It was a beautiful day for a late afternoon stroll around the yard. That and we were checking the tree tops for hawk nests. We've frequently spotted a Red Tail Hawk scoping our property for prey, even sitting on our back porch railing. While out today 2 of them were riding the wind circling over head. A couple times they folded their wings in and we thought they were going to dive and 'go for something', but nope must just be part of catching the right currents.

I planted these trees when they were only a little taller than Janet.

And all these trees too, I planted years ago. I'm proud of my small piece of this earth.

Beautiful!! Thank you for sharing the pics...:)

I tried to get pictures of the two hawks, but I only had my little camera and they were just black specks. Oh to have had my 300mm zoom handy. Quite a treat to see 2 of them circling over head. They were low enough we could watch them twitching their tail like a rudder to ride the wind with their wings stretched fully and the beautiful colors of their feathers against a really nice blue sky.

Have you ever hiked up Hawk Mountain? My daughter loves hawks and they've hiked there several times...

Although she was in search of hawks, she took this pic of a stone heart she spied on one of their hikes there....:)

Yes, I have ... twice. Once just a day hike out to the Pinnacle ... what a view. And another time a weekend outing along the Appalachian Trail, did the Pinnacle again too. A section of the trail in that area is really along a ridge line maybe 10-20 yards wide dropping off both sides to valley below. We'd do the trail in the fall, trying to time it when the Hawks are most abundant. You could just look left and right and usually catch a bird or two 'kettling'.

A couple google images from the Pinnacle.

Nice! It's amazing how crowed the prime lookouts can be on a nice weekend. You don't see that many people on the walk/climb to the Pinnacle but when you get there it's can be quite crowded ... folks all over the place.

Beautiful pictures, Mike! And you should be very proud of the part you've played.

Thank you ... it was just a barren 3 acres when we move in 30 some years ago ... a bunch of sweat and toil back then has really paid off in the here and now. It's like I've got my own private park. Al Gore can have his mansion ... I've got my back yard.

Good grief!! Are they ever going to get done tearing up the street outside my front door?!! Penn Avenue is a state highway and there is a lot of traffic, so....they work at night...:( First they spent weeks tearing up the street to install new water mains....paved it over....came back and tore up a section outside my front door....for what reason, I have no idea. Patched that up and....started all over again to install new gas lines...Okay....done now? o_ONope.... tore out my sidewalk next....only took 3 months to get that replaced. Last night they started in again....big, heavy. noisy equipment, vibrating the building....tearing up the street once more.... I'd like to think it was for a good reason, like maybe putting the power lines underground?...... All of this nonsense was supposed to be completed....a year ago...

Hey, we've got a street they've torn up and repaved three times in three years - but always keeping two lanes open. Still, you've got to thread your way through a forest of traffic cones to get anywhere. Sometimes they pull the cones in the evening and scatter them around next day. In fact, it sometimes seems as though all they accomplish is placing and removing traffic cones.

An occasional rant is refreshing!
