Morning, all.

More light rain, and snow higher up. Not said to be a lot, but any little bit will help.

I've had a habit for as long back as I can remember of spinning up some song that I'm particularly fixated on when I get up in the morning and sit in my chair, drinking my coffee .. used to be along with a cigarette, but now with the thing that got us all here ..

The song changes and, in most all cases, reflects my mood, although I will play the same song, sometimes for weeks .. sometimes more than once in one sitting .. then, I'll get out of the chair, gather my self up and head to the workshop, where, er, I still work, doing what I do ..

As the years have passed, it gets tougher and tougher to get that old motivation up, getting reminded in various ways about mortality and the passage of time ..

I'm living more in my head than I should .. but, it's just the way it goes ..

This song is what I'm fixated on these days .. and, as an interesting side note, the old guitar John Prine is playing is the one that he wrote probably 90% of his songs with .. at the end of a show, back in the 'performers area', he'd have that old guitar and if anybody mentioned that they played, he'd hand it to them and they could just play it .. creating a memory that the lucky participant would never forget ..

It was another beautiful day here. Got up to 65 so of course, the bike had to hit the road. My new HD boots and leather jacket felt good coming home. I can't remember (this is happening more frequently), but I bought 2 leather coats at my favorite thrift store. One looks great going out to eat and then the one with zippers, well lets just say I am feeling more biker chickish. That is not the best part. The best part is they are genuine leather and I got them for $14.99 each. You just can't beat that. You would have thought I won the lottery.

In a way I did. I was in the right place at the right time. I love it when that happens.

I have got fifty-eleven things to do tomorrow. We are leaving for Chattanooga on Saturday and going to stay with his daughter 2 nights and then head to Hurricane Mills which is like 70 miles from Nashville. Beautiful country. Sure wish we could take the bike again.

Well the box of Whitmans that Ken gave me lasted 24 hours. It was a big box but only had 14 pieces in it. I can remember when that box was crammed full and they had a card to tell you what flavor each piece was. Now you just have to guess. Just so you know, I did share. But just a little bit.

Have a great Friday!

Well, my day has started wonderfully. I needed my coffee and somehow spilled it before I could take a sip. But looking on the bright side, the day can only go up and the kitchen floor needed the attention.

Trying to find the motivation to go to the gym. I really need to because I am not sure how long I will be gone. There is no gym there. Heck, I have to go 20 miles to get groceries.

There are some fields I can walk but it is not flat land like I prefer. The place where Ken has his fifth wheel, their rock driveway is probably close to half a mile long but has one heck of a hill. I hold my breath when we leave on the motorcycle because it is so steep. Definitely a good workout because of the incline but whew, my knees do not enjoy the stroll.

Hope everyone has a great Friday.

Morning, loungers.

Looks like a (brief) break from the light rain, but temps are staying on the cool side, so mountain snow can stay snow :)

Definitely a good workout because of the incline but whew, my knees do not enjoy the stroll.

Well, if you do the uphill part first....

They can be useful, especially if you're in an area with variable rates. But in that case, a clock can be just as effective. As is just not running high current devices at the same time.

Other tactics can also be helpful. Laundry? Only do full loads, since the motor will be pulling near full load even if only half full. Same for dish washer, motor for pumps and hot water. DO wrap your hot water tank, even if already enclosed.

Not much choice any more, so, yeah, LED lights.

Turn the thermostat down a bit. Even a couple degrees can make a big difference on usage.

The monitors do NOT reduce your consumption, they only let you know what's sucking the KW. How you use that info can be helpful.

Thanks, David. We already do all the other stuff you mentioned but the cold snap recently was brutal for the bill. It has never been this high before.

Don't move to Clarksville, folks. Everything costs a fortune.

They claim it lowers the bill but I know nothing about elec and you do so I will try them to see if there is any difference.

Uh, yeah, well... IF you track usage and adjust. They do NOT automagically reduce consumption.

    Some perhaps helpful reading:

    My approach.

Turn off the juice when not in use has always worked.
    All lighting LED where applicable.
Minimal light (basically Blackout inside) in the evenings aside from outside (also LED) area lighting.

@DavidOck are those elec saving boxes any good? Thought I would try them since our bill was $500 last month.

Yup, my bill at the house combined with the bill at the shop, last cycle, was about $900 .. and I'm just one person ..

If you have not already, you might look at one of those aggregators / bulk buy companies .. I can't think of the actual thing they are called ..

It's like back in the old days when you could shop around for land line telephone deals ..

Ken has been having issues with his chopper and has worked on it several times to no avail. Today a man called from a shop that he was recommended to and we had to take his bike. He was following me down the highway and his motorcycle cut off. I did not know what to do so I turned on the next exit and went back to look for him. He called and said he was at an Exxon so I GPS'd myself to him. While he was waiting for me, he found a stack of scratch-off tickets on a newspaper rack and looked at them. There were two winners. He won $8. That is so weird. You just can't make up my life.

I have a bit of a head cold. I woke up with it this morning and thought it would just go away but it is still here. I can't remember the last time I was sick. Ken said we could wait until Sunday to leave but I'll just wait to see how I feel in the morning.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Miss me a little bit while I'm gone cause I will miss y'all.

    Morning, lizards.

Not much change in the weather here, coolish, light rain, light snow up high.

That may or may not be an option, isn't available everywhere.

Electric utility customers may contact their distribution utility or the utility regulatory commission in their state to see if and to what extent retail choice is an option and if a list of alternate electricity suppliers is available.

May be worth looking into. but if available, DO read the fine print. Surge pricing may be part of the deal, and can get really spendy real fast.

Well, we made it to his daughters and YAY, she has internet. We will be here a couple of days and then go to his place where there is no internet. Thank goodness I have my phone. That is the only way we can watch TV there since he has no service. I taught him how to use Smart View on his TV. He is not very current on technology which neither am I really but I know a little more.

We had Pizza Hut tonight and it was pretty good, I haven't had pizza out in years. Of course, I had to get breadsticks too!

I did get to see snow on the mountaintops. We stopped at a rest stop and there was snow on the ground. Kids were playing in it and it was all I could do not to join them.
