Mom used to put Tincture of Benzoin on her fever blisters. I remember her telling me it would dry them right up. So I got to thinking.

Hmmmm Maybe that would be good on my poison oak.

Well, the good news is yes it has practically stopped my itching. The bad news is that it is an adhesive. I know this to be true after playing Suduko on the toilet and having to peel myself off. The 91% rubbing alcohol removed it from the seat but not me. After Googling, being used in surgical procedures to hold on bandages would have been a handy little piece of information.

Well, at least I am not itching and I am optimistic that the cornstarch is going to make it possible for me to rotate in my slumber.

Just another example of what it is like to be me.

Well worth it though, I'm not itching. heehee

Happy SATURDAY everyone!

Retirement is no fun when you can't leave the house without an oxygen tank. I'm climbing the walls.

I am using the oxygen less and less. But, I still can't go anywhere without it. I'm hoping that in the next few weeks I can more or less get off of it.

But, I've most definitely learned not to push it. That's what got me back on oxygen in the first place. I can't tell if I'm pushing too hard until it's too late and the damage is done.

I want to join the senior center and do old people's exercises there. I want to take a walk. I want to go to the grocery store by myself.

Morning, misfits, and happy Saturday.

Yesterday's "scattered showers" were scattered between the front and back.... and likely the same today, although it may be side to side this time.

Mom used to put Tincture of Benzoin on her fever blisters. I remember her telling me it would dry them right up. So I got to thinking.

We always used calamine lotion, not super glue :)

Sounds like you're heading in the right direction! As the prayer goes, God grant me patience. NOW!

That's what I am going to use today. But hey, only 1 out of the 3 patches of poison oak is itching this morning. That's pretty good.

Dad fell again during the night. Bless his heart. At least he fell on 1969 thick soft shag carpet and did not get a scratch this time. I cannot believe they still make shag carpets. I have begged him to let me pull it up for many years. It would be a job but it would be beautiful. There are solid oak floors under all these hideous shag carpets.

I have no plans for the day but that is okay with me. Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday.

Beautiful day. I did end up going for a walk. It is 85 but there is a good breeze. Then I pickup up half a burn barrel full of limbs/sticks the storm last night blew down. Doesn't picking up sticks equate to doing vertical sit-ups? heehee Well I did a bunch!

LovesButtercups Wondering how your husband is doing. I hope much, much better. Has he been a good patient? :) (sorry if I missed an update)

Aww, thanks for asking! He is doing pretty well, actually. I guess he’s been in so much pain all this time already that he’s handling it like a champ. He can take 2 pain pills every four hours, but has been getting by with one. I don’t know that I would go as far as to say he’s a good patient, though. He was supposed to keep his arm in a sling for at least three days, but he tossed the sling after the first day. He also removed the dressing from the incision a couple days early. So stubborn! But all is well, or at least it appears that way. He’s still sore but that’s to be expected. His post-surgery follow up is on Thursday, so I imagine they’ll set up more physical therapy and go from there.

My mom has some pretty horrendous carpet. I don’t think it was shag carpet, but it’s lookin’ pretty shaggy these days for sure. Glad your dad was ok after his fall!

My mom took a tumble on Friday. A BIG one. She cleaned out her deep freezer and ended up with a giant bowl of freezer-burned fruit. She took it way down her driveway to toss it down the hill into the weeds/woods, but when she went to toss the contents, she went with it! She fell about four or five feet down, landed on her right hip with her foot twisted up under her. Luckily the ground was soft-ish and she didn’t break anything, but she said it took her over an hour to get back inside, mostly because the hill is really steep and she kept falling/sliding while trying to get back to level ground. She is tougher than I give her credit for, but it still scared me to think she could have laid there for hours with a broken a hip, leg, etc. She refused to go to the doc because she can walk on her ankle, but it’s a hundred different shades of black and blue. I’ve been doing a few things for her but she keeps shooing me off and being hard-headed. Her pride took a hard hit and she was mad that she “lost a perfectly good bowl somewhere in the weeds”, but other than being sore, she seems okay so far.

I hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday, and a great Fathers Day!

I did the grocery shopping for me and mom this morning, and have been working on laundry and a few other chores. Speaking of the grocery store, I grabbed a bag of the Oreo ‘Thins’ cookies on a whim. I tried some a few minutes ago, and THAT WAS A BIG MISTAKE. They are fantastic, and if I’m not careful, I’ll plow through the whole bag in no time. I thought Hubs might enjoy them, but he better move fast or he won’t get a chance!

Will she carry a cell phone? Or maybe get one of those alert necklaces (sounds like she probably wouldn't use that)?

I FINALLY got my mom to carry her cell phone in her pocket, no matter where she thinks she's going. Inside, outside, upstairs, downstairs. She's only fallen a couple of times, but wasn't able to get help either time because she didn't have her phone.

Independence is a hard thing to give up, I think a cell phone is a decent compromise. Sometimes technology is good. :)

Good evening, all. I must admit that I have gotten used to always carrying my cellphone with me. The tumble I took in the driveway a couple of months back opened my eyes to it. The closest family I have is in Houston. Well, I have a daughter about 4 hours away in Miami, OK. However, the last time we talked was 5 or 6 years ago.

Father's Day was a restful day for me. I couldn't sleep last night so I said the heck with it and laid down about 8 this morning and slept until about eleven. Three hours was better than none. I watched a good movie this evening, 47 Ronin. Keanu Reeves was excellent in it. I didn't know he had been in this one. It is a good storyline based on events in the Edo Period. I would wholeheartedly recommend watching it. I'll be keeping it on my DVR for a while.

That's not too bad. I have gone to follow-up visits and removed the stitches before I got there.

I hope all goes well. I am sure PT helps a lot of people. I went 1 time after my Cubital Tunnel Syndrome surgery. A printout of what to do was all I needed. I guess I'm pretty stubborn myself. I talked dad into going to 2 sessions. He said it was a waste of time. They sent home 2 big rubber band things. When he saw they charge his insurance $99 I thought I was going to have to get out his nitroglycerin.

but it still scared me to think she could have laid there for hours with a broken a hip, leg, etc
I know exactly how you feel. Dad would always forget his cell phone when he went outside. He used to carry a bunch on his belt when he was a policeman so I got him a belt holster. Carries it everywhere he goes now and it has come in handy on more than one occasion. Harder for a woman. I don't wear belts so I just stick mine in my bra. You know, next to the $5 dollar bill. heehee

I thought Hubs might enjoy them, but he better move fast or he won’t get a chance!
Cookies? I'm sorry. All bets are off and it is every man/woman for himself/herself. I have even hidden my goodies. I love it when I find them.

Not that it is a contest by any means but. . . I win. It is sad but, sometimes it just is what it is.

I know how you feel there too. There are days that I walk longer than I sleep.

I have never heard of that one. I absolutely love your recommendations. I never agreed that often with Siskel and Ebert but you are pretty darn good.

Morning, all,

Same song here, overcast, cool, random showers. No complaints.

Uh, cheap date? Only a five? ;)
