the SS2. $30 more but might be worth the upgrade. I don't go there enough and didn't see this one coming. My 1 is still working well but I'm still going to think about it they only have 275 available on first order but I think I'll wait until they get the bugs worked out. Comes with lighted voice control air mouse. I thought of you as soon as I read this might be worth it since you are getting a spare any hoos.

And Lunch with Never Ending Salad / Soup / Breadsticks is always a good deal .. they make a great salad and the Chicken & Gnocchi soup is wonderful .. :) .. add to that a pretty good wine selection .. :)

While I won't say it's my favorite place, I will say that, like others have mentioned previously, I mostly lean toward locally owned and run eateries .. as a Chain, though, it's great .. :)

Even in the coldest of winter…well ok…when it's down in the 50s I wear flip flops. But this morning I needed pants and long sleeves
Did you notice our newest tropical depression, soon to be tropical storm and possibly our next hurricane? Oh boy, I can hardly wait.

So, as the resident Flip Flop Folks :: A question that has vexed me for many, many years, that perhaps you can help explain ::

"I blew out my flip flop,
Stepped on a pop top; "

How, exactly, do you blow out a Flip Flop .. ?? o_O

Remember the cheap ones that had the little nub on the thing that went between your toes to hold it to the bottom. They were all rubber, no higher quality materials involved. Catch the front edge on the curb or such and wala, blown flip flop.
