On hearing ::

Many, many years on the road in loud music venues, well before hearing protection became a thing, combined with my time in the Army and, er, some generally loud noise then, ended up eventually giving me a fairly acute case of tinnitus .. IOW, at all times, other than sleeping, I hear a high frequency noise in my ears .. not much of anything can be done about it, so you just learn to live with it ..

It's around that 14kHz mark, so when I would engineer, I always had to compensate .. oddly, using headphones at a good volume, listening to music at loud volume, etc, makes it temporarily go away ..

Along with hearing loss, this affliction is fairly common within groups of the populace with a similar background ..

Go figure ..

I can't remember the last time I heard the 'sounds of silence'. Maybe there was a time but I can't remember it. Seems I've always had a chirping sound in my ears or crickets. Most of the time is similar to a quiet night listening to all the crickets and katydid sounds in the forest. It's gotten louder the older I get. Sheesh! In the mornings when I wake up it's so loud I feel like I'm in the aviary at the zoo.

It's does quiet a bit as the day moves on. An ENT explained that it's louder when you wake up in the morning because even while your sleeping you brain is trying to interpret the sounds from your ears. And since it's quiet it's kind of like feed back from an amplifier when you first wake up. Then as your brain starts picking up more background sounds as the day gets going the chirping gets masked and kind of subsides.

I used to be able to put on my Bose noise cancelling headphone and listen to music without the chirping. But know I have to turn the sound up so loud to mask it, it's uncomfortable listening.

Such is life.

Hola .. :)

Most probably know of my admiration for Brian Wilson .. yesterday, he turned 80, remains an inspiration and here is a compilation of Birthday wishes .. it's worth a watch just to catch Dylan at the end ..

And Paul McCartney just hit 80 also the other day. I hate it when folks like that get old ... it means I'm old too.

Dang, I thought you had an empty post. The post was just blank, nada, nothing in it. I had to quote it to get the video to show up in the quote section.

And it only showed up while I was typing this post. Once posted, the video disappeared.

Went to the Dollar Store for the first time since they went up on prices. It took every bit of the fun out of going there having to look at what the price was. I understand going up on price to $1.25 but why add all the other higher than Walmart stuff and make me have to look at price tags? Grrrr

Looking on the bright side, it was wonderful to go somewhere all by myself. Have not done that since May 27th. (yes I keep a list and it was the 5th time this year)

Morning, misfits.

Dang, the current guess is for it to be dry all week, and heading to 90! They could have skipped that part... or even stopped at 75. :blink:

Yeah, not to mention Revolution #9 being elevator music. :lol:

Good morning, All.

Last night I was finally dead tired and went to bed at 11:30 and didn't get up until around 8:15. It feels nice being fully rested. Not only that, but I also got a gift package from fasttech. One of these days I'll have to stop in a local store and see what's available. On that note, I was talking with a friend last night and if there was one good thing about Covid it's that I don't go shopping as much as I used to. It seemed like I was going to Wally's, Target, or Sam's two or three times a week. Except for groceries I just get things off Amazon. Saves me on gas and fighting the crowds. Speaking of that, I will need to go to Brahms for some milk. I might do that later today or tomorrow or when the mood hits me.

Hmm, what to watch? I've gotten interested in a new series on FX, The Old Man, starring Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow. It's based on a book of the same name written by Thomas Perry. After watching the 1st episode, I bought the book on Amazon. So far it is an interesting series and book. If I do find a good movie, I'll let you know.

Hola .. :)

Well, you're not quite to the level here in Fly Over Country, but, none the less, welcome to the club .. :eek:

Outdoor potted plants require a daily watering currently .. my deck looks like a jungle .. last year, I had bought about 12 Elephant Ear bulbs from the Amish .. and, at the end of the season, de-potted them and stored as needed over the Winter .. problem is, these things multiply like rabbits .. I now have at least 40 bulbs growing, (not all in separate pots) .. it looks like I live in the Caribbean .. not complaining, but at this rate, I should open an Elephant Ear Business .. o_O

Winning, maybe ..

The Old Man, starring Jeff Bridges

I'm DVRing the series, I'm always in for anything Jeff Bridges .. going back to 'The Last Picture Show'

'Crazy Heart' was great, and his take on 'True Grit' may have been as good as John Wayne .. what else can be said about 'The Big Lebowski' .. ??

Dude ..

Question .. ??

Do those dryer balls really work .. ?? Will they eliminate the need for fabric softener / dryer sheets and the associated chemical load that come with them .. ??

Say, those dryer sheets are good for removing bug splats (particularly in Love Bug country) and tar spots on your car. Just have to be careful as there's been many reports they can also remove the clear coat finish on your paint.

Does make you wonder then, what residue is left on your clothes and is/if it is absorbed through your skin what the effects are.

I have tennis balls, work well. I also have some silicone balls with spikes for my micro-fiber towels/cloths, work well.

It just seems to me, that the use of dryer sheets / fabric softener somehow kills the absorbency of most fabrics .. when I wash dish rags / micro fiber cloths I use at the workshop, towels, etc, they just seem like they have a coating on them .. I don't like it so I'm looking for an alternative ..

Ordered these just now ::
