I agree with Mike about checking the bottom to see if there are any markings. Even so, if you're thinking of keeping it there's tons of info on the net for how to clean them up. Not hard to do. I've got a square, smooth one that I love. I've seasoned it well so I can even make over light eggs in it without breaking the yolk. You've got a great find since it has a lid.

Good news on the home front. Got a call that the part we need for our AC is in! They're coming to install it on Tuesday. Fortunately the weather has been downright chilly. Had a couple pretty warm days last week, but the next 14 days will be mild with a good chance of rain each day.

We're making good progress with getting boxes sorted out and finding places to put everything. We're headed to Home Depot shortly to get a soft close toilet seat. The powder room doesn't have one and I'm tired of being startled whenever it bangs closed. I'm old, it could be dangerous to startle me!!

So, are you going to record the gig and post a bit of it here for our enjoyment? :thumb:

Hola .. :|

As some may or may not remember, during the height of the Pandemic, I made a series of videos in which I tried my best to make a fool of myself as well as add a little levity to that time period ..

Then, in the most recent past, I've posted some home made playing / singing material with no vocal commentary ..

Although over many years, I have made regular trips to the VA Hospital and VA extended care facilities in order to attempt to bring some small degree of cheer to those shut ins that get little to no visitation, they are a very forgiving group in either case ..

Other than that, I had given the music biz a shot when I was a young man, a two year shot, in fact .. until I threw in the towel ..

I stayed in the peripheral from then on, running live sound, owning a studio and doing guitar building, repairs, etc .. still with my foot in some sort of door ..

Then, at my advancing age, I decided to attempt to try playing in public and making a few shekels while doing it .. in many ways, my previous attempts here on the thread helped me take that fork in the road .. the wheel had come full circle ..

Although I'm sure all of you are also a forgiving group when in came to my past shenanigans, I never got a bad reaction that was publicly posted (at least, if I did, I can't remember it) .. so, in that vein, I credit those here for offering me that little extra push

Carpe Diem ..

Since the age of 13, I have always felt a certain catharsis in just letting go and allowing life to take its course ..

To release and let go of emotional baggage is when, I believe, most of us experience a fullness and peace that cannot be replicated ..

I might have to keep the cast iron skillet. I do not have one that has a lid.
See that raised rim around the edge of the lid? That is a type of "Dutch Oven". When cooking over a wood or charcoal fire, you can cover the lid with hot coals to provide an all-around cooking environment to bake things like pan bread or pastry-covered dishes (think Shepherd's Pie) which would ordinarily be difficult over an open fire.

EDIT: And pies with a top crust.

Morning, all.

Summer continues here, probably for at least a week :) Yeah, hoses are ready, again.

Agree, and unless / until we're ready and willing to unpack some of that old "stuff", no room for new :)

When I was an active Boy Scout leader, one of the scouts loved baking on the coals from an open fire in a Dutch Oven. He made some delicious pies for dessert on our camping trips. (Sorry for a large image, I on my tablet and don’t know how to resize it using the tablet)

Hola .. :|

Heat wave is back in force .. I came across this the other day and thought I would share ::

'What does it feel like to be old?
The other day, a young person asked me: - What did it feel like to be old?

I was very surprised by the question, since I did not consider myself old. When he saw my reaction, he was immediately embarrassed, but I explained that it was an interesting question. And after reflection, I concluded that getting old is a gift.

Sometimes I am surprised at the person who lives in my mirror. But I don't worry about those things for long. I wouldn't trade everything I have for a few less gray hairs and a flat stomach. I don't scold myself for not making the bed, or for eating a few extra "little things." I am within my rights to be a little messy, to be extravagant, and to spend hours staring at my flowers.

I have seen some dear friends leave this world, before they had enjoyed the freedom that comes with growing old.
-Who cares if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 in the morning and then sleep until who knows what time?

I will dance with me to the rhythm of the 50's and 60's. And if later I want to cry for some lost love...I will!

I'll walk down the beach in a swimsuit that stretches over my plump body and dive into the waves letting myself go, despite the pitying looks of the bikini-wearers. They'll get old too, if they're lucky...

It is true that through the years my heart has ached for the loss of a loved one, for the pain of a child, or for seeing a pet die. But it is suffering that gives us strength and makes us grow. An unbroken heart is sterile and will never know the happiness of being imperfect.

I am proud to have lived long enough for my hair to turn gray and to retain the smile of my youth, before the deep furrows appeared on my face.

Now, to answer the question honestly, I can say: -I like being old, because old age makes me wiser, freer!-.

I know I'm not going to live forever, but while I'm here, I'm going to live by my own laws, those of my heart.

I'm not going to regret what wasn't, nor worry about what will be.

The time that remains, I will simply love life as I did until today, the rest I leave to God.'

Morning, all.

Still summer here, or finally summer here. For a week, anyway :)

I am within my rights to be a little messy, to be extravagant, and to spend hours staring at my flowers.

And yelling "get off my lawn!" :)

Yeah, hopefully been around long enough to have finally learned what's important, and what's not..

Good morning. It's lovely this morning although pretty humid. Gonna be in the 80s for the next 2 weeks with a good chance of rain each day. This must be what it feels like to live in the UK - always have the umbrella at the ready.

Yesterday I went to our daughter's to go to a minor league baseball game. Tickets were sold as a fund raiser for one of the boy's schools. Mike stayed here to work on unpacking. The rain held off until we got home. Perfect timing. The smaller stadium was really nice - I liked it better than going to the big pro baseball stadiums with thousands of people.

Morning, all.

Guess we're still at the "lucky" end of the country, latest guess has us in the high 70s for the week, but still no rain.

But the fans are on, pulling the inside temp down for the day, and no need for the portable AC. Yet.

Hola .. :|

The Weather prognosticators should be made to pay penance when they end up so woefully wrong .. 'Keep the umbrella handy, since Saturday evening we're gonna have some much needed rain ..'

Not a drop ..

Yesterday hit 101o in the shade by the readout on my weather station .. it was brutal .. tried to do a few things outside, change the water in the Hummingbird feeders, trim a few pesky low tree branches .. weed whack some ..

I just could not take it .. ended up settling in the recliner with a cold one or three ..

They have been forecasting rain for every day here and we’ve gotten hardly any,

Tomorrow between noon and 2pm the techs are supposed to be here to repair the A/C. Hopefully all goes well and tomorrow evening Janet and I get some relief from the humid stuffy house. (And it ain't much better outside).
